  • this is REALLY GOOD. Thank you so much

  • Awesome video! This has always been my favourite scene from STIII. You should've seen the look on Capt. Styles' face! He looked like "what the hell happened?"

  • I would of liked seeing dogfight between the ole former flagship of the fleet Constitution Class U.S.S. Enterprise 1701 taking on the new generation Excelsior and letting the Excelsior know the old gal Enterprise is still in the game and still a match!

  • did any of the original crew besides McCoy and Kirk go past the Rank of Captain

  • @Jamescs007 McCoy was never the rank of Captain. Sulu was the Captain of Excelsior in Star Trek VI. Spock was the rank of Captain starting in Star Trek II. Scotty held the rank of Captain in Star Trek V and VI. Kirk held the rank of Admiral in Star Trek: TMP, II, III, and IV, but was demoted at the end of IV back to the rank of Captain.

  • @blairlikesvoyager to get to Admiral McCoy had to obtain the rank of Captain he can't bypass that rank and go straight to Admiral

  • @Jamescs007 McCoy held the rank of Commander at the end of Star Trek VI, his last canonical appearance until Encounter at Farpoint, when he held the rank of Admiral. Therefore canonically, he went from Commander to Admiral. You can bypass ranks. Kirk skipped two ranks, Flt. Captain and Commodore. Also in the alternate reality, where most of Starfleet's protocols remained unchanged, Kirk was promoted from Cadet (Lieutenant) to Captain, skipping all ranks in between.

  • @blairlikesvoyager Correction! McCoy was never the rank of Captain on screen. He did however hit the rank of Admiral as was shown on the first episode of The Next Generation.

  • Wherever did you get the big band soundtrack?

  • Didn't they go out front first in the film?

  • She has trees animated lmao

  • I like your version of the Enterprise leaving spacedock, with the Sun in the background looks great!

  • That was a really good attempt. I can just imagine how many hours you put into it. Well done.

  • No matter how the refitted enterprise is done I still think it's the most beautiful star ship ever created.

  • Love the Kirk.

  • It was this video that lured me back into Star Trek. Thanks a bunch. :D

  • Can't beat the original models, CGI looks like cartoons.

  • how you get the cam angles in BC

    is it a mod?

  • Music's great, but the original movie did a better job of the special effects than this CGI attempt. Models and miniatures always look better than CGI in my opinion.

  • @viperhalberd

I agree with you. I did this using a 9 year old video game. I just wanted to see how perfectly I could do it. Thank you for your feedback. And yes, the Studio models do always look better :)

  • @RifleMan80 Let me guess... Bridge Commander? :D

  • @viperhalberd

    i use nothing else :)

  • @RifleMan80 what videogame?

  • @viperhalberd - 5 Years ago I might have agreed. Probably even longer. Have you seen the Enterprise D from "Enterprise" final episode? The modeler did it as a labor of love, and incorporated the best parts of the original 6 foot model and the more detailed 4 footer. The result is I believe the best looking Galaxy Class Model ever made.

  • I thought the bridge of the excelsior was cheesy. wasn't as nice as enterprise.

  • picard was too much of a bureaucrat

  • I think Picard would do something as drastic if he had just as strong reasons to. He may not have been the hot shot cowboy Kirk was, but he was no strait arrow either, he has violated orders and broken rules before. Especially in the movies.

  • You think perhaps they should never have taken Scotty off the Enterprise repair project and put him on the Excelsior.

  • WHY? Nice work but Why? The models are better.

  • Comment removed

  • I especially love the old 1940s jazz version of the Star Trek theme :)

  • Very nice job!

  • wow ... quite well done. thanks, and great music

  • Pickard would NEVER do this. Kirk has balls Pickard has a Vajayjay.

  • Good job! Even better than original theft of the Enterprise.

  • Ahhhh, this brings back fond memories of when I stole the Enterprise...

  • Why wouldn't the docking station itself have tractor-beams?..Jeez..even the Empire had 'em!

  • @WiseGuy5674 chalk it up to scotty probably sabotaging the stations defensive and offensive systems, at least for a short period of time.

