Cloud is sadly underwhelming in this game ... until you spend a few hours stat grinding via Degenerator traps and the Bard and Mime jobs. Then again, you could do that with anyone. Done correctly, he can 999 HP w/o equips, and can use Ribbons and Materia Blade w/o the penalties associated with them (low stat boosts). I'm about to grind Cloud a second time (because I used Geomancer and Ninja the first time) to see where it gets me.
@shemhazai48 well for samurais, yeah making them a black mage with draw out makes em do 300+ with some of the better draw out skills, but the problem with cloud is you need to equip him with his stupid ass sword for him to use his abilities haha
He's just in the game as a novelty, Agrias and Cid and even ramza if you level him/equip him with the right stuff are much better.

The creator had made Tactics Ogre before and built his own FF world for square which would later include vagrant story and final fantasy 12. Cloud is a cameo character in it. Just like Balthier is a cameo character in the psp remake the Lion war and Vaan and Penelo are in Tactics A2.
Finishing Touch and Cherry Blossom are the only Limit Breaks in this game that are awesome-looking. The rest are complete and utter letdowns, especially considering how awesome they looked in FF7.
I wish they would make a new Tactics with ALL the FF Characters and no rule bullshit. And make it were you could walk around towns and stuff. That would be awesome.....

@rockman229 I got rid of my lvl 50 Arithmetician to get Cloud, leveled him up to level 40 in like one hour with no one but him attacking, the rest just Hasting and Tailwinding him... Then I got all his limits
I was so fucking dissapointed...

His attacks can't be used on "Enemy", just on the tile... plus they're freaking long to launch (learning Swiftness, hope it helps).
Most attacks are useless, except Finishing Touch...

@DarchesR Cloud has the same potential for awesome as Cid if he's equipped right... His stats may have been nerfed, but he's still bad-ass. Finishing touch is incredible with it's decent chances to insta KO, Stop or Petrify within a 2 grid radius. Also, Climhazard can instant kill anything below half health, assuming it doesn't have MP shield. Just equip Quickcharge and Brigand's Gloves, or give him samurai sub class and use Masamune. Watch him pull off 999 damage.

@Warkando121 he's an unlockable character if you do an extremely long side quest. He starts out at level 1 so you have to train him all the way up. I don't remember exactly how to get him as I got him probably 8 or 9 years ago lol. check gamefaqs I'm sure there's a FAQ on how to get him.

Except for Ramza, all other characters are susceptible for the very high faith/ very low brave problem since it will cause them to leave the party. You can keep him as long as you like as long as he doesn't experience the things mentioned above.
@bamapagedesign Because it's better to have a team of 5 telporting/ dual wielding/ Knights (or Squire in Ramzas case) with Ramza using Math Skill and everyone else using either magic or Punch Art and having either Dragon Spirit, Hamedo, or HP Restore. And it's even better when you turn Orlandu into a teleporting/ dual wielding/ casting re-raise cuz you actually hit him/ whatever you want his secondary skill to be/ rape beast (because that is the real name of his real Job Class.) lol

Do note that he's included in the game more as an easter egg/gimmick than anything else. While it may make sense that such a cool cameo should be more worth using, methinks Square were more going for the fact that his cameo alone should be enough for you to enjoy, =P

The best way to use Cloud is you have to train him as a knight to get his attack power up. Don't keep him as a Soldier, only do that to learn the skills. All sword skills depend on the AP, just like Agrias. Get his speed up by giving him short charge from the Time Mage job. Give him a Setiemson relic and watch him go!
@izlude2 Better yet, level him up as a Mime, primarily, for most stats to soar, then Ninja for SPD. Mime is the only non-exclusive class that increases MAG, in this game, and SOLDIER does not. All of Cloud's Limit Breaks are based on his MAG (Well, no, not Finishing Touch.), so he can become very worth his place in this game. However, all of the grinding that is necessary to raise his MAG high enough, whether or not once decides to grind further with level-downs, is too ridiculous for most.
@izlude2 The lack of weapon availability also hinders him, since he can only use his Limit Breaks with his Buser Sword... Really, only hardcore Cloud fans will bother to make him the badass that he can be in this game. Most will just stick to his rol in the FF7 series and keep him in their perties in this game for the sake of some cutscenes. xD

In order to get there, you need at least one of the following: a) JMP of 4 or more (Germinas Boots are good.). b) a monster ally that is either a Dragon (Red Dragons are good, though not as good as humans o Hydras.), a Hydra, or a Construct. These monsters can be used as stepping stones with HT 3 higher than the tile that they're standing...

