  • Is it me or is James rushing Sarah along here?? Sarah still as good as ever!

  • you have to listen this at a real concert hall! Sarah is truly amazing!

  • The conductor looks like an older napoleon dynamite

  • Loved it. : ) -Vanessa

  • It's actually possible to play this movement without sounding raucous and ugly - listen to Janine Jansen's rendition.....

  • too fast and too rough...

  • I love the way she plays it. She has her own powerful and unique style :)

  • This whole piece is beautiful. And they execute it so well, even though it is a very difficult piece. I loved the part when Sarah came in around 2:20 into the performance.

  • Is that Perlman conducting? :-)

  • @skifru Levine

  • I feel like Sarah Chang, now much more than when she was a child, has such freedom in her left hand. And I think that's one of the reasons she looks so effortless. Just look at her fingers flying around. No big deal =)

  • bit slower would of been more lovely :)

  • Amazingly beautiful!

  • A lush, voluptuous, performance by Ms Chang. My favorite? Michael Rabin, circa 1954 or so, recorded for the Bell Telephone Hour. Stunning speed, demonic technique, real fireworks, and that is what this is all about. I have played it in the past, never to this standard, but it is a wild ride!!

  • I think it was a bit slower it wouldn't be so messy! (only in some places) just my opinion

  • what an incredibly fast tempo.. I do admire !

  • If any of you haters decided to do a live performance of this with an orchestra behind you and it was recorded, it sure as hell wouldn't be any where near this standard.

    Trust me, I've done it.

  • 43 people = justin bieber fans

  • i don't like her way in expressing the music , the same way in playing every peice , plus she is too rough , check Joshua bell for this concerto

  • is this the boston symphony orchestra?

  • She played so much better when she was 9-10 years old...

  • Interesting contrast between this tonally rich interpretation of the work and the more "skeletal" interpretation of Ida Haendal and the Igor Grupmann orchestra also present on You Tube...They're like chalk and cheese...yet I'd hate to have to chose between them. Thank you for uploading....

  • 3:29, OMG

  • loved it,cant say the same about her dress just doesnt suit her body type

  • She sways around too much. I kinda think that the orchestra has more expression than her. DX

  • chang always the same, doesn't matter what the piece is. very one-dimensional. she's very overrated. there are hundreds of violinists in the world with her skill.

  • @jason101other

After seeing your channel and the comments I now realise that you are one of those modern phenomenon's known as internet ''Troll's '' whose only pleasure is to place stupid and obnoxious comments with the purpose of annoying as many people as possible .

  • mostruosa il. suo suono ti penetra nell'animo

  • just amazing

  • JUST AMAZING!

  • Quelle violence ... Passage en force... j'aime pas !

  • I find the playing of both the soloist and the orchestra to be rather overwrought; Ida Haendel does it much better.

  • 2:00 - 2:07 looks so wrong. 2:06 is like the climax.... lolol..

  • @L1V3L4UGHL0V3r wow lol

  • Thank you for such great music!

  • lol back then Perlman and Levine looked kinda the same. I can see they have taken different paths :)

  • I wonder why this recording is so soft. It usually is supposed to be F or FF. I know this because 1) It's kind of obvious, since the piece is SO energetic and 2) I have the music to this whole concerto. Mabye the recording/cameraman had a bad mike or recording device or he didn't get set up right. Anyways, she is SO good. AND she's Korean, which I am. I've already played the 1st and 2nd movements of the concerto and if I get accepted into some competition, I'll have to play THIS movement, SCARY!

  • I wonder why the recording is so soft. Not her playing. I mean the recording volume. Either the recording person didn't get set up right in the beginning. I know it's not Piano in the beginning because well...1) It's kinda obvious, since it's SUCH an energenic piece and 2) I have the music. I've already played the 1st and 2nd movement and I might have to play this (the last movement) if I get accepted to a competition. SCARY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sarah can sure play the SH!T outta that violin...

  • magnificent

  • nice but bit too rough. plus she is rushing a bit. sarah you need to take time.