  • Any Captain who carries a baton and files his nails doesn't stand a chance against Jim Kirk.

  • @Wolf1354 Why do you think Sulu took his job so fast. :)

  • @Wolf1354 HAHA! Love how the captain of Excelsior has the baton and nail file and that Kirk is sporting a bad ass leather jacket!

  • @Wolf1354 lmao very true

  • This was the best part opf the movie ever. But This Like what captain Kirk did I will have to do to get back to New Hampshire.

  • 4:11 If Captain Styles has tractor beam on stand by why didn't he use it?

  • Loved the Schmaltzy TOS theme!! Great job, Rifleman!!! =Stefan=

  • The stealing of The Enterprise is not only the best scene in the film but one of the greatest in the history of Trek. The destruction of The Enterprise is also classic.

  • Far and away, my favorite scene in Star Trek III. Thanks for posting.

  • As much as I always disliked his general air of arrogance...1:52 was the perfect time for the Excelsior captain to have rolled his eyes, to basically tell the audience...'Oh good G-d...he can't be serious...', THEN "I'm on my way..."

  • @VampireYoshi I agree but it think it is funny to have this overconfident stuffy and arrogant captain on the Excelsior and then it fails him because his new engineer took out the computer transwarp drive. I would have liked to see more of Styles.

  • Is that the enterprise doing a J turn? Day made!

  • Kirk: win.

    Scotty: win.

    Enterprise: win.

    Excelsior: ...not so much.

  • @simplystreeptacular Lol true but Excelsior got its revenge when the Enterprise-A needed its help in episode 6

  • @1Historygenius That's entirely different. Sulu was commanding the Excelsior then. Ergo, the Excelsior is awesome in movie 6. But not as awesome as the Enterprise. ;)

  • @simplystreeptacular I do not see how a different commander makes a difference if that was correct it would had been Styles: lose not Excelsior.

  • @1Historygenius It's SULU. That makes ALL the difference. And the words I wanted to use for Styles would have gotten me banned. ;) Everyone knows a ship's only as good as her Captain, anyway.

  • @simplystreeptacular So really then the loss was not Execelsior but that arrogant, overconfident, and stuffy Styles. Although I would find it intresting to see more of him but as a rival to Kirk if that happened in the Star Trek series. Kind of like how generals rival against each other with their armies in World War 2.

  • @1Historygenius Well, yes, but come on. It was the third movie, 'Excelsior' was supposed to be the shiny new toy used to demonstrate that sometimes 'new and expensive' is no match for tried and true technology, you know?

If I thought for a minute Styles would be anything more than a smear of dirt on Kirk's shoe, that would be interesting. Give me the Romulan Commander from 'Balance of Terror' any day. :D

  • @simplystreeptacular It was new and expensive Scotty just took out the component's in Excelsior's main transwarp computer drive. Proving brains is better than anything else. Scotty was smart to do that untherwise it would had been a disaster of Excelsior reached transwarp. Styles' overconfidence showed when he said to put the tractor beam on stand by but obviosly did not want to use before he showed Kirk what Excelsior was made out of.

  • This movie has always been my favorite of the series, because it truly spoke of the meaning of friendship

  • You cannot change the laws of physics

  • Good morning captain! Your Excelsior isn't anything compared to Gene Roddenbery's script.

  • Epic Ownage!

  • HAS to be one of the best sequences in movie history! I get a rush just watching it!!

  • Hey Chekov, Miles Standish called - he wants his collar back

  • Wish that you included the end scene where Kirk says: "Gentlemen, your work today has been outstanding. And I intend to recommend you all for a promotion.......in whatever fleet we end up serving."

  • LMFAO ...you done did damn good!!! =)

  • Would be MUCH better if you had the music at like half its volume, because i can barely hear the actors..

  • LOL @ 4:11

I never noticed it before but the display panel behind in between the Captain and the Helmsman looks like its showing that the Excelsior's iPod and PSone are connected ROFL !

  • Hmmm... How did he know Kirk was the one stealing the Enterprise? or did he just assume it HAD to be him!