@Alenmurati amazing stuff, too. Still, even though you can always supply Cloud with Buster Words for his Limit Breaks, making him a good character requires so much grinding, you could have others with better abilities have better stats than him in the same time. I honestly recommend getting Cloud and the Buster Sword for the sake of your collection, then abstaining from him like the plague. If you want an infinitely invaluable account of info, look up the FAQ on the PSP version on Gamefaqs.
I found that out earlier. And yes, you need the Materia Blade in order for Limit to work. Swiftness from Time Mage is a good idea too. You might also need to have someone have a jump stat at 4 as well--at least to reach the blade at the volcano, spiky shoes and or germinas (I know it is spelled wrong) boots would work.

I do 400 a hit (Double hit so 800 every times I act) With ramza who I gave double monk fists with black magic as well as dragon spirit *ressurect* and of course the ninja double hit ability, and teleport.

sorry for late answer, i havent checked it earlier. Yeah I think FFT is great. in my opinion, ANY battle manga can suit on this system of FFT. I have loved Megaman series thought it is called "Rockman" in Japanese idk what it means lol And I want FF12 in active turn battle system, if it was like that, FF12 would have been greater game.
yeah, tailwind is a great ability. I used that to fast level the slow arithmitic job. I always have squire ability as 2nd for all my team. Focus gets jp fast and makes the game more of a challenge. its getting hard now that they are all lvl 60's with no 2nd abilities, especialy the 6 chocobo battles! As soon as i get to chapter 4 im gonna play separately with the special characters with cloud replacing ramza. That should be hard and fun.
Go to the mountain battle stage with all the lava. Then go to the highest part of that stage with a character that has treasure hunter ability from chemist job.
Cloud's really pretty useful if you give him Short Charge. Cross Slash comes out quick and does decent damage, Finish Touch is awesome for 90% of the enemies you fight, Meteorain does good damage and is still quick enough with SC to be usable, and Climhazzard is great against any enemy with a lot of hp - and will kill Altima quicker than just about anything else.

To use Cloud's Limits, you need the Materia Blade.
Equip the ability Move-Find Item and the accessory Germinas Boots, then go to Bervenia Volcano. It's hidden at the highest point of the battlefield.

To all of the people slagging off Cloud's usefulness, let me say this -
Do note that he's included in the game more as an easter egg/gimmick than anything else. While it may make sense that such a cool cameo should be more worth using, methinks Square were more going for the fact that his cameo alone should be enough for you to enjoy, =P
... this coming from someone who has had The War of the Lions since before he got his PSP and yet still hasn't gotten round to playing through it yet, ;-;

The best way to use Cloud is you have to train him as a knight to get his attack power up. Don't keep him as a Soldier, only do that to learn the skills. All sword skills depend on the AP, just like Agrias. Get his speed up by giving him short charge from the Time Mage job. Give him a Setiemson relic and watch him go!

@izlude2 Better yet, level him up as a Mime, primarily, for most stats to soar, then Ninja for SPD. Mime is the only non-exclusive class that increases MAG, in this game, and SOLDIER does not. All of Cloud's Limit Breaks are based on his MAG (Well, no, not Finishing Touch.), so he can become very worth his place in this game. However, all of the grinding that is necessary to raise his MAG high enough, whether or not once decides to grind further with level-downs, is too ridiculous for most.