  • no joy... and I think she's trying to kill her instrument

  • @DT1593 totally agree. i just don't understand why 99.9% of all asian violinists try to kill their instrument. loud sound is not superior to soft sounds

  • glorious.

when i listen to sarah chang it makes me want to throw my violin into the fire.

  • I have to say this is my favorite performance of Sarah Chang, not including Vivaldi's Four Seasons! All the pieces she plays are perfect, and I have yet to discover ALL the songs she has a recording of! :) LOVE YOU SARAH! I play the violin, too, but I am not as good as her.

  • @violintwilightsaga28 Hi! I play violin too!

  • the conductor looks like hagrid x perlman xdd

  • that is one ugly conductor

  • @AnneBoleyn88 LMAO... James Levine! The more he does apart from Opera, the more I wish he would stay with Opera...

  • magnificent

  • she's sickipoo in the violin

  • @3drican u r so stupid she is the best

  • A live performance is so much different than a recording. You cannot compare the two. (Unless it is truly a "live" recording of course).

All those who dislike this performance, please post their own. I am eager to see it.

  • I think Chung is good, but I don't think she is nearly as good as others.

  • @tlcooper93

I have to disagree. Check it out.

Kyung Wha Chung plays Bruch violin concerto No.1 - Mov. 3 (Prom 2002)

(conducted by her brother - she was aged 54 - so much emotion)

Kyung Wha Chung plays Bruch violin concerto 3rd mov.

(much earlier with composer and conductor Andre Previn)

  • @SugarTomAppleRoger

If you had read my earlier posts, rather than joining in late on a discussion, you would have seen my praise for her recording of the Bruch Violin Concerto.

I have yet to find a recording that tops Tibor Varga on the Bruch,

  • @tlcooper93 Sorry. You are correct of course. I did not read that far back. Of course Tibor Varga is fantastic. I never realised he was on youtube, but I found a sample. We did have a record of him playing the Beethoven Violin Concerto. The more modern ones do not have the clarity that people like Varga, Heifetz, Milstein, Oistrakh, etc had. Of course I am not immune to the tortured expressions on modern faces and the flashy bow-work that were absent in the past - all very exciting. :)

  • @SugarTomAppleRoger Hah! I love the way you put that. Completely true.

  • Ok. Listened to Perlman, Heifetz, and even a Menuhin recording!

    Chang rules.

  • very fast amezing i like

  • I'm pretty sure she butchered this. Go Perlman!

  • @MrBoomBoom300 Butchered? O come on! She is great.

  • i think that is levine and the bso

  • what's the name of orchestra ?? It's beautiful ~

  • Comment removed

  • I really like her bowing which make deep violinic sound ~

    It's her own.

  • Ugh she makes it look like she's playing a simple scale....She's absolutely amazing

  • She gonna break someone's face !? Now, she makes her violin screams !! I love better this one than her Bach's Air on G string stage performance !

  • intensity! but very fitting... she is so hardcore... but this concerto can handle it! awesome!

  • His interpretation is very well executed but its sound is very metallic lack a bit of her Perlman!

  • And btw, what she's doing at 1:59-2:03 seems very suggestive... LOL

  • @physphilmusic dude rlly? how old r u?

  • @crazynugget8 Oh, I'm only 19. What, trying to impose your self-created standards of maturity online? That was more of a crack on the mannerisms of musicians rather than true sexual innuendo.

  • A bit crazy to think that she said this was one of her favorite concertos as well as her EARLIEST: she auditioned to Juilliard playing the Bruch when she was 5 1/2 years old.

  • This version is so abrasive... lighten up a bit.

  • Kind of isteria!to fast to dramatic...to much...

  • lol james levine is cute?

  • at about 2:40 her clarity on the g string is amazing

  • This is at the Verbier Festival

  • Her interpretation is the way she feels the spontaneity of passion that was all Romanticism especially within the sublime of nature. Bruch certainly wouldn't have minded at all.

  • After listening to Hiefetz, her playing sounds really agitated.

  • What's the name of the orchestra?