  • @mhanley2375 in the book, Kirk had approached several captains about taking him to Genesis, including Cpt Stylez. Stylez was also aware of Kirk meeting with Fleet Admiral Murrow about using the Enterprise. In the book when he is told "someone is stealing the Enterprise!" the first thought that goes through his head is "Dammit Kirk!" he knew exactly what was going on.

  • That is a nice piece of work.

  • To all those who like Pickard......... This sceene explains it all. No hesitation!!!! None of this "suggestions", None of this lets have a meeting stuff. KIRK HAS BALLS!!!

  • @mark96701 He had a meeting and discussion with them before all this though.

  • Nice piece...!! I'd like to know where do I find and what music is that at the end, that "Star Trek Jazz Theme"...!! I don't know how or where to find it...! And I love it...!! ;)

    Can you help me...??

  • He said "Execute", not "Engage". Of course it wouldn't work!

  • Great Job on the cgi's !!!

  • Can someone please explain to me how the Enterprise got more damage done to her between the end of TWOK and the beginning of III?????

  • The locking "safety bars" on the STI through STIII Refit Enterprise and STIII Excelsior bridge chairs were pretty cool and they made sense. Except for whatever reason, Starfleet never used them again after the 2280s. ^_^;

  • Comment removed

  • Need a ending where the Enterprise collides into the spacedock's doors and explodes, or something.

  • its the enterprise's arboretum

  • Nice work!

  • I think ILM's work speaks for itself. This is what happens when geeks get bored.

  • The 14 people who dont like this video are idiots lol : )

  • LMAO oh, dear I guess the Excelsior has touch of the blues with her trans-warp drive circuit cards pulled!

  • I'm sure this is very hard to do, and I couldn't do it. But it looks like video game graphics. The model SFX still hold up today better.

  • The best scene from all star trek

  • Even if you put Bernard Montegomery in charge of the Excelsior, he's still a jackass.

  • This is pretty cool. Would you be able to make a side-by-side comparison of this and the original?

  • My favorite enterprise is the B but all i can say is "Excelsior = PWNED" lol, i still die laughing at that part

  • @ShelbyEleanor500 A hilariously humiliating start to what would become a legendary ship, no? The Excelsior is my all-time favorite Starfleet ship design and one of my favorite science fiction ships from any story or franchise. =)

  • @heavyarms01h hard to argue with you there, like i said earlier though, i do prefer the modified excelsior (Enterprise B) but yes a very successful ship nonetheless.

  • @ShelbyEleanor500 I don't know which version of the Excelsior I like better, the original, or the modified versions. They're both very elegant ships - they have the look of a classic, a design that's meant to last.

In the Starfleet Command games, they're classified as Battle Cruisers, another "vintage" naval class, comparing them to famous ships like HMS Hood or HMS Repulse: giant ships, with the guns of a battleship but the speed of a cruiser, built to chase down and destroy enemy raiders.

  • @heavyarms01h True enough, though everywhere else they're heavy cruisers, which i'd tend to believe since they can take more damage than a constitution class. At least then didn't meet their end like the hood and repulse.

  • LAWL XD wth is that such music playin in that background there XD DAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH XD

  • I'd steal the enterprise too!

  • 12 people dont like Constitution class Enterprise

  • In my opinion, this is one of the best star trek scenes. =Λ=

Also, the gayest scene here was that guy saying "Tractivating. Aye." I never understood that part.

  • @theimpossiblers "Standby tractor beam." "Tractor Beam, Aye." Is the exact exchange.

  • IF you combined the best of the first one and this one, you'd have a kick butt clip.

But....I LOVE the ending when Excelsior breaks down !!! I wish Nimoy/Bennett would have thought of something like that instead of some gurgling noises and "Good Morning Captain".

  • 11 People don't like this wow!

  • This is why I love friendly experts.

  • Damn this is simply TERRIFIC!!!!!!!!!

  • If only more of Star Trek III would have had this level of intensity and quality it would have been a good movie. This is by far the best part of the movie.

  • 4:48 Captain Kirk, FTW.