@izlude2 The lack of weapon availability also hinders him, since he can only use his Limit Breaks with his Buser Sword... Really, only hardcore Cloud fans will bother to make him the badass that he can be in this game. Most will just stick to his rol in the FF7 series and keep him in their perties in this game for the sake of some cutscenes. xD

@Alenmurati Firstly, allow me to correct myself: I forgot that Blade Beam is a retaliatory attack; its damage is equal to the damage that Cloud has taken (MAXHP - current HP; damaging him, then healing won't improve this attack.). Also, *parties* (typo).
Now, to answer your question, yeah, it's true, and the Buster Sword isn't even that strong. There are better weapons out there. To get it, there are two methods. Firstly, there's a Treasure Hunt tile on Mount Bervenia. If you place...

@Alenmurati the corner tile that is Height 3 and "Basalt" at the bottom of your screen, the tile with the Buster Sword is left 1 and up 9 tiles from there. In order to get there, you need at least one of the following: a) JMP of 4 or more (Germinas Boots are good.). b) a monster ally that is either a Dragon (Red Dragons are good, though not as good as humans o Hydras.), a Hydra, or a Construct. These monsters can be used as stepping stones with HT 3 higher than the tile that they're standing...

@Alenmurati on. (If a Construct stands on a HT 2 tile that's next to a HT 5 tile, a human ally with 3 JMP or more can jump onto the monster, then onto the HT 5 tile. Aside from Chocobos, monsters can't be ridden, though, so this can only be used for this stepping-stone tech.). c) a Black (Fly) or Red (Ignore Elevation, the equivalent of infinite JMP) Chocobo to ride. @Alenmurati amazing stuff, too. Still, even though you can always supply Cloud with Buster Words for his Limit Breaks, making him a good character requires so much grinding, you could have others with better abilities have better stats than him in the same time. I honestly recommend getting Cloud and the Buster Sword for the sake of your collection, then abstaining from him like the plague. If you want an infinitely invaluable account of info, look up the FAQ on the PSP version on Gamefaqs.

I found that out earlier. And yes, you need the Materia Blade in order for Limit to work. Swiftness from Time Mage is a good idea too. You might also need to have someone have a jump stat at 4 as well--at least to reach the blade at the volcano, spiky shoes and or germinas (I know it is spelled wrong) boots would work.
*shrugs shoulders* At least that is what I think...do you have any more thoughts on the matter?

I do 400 a hit (Double hit so 800 every times I act) With ramza who I gave double monk fists with black magic as well as dragon spirit *ressurect* and of course the ninja double hit ability, and teleport.

You need to have his Materia Blade. You have to find it in a battle map on top of a mountain peak using Move-Find Item from the Chemist job.
Have a character with somewhat low Brave walk along the top of the hill to find it.
And to whoever said it didn't look like his Materia Blade, it is the blade, they just didn't make it look like the picture.

Anyways he is so weak in this game because he seems still sick when he is in it.well in this movie, he seems not to equip materia blade but he can make limit charge, idk maybe this player edited it?
in my opinion, you should not have cloud as knight but as some magical job since limit charge damage is relative from MA.

Whoa really??? Your english is actually very good. FFT is like my favorite game. I really think they should make a spectacular one for the PS3! FFT is my favorite game period. FF7 would be my second and then 8 . I want to try FF13 versus but honestly FFT will always be my favorite. By the way, are you a fan of the Resident Evil series? How about Mega Man x or Rock Man X ???

I have loved Megaman series thought it is called "Rockman" in Japanese idk what it means lol And I want FF12 in active turn battle system, if it was like that, FF12 would have been greater game.

yeah, tailwind is a great ability. I used that to fast level the slow arithmitic job. I always have squire ability as 2nd for all my team. Focus gets jp fast and makes the game more of a challenge. its getting hard now that they are all lvl 60's with no 2nd abilities, especialy the 6 chocobo battles! As soon as i get to chapter 4 im gonna play separately with the special characters with cloud replacing ramza. That should be hard and fun.

Go to the mountain battle stage with all the lava. Then go to the highest part of that stage with a character that has treasure hunter ability from chemist job.

Cloud's really pretty useful if you give him Short Charge. Cross Slash comes out quick and does decent damage, Finish Touch is awesome for 90% of the enemies you fight, Meteorain does good damage and is still quick enough with SC to be usable, and Climhazzard is great against any enemy with a lot of hp - and will kill Altima quicker than just about anything else.