  • why so fast, very good but to fast....

  • @dexxy80 i have to agree, her's is one of the fastest hear on youtube in terms of tempo (but technically, bruch being a romantic composer probably wouldn't have minded it).

  • @dexxy80 i have to agree, her's is one of the fastest here on youtube in terms of tempo (but technically, bruch being a romantic composer probably wouldn't have minded it).

  • people keep complaining about how scratchy it is, but personally i love it! GO SARAH CHANG!! XD

  • very exciting!!!!!

  • 0:37 !

  • She owns it! the orchestra & conductor at her mercy

  • idk what it is about her but i really don't like the way she plays....

  • conductor has no relaxation. sarah does her best to make it comforable to enjoy.

  • gorgeous smile

  • wow that conductor is so fat he has to sit down. cant imagine hes any good.

    anyway good playing sarah

  • @hodgrix That "fat" conductor is none other than James Levine. He is one of the most well-respected conductors in the world. No matter what you say about his appearance, he is a musical genius, and here, he accompanies Sarah extremely well.

  • @pppsssssssss Unfortunately in today's modern society hardly anyone cares about great classical music. Everyone pursues a lifestyle in that transforms them into modern machines. No one cares about his great musical talent because of his appearance.

  • @hodgrix haha this post is so funny (I say that in a mocking tone)

  • @hodgrix your such a dummy...the conductor that you call fat there is James Levine...Musical director at the Met opera house cpnductor there, europe, asia and any other continent in the world. the most famous of the 20th and 21st century he has health problems now...as he is older and seeing as though hes been conducting ON HIS FEET for the better part of forty years, I think he DESERVES to have a seat...when you get on his level, let me know...oh an by the way...watch what you say

  • yaya is that perlman conducting?

  • @musiccritic10 I think it's James Levine.

  • to MAXODE-

    Realy,I'm docord with you.

No one other violinist plays better. Sarah, plays with the soul for delciate ours hearts

Sarah chang is one treasure for the Humanity.

I'm sentimentalmente devote to Her, Long life to Sarah Chang!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Meravillous....... Amazing

  • Where is that? Aspen Music Festival or Julliard School maybe?

  • as much as i love sarah chang and think shes amazing and beautiful, i think a lot of her stuff is very scratchy! of course as a violinist myself i understand that sometimes it has to be to produce a loud volume, but shes can overdo it sometimes, personally!

but still, who am i to judge, id kill to have her talent... literally!

  • our Sarah

  • Sarah Chang is not good, she's great. No, she's not great, she's fantastically spectacularly off the chart! . To me, no one plays better.

  • Nice, but I must prefer the Janine Janse performance. Much more energy and emotion.

  • She's got the headbang thing going, cool.

  • @isair81 she is magnificent

  • conductor popped wood at 4:28

  • Youtube critics. Gotta love 'em.

  • Its very scratchy

  • this is incredible! i can really tell that she is feeling the music. and her sound is so clear, and beautiful!

  • I prefer a less grinding approach. She plays so many parts so very well, and she is definitely one of the better violinists today, but each note needs to be beautiful; I don't hear that with her. I hear a much large big picture which is very beautiful, but the individual notes should be milked to their greatest worth. The vibrato of Heifetz, and the ringing of Menuhin should be with each note.

  • @tlcooper93 Yet Menuhin said of her that she was "the most wonderful, perfect, ideal violinist I had ever heard." He was a most enthusiastic fan.

  • Corre mucho no????

  • OMG! i can not express the art of music this woman posses I LOVE HER LITERALLY!

  • i love the 3rd movemoent

does anyone know where i can download this part? i cant find it anywhere pleaseeee!!!

  • Great !

  • nice recording

  • pure amazing.

  • sometimes she seems to intonate a bit to high, and some of the fast notes are nearly unhearable...and i think she takes to much vibrato...

when i was younger i really loved that record, but i don't know, anyhow now it's not "clean" enough for my taste

  • @KleinerDummerHeimo Well, you have a point there because people have different tastes. Some want it cleaner and some want it to the other way.