  • he is right he is in for a shock in transwarp that is lol

  • If James Doohan and Deforest Kelley were still alive I wonder what the next star trek movie with the original cast would be about?

  • I loved it when you showed the Enterprise against the sun. It was pretty and graceful. Why didn't you finish the scene where it went to warp? Anyway, great job, imagine what a crew an millions of dollars could do if you do this in your bedroom at night, for fun. So to hell with the model critics.

  • Great! Just what I needed to see to get over a bad day!! Thanks...

  • The line that really kills me is "How can you have a yellow alert in Space Dock?" Gee I don't know, unknown natural disaster (and those apparently happen a lot to the Sol sector in the 23rd and 24th century, sneak attack by the Romulans or Klingons.

I hope Styles lives long enough to be assimulated into the Borg

  • Nicely done! :D Always love watching that insufferable prick Styles getting his comeuppance.

  • Wow, amazing how much they age huh, I watch Shit my dad says and Shatner is on it, and I saw George Takei on Big bang theroy.

  • To compare someone's commendable amateur cg endeavors to state of the art (circa 1984) miniature and optical photography is a bit simplistic. These vfx are still some of the best spaceship shots ever put on film.

  • This is why the original crew is beloved! Doesn't matter all the fanwank about which captain is better, or who was smarter, it matters that when friendship was on the line the originals would always have your back! They were willing to throw away their careers and be court-martialed just to reclaim Spock's body and return his spirit to it. I doubt Picard or any of the others would have done so for a crew mate! The originals are iconic!

  • To compare someone's commendable amateur endeavors to state of the art (circa 1984) miniature and optical photography is a bit simplistic. the vfx in the space are still some of the best spaceship shots ever put on film.

  • Why are there trees inside the Enterprise engineering section? :-p

  • @Random1208

It is the Environmental/ Observation deck. Its like a little park within the ship. That section can also be used for hydroponics.

  • @RifleMan80

That's what I get for not watching the original series. :)

  • @RifleMan80 Not to mention that plants make an alternative oxygen source. Wonder why the producers never thought of THAT.

  • @Random1208 yes,on or around deck 18 or deck 19. Engineering is on deck 15 or deck 16.

  • @Random1208 the engering section takes up several of the upper decks of the secondary hull. what youre seeing is the enviromental/observation deck, which has extensive gardens. its purpose is to provide fresh oxygen for the ship as well as fresh vegtables and fruits, in addition to being a great place for crew to relax in a nature like surrounding

  • I like the alternative angles I guess ILM must have done many angles. I think the photochemical visual effects RULE over CGI.

  • @Random1208 botanical gardens. its a recreational atrium on O deck i believe.

  • @Doug19752533

Thank you for answering my question, but someone else got to it first.

  • @Random1208 Yeah...somebody put a vivarium in there? lol

  • you know.. i only have one problem with the movie script in this scene.. They both order 1/4 impulse... If they were traveling that fast, within the space dock, they would have both slammed into the inner walls within seconds.. I'd love to go back in time and make them re-write it as "thrusters reverse/ahead full"

  • @shawho "one quarter impulse" could be something like 1/4^4 in the spacedock... altough I think it's better as thrusters reverse

  • @shawho You're reading my mind.

  • @shawho you make a good point. in TMP and WOK, they use thrusters to leave dry dock. in star trek 6, kirk orders 1/4 impulse to leave space dock. Valeris tells Kirk that regulations stipulate ONLY thrusters in spacedock. of course he overrules her, and notice how fast the surge towards the doors. so yes thats a good error you pointed out.

  • I have a question and a comment. What happened to Captain stiles after this? And Captain Stiles was wrong Kirk did sit in the captain's chair again.

  • @Jamescs007 in ST4 He was ordered to intercept the Whale Probe in but never made it out of spacedock because of the probes neutralizing effect. this earned him the nickname "Spacedock Styles". in late 2289 he was killed at an early peace talks between the Klingons and the Federation when a bomb detonated It was at that point that Sulu, Styles' first officer, became captain of the Excelsior

  • Poor Styles. :D

  • love the music at the end - it would be great to see a still image of a kitten on the viewscreen with a caption saying "please stand by".

