What an amazing talent she was / is.....gritty yet vulnerable, sassy yet sensitive - a survivor thru' so many ups and downs until that horrific, tragic end.
Remember feeling like the world had ended the day that Kirsty McColl died and time hasn't healed it. This brings a tear to my eye everytime I play it (which I do often).
@richardgilbert2 It was released - had to rush out and get it after Garry Davies played it twice one after each other on the afternoon show on Radio 1 Does anyone rember that? or was i dreaming it - Excellent song though and thanks for the memory
i really really loved her...i got to speak to on the phone once, (she was a guest on a radio chat show and i just called as her interview ended and asked "can you ask her to talk to me for a moment please?" and she picked up! : )
i asked her about morrissey and marr, what the deal was (this was a year after the smiths broke up, ) she said "they just really hate each other."
Aw wow, awesome song, her voice is just amazing. All my friends would probably laugh at me for liking these kind of "old" songs but i love her music to bits :) RIP Kirtsty :'(
i always thought that kirsty died the sort of quirky death that her lyrics had a similar influx of strangeness about them. and as you say, brave, talented, and greatly missed. x
I always thought this was a great song. I find it amazing that more people don't know it or that it was never a bigger hit. Was Johnny Marr involved with this song?
I adore this song so much, it is definitely my favourite Kirsty song. Thanks so much for posting it, I can't find an mp3 of it and I only have it on cassette, (God, I'm old!), so its fab to know its here on youtube. RIP Kirsty. What an amazing talent she had, its such a tragedy that she died so young and in such a pointless, preventable way. What a brave woman though to sacrifice her life for that of her child. At least she left behind so many great songs. I miss her. :-(
Ah, well, as long as you receive your mp3 and manage to 'get' this song on to it, I'm sure you'll feel better. Kirsty is sadly missed; and, in my opinion, should have shone more.
remember driving across the USA listening to this when i was 7 or 8 :) much love

Twenty two years on; and still bang on the money politically.

This is one of my favourite tracks. Thanks for posting it.
I sing it myself at folk clubs and it is the hardest one I do, simply because of all the chord changes.

Haven't heard this song in decades. I always loved her smooth, soft voice. She left us much too soon. Thanks for posting.

It's time the clans SHOULD be rising again, to bring down the pillars of this dying system and then build a new and just one in its place.
Thanks for the song, Kirsty. Your body died too young, but your spirit lives in these times.

Why would your friends "laugh at you?"
Be yourself, you don't need to "follow the rest of the flock."
Kirsty wrote plenty of meaningful songs, and she is sorely missed by many.
Thank you for posting this song.

Great song. Very "Smith's Inspired". It's no surprise that she worked closely with guitarist Johnny Marr

Just why was this not a bigger hit? It's a mystery to me.
21shergar 3 years ago 2
Kirsty had three record labels collapse while she was signed to them, and she never got proper label support for any of her music.

This should've been a hit - but then again the pop charts tend not to be full of songs with sharp, witty lyrics like this.