  • I like Sarah Chang's playing - -

But for some reason I have a stronger liking for Kyung Wha Chung's playing in this piece

    I don't know; I'm just a cellist.

  • This is very very good. But may be I am old school...Kyung Hwa Chung is still my best for this piece. Some how KH Chung's bowing has just more style. Like she has absolute complete mastery over the bounce, speed, length, arm weight over it. Of course I am being overly fussy. Sarah Chang is a great violinist and is likely to become better.

  • @bearbear631 I agree. Chung plays this piece unusually well. I usually dont like her, but her Bruch is well done. However, for the best, I would say Tibor Varga plays this piece the best.

  • @tlcooper93 You don't like Chung? I think she is brilliant. Hell. They are all brilliant.

  • Who is the conductor and the orchestra?

  • @hbroadbent I'm pretty sure it's James Levine, but no idea what orchestra. You can probably google the performance.

  • @hbroadbent James Levine

  • I love Sarah Chang. She's a superb musician. But not every piece can be played as well by every violinist,. This is good but not one of her best.. It might be subjective ,but to me the phrasing and solo lines seems rushed and uneven

  • fantastic!!!!

  • Emotion not bad but not quite good sound.

  • amazing. oh my god. it made me smile. it's really nice. superb.

  • yesterday i watched her play this piece live in HK, she is so beautiful and talented!

  • she's just so charming.

  • she is just scratching the violin, very bad sound

  • @jasonform: check your computer!

  • @DanHSch1986 and you check our ears.

  • @jasonform I think perhaps it might be the recording

  • ew....

  • I agreeeeeeeeeeee!!

  • 音準不太好,音色不是很好,節奏不太穩定.

  • she is in a rush

    omg its so fast

    she is amazing though!!!

    but just too fast

your probs all going to put me with thumbs down

but i am just saying what i like!

  • its fast but nice and clean

  • J'aime énormément, c'sst magnifique très bonne continuation !!

  • well, this isn't as bad as her dvorak.

  • omg are you kidding, I thought her dvorak was so beautiful.

  • is that james levine as conductor?

  • @ansdyd no he looks older

  • To fast!

  • Yes love Sarah,One of the great live performers !! I have seen her recently and she looks a lot slimmer now than at this time !!!

  • wonderful performance.

  • youtrois gniaquouéidos

    çavopastaitailepotamorsai.

  • She masters the violin!

    parapsicologo tito

    argentina

  • How old are you?

  • All the members of this orchestra are really young! Feels like a junior orchestra...but not performance wise ;)

  • lol i think its james levine. but youre right, he looks like him

  • Tempo...

  • shes reli gd, very very passionate, great skills.

but i think it can be better if she can slow down and let the music flow out more!

    bravo!

btw, the conductor is so cute. lol

  • Sarah è una speciale violinista!

Ha lei un grandissimo e insuperabile talento , sensualità e sensibilità.

Il suo suono mi incanta e mi dona molta gioia. Sarah è una meravigliosa interprete.

I like to much she sound.

  • I can watch it a thousand times a day!!

  • Worst camera footage ever. Students of the violin can learn so much for from watching soloists for their fingerings and bowings. So little of that here. Don't need to see close-ups of the faces of the orchestra players; that's not why you listen to solo concertos.

  • i agree. what was up with that? it was her performance and they showed the orchestra 1 part to 1 of chang? yeh, that was stupid.

but students shouldnt learn fingerings/bowings from concert soloists. if they have to resort to that, then it shows a bit of lack of respect to their teachers, and probably shows that they don't have very good teachers. the "right" bowing/fingering is what you feel most comfortable with to convey what you want to musially.

    another great performance though bravo

  • What a performance!!

    Bravo!!!

  • ...Of course she has something special ! Miss Chang....passionate...perfect...gorgeous...performing this Bruch masterpiece !

  • I am not a violin expert but Sarah Chang seems to have something special? in her

violin music -I mean really special!

  • haha I love the conductor!

  • She plays so perfectly uniquely to herself:right speed, and right emotion