  • The original crew rocks! They're an EPIC WIN~!!

  • should have put rickroll at the engine stall

  • Comment removed

  • He didn't say engage.

  • Are you just gonna walk through them?? - Calm yourself doctor! LOL

  • One thing i don't get is that how why or how was the crew of the excelsior already in place before the captain walked in?

  • @jmar28a The ship was being readied for tests for it's transwarp, plus a yellow alert in space dock, guess that means the crew gets into place ASAP.

  • @jmar28a they were preparing for its transwarp trials so the crew has to be there to check up on all systems etc.

  • thumbs up if you noticed the trees on the enterprise at 2:01

  • Excellent video remake... the music at the end sort of killed it however. Save the sax music for the credits only :-(

Otherwise great work. We want to see more vids from you Rifleman!

  • Ioved this video because it showed a crew willing to sacrifice their careers to save a fr4iend they left on Genisis.Like anyone we do for a friend in Need or in trouble .

  • @Bengtson74

"Sometimes the needs of the ONE outweigh the needs of the many"

  • Can you do a blooper in which the space doors don't open in time? I want to see what happens.

  • Not all odd-numbered Star Treks are bad....

  • this clearly proves models are better than CGI

  • @elcap22 I agree but anything fan made that is fun gets a thumbs up from me

  • @elcap22

Well, there are far more details on a model. At least at those tomes. Today you would not recognize the different s. At least if you have a high end CGI and an high end grafikcard.

But back then, you are 100% right.

Do you know the game Star fleet Academy? The CGI back then was already pretty good. So guess how it is today if you do it professionally ,

  • @elcap22 i agree

  • Only old geezers like me catch the significance of "Good Morning Captain". It was the opening of "The Captain Kangaroo Show."

  • As always RifleMan80, beautiful work!!!

  • dude you did an amazing job with this!

  • One: I always loved it when Excelsior broke down. Even though I've become fond of the Excelsior design, it is just funny hearing her stall.

Two: I guess there really is no way to duplicate that last parts of the scene when the Enterprise and Excelsior pull out under Spacedock. Its just really good work on ILM's part.

  • love the Series Music.. that would have been an awesome touch to come blaring out of their consoles in the movie.. LOL

  • Great vid (the CG cuts can and IMO should be improved, but great overall); there's a Trek "door opening" SFX around 3:50 -- or that's the sound of the Enterprise changing direction.

  • Always love this scene ! thank for posting ! LOVE you edits! Nice work!

  • Always love this scene ! thank for posting !

  • I take your word for it then, I suggest the top brass would look dimly on any captain who obeyed precautionary safety regulations at the expense of preventing the theft of a federation starship.

  • When Excelsior heads out, why did Styles order 1/4 Impulse power? As Valeris pointed out, "Thrsters only whilst in spacedock"

  • It was yellow alert in space dock and it was captains discretion to choose 1/4 impulse. Kirk wanted to get away Styles wanted to chase...

  • Yes, but my point was that Styles was a by the book officer - ironically the same thing for Captain Esterban on the Grissam

  • Was he? how much do we really know about Styles from cannon? He was only on screen for 5 minutes.

  • @Trek001 It's possible that they instituted that regulation after this incident. Valeris never said which regulation.

  • @melchior00625 possibly - but thre must have been a speed limit in space dock anyway as they entered dead slow on a tractor beam at the begining

  • Awesome! I use to watch this part over and ever again when I was a kid.

  • The inner section of the space doors remind me of the Apple II brackets.

  • loll at the ending

  • You steal it again and again and again. Yet you just cannot get board with it lol. Gj Draken.

  • 5 stars again ;)

  • awesome work ,whats next?

  • That was just frakking awesom! The music was a nice touch, too! Scotty REALLY clogged that ship's plumbing!

  • I love it!

The music at the end cracked me up!

You sir, have inspired an idea....

  • I loving hearing that put, put, put when the Excelsior stops LOL!!

  • Simply beautiful to watch - I always loved that scene and now even more so! I am looking forward to our next visual treat!?

  • once again awesome work
