this is better than the whammy imo, cus you can shift between the 1 up and two up without having to work on the knobs live, for example...this is way more easy going, and the inner trimpods makes it even more unique to your own sound. but, its more expensive...? id say worth it. if you want low octaves, i would say go for the MXR blue box.
@VeryOldTom you are aware that you can controll the whammy via midi? thats especially handy for live playing.. and i think almost all zvex effects are out of the known awesome, but the whammy gives you more control over the octave, having the pedal and all. but dont get me wrong johnny octave almost plays on another pitch. (get it?)
The Octane 3 is an octave fuzz pedal, this is just the octave effect without the fuzz. That, and obviously the Jonny has the second octave, while the Octane 3 has just the one octave up. This has a slight breakup just by the nature of the effect; but, the Octane's fuzz is an actual fuzz that you can shape and control with the input and tone pots.
this is more of a classic octavia design which gives you a slight ring modulated tone which makes for interesting distorted tones on both leads and chords... You will not get this tone with the whammy..
The Whammy is great for what it does but this pedal is something different.
Lol! Cool.

So what is the essential difference(s) between this an the Octane 3? Sound and circuit wise?

Why not just buy a Digitech Whammy? You have an ovtave pedal and a whammy.

These pedals catch a lot of flack, but if you understand octave pedals pretty well, I think it's hard not to appreciate this thing.
