Just ordered one of these bad boys, going to throw an SSD in before I even power it on for the first time. Too bad Lenovo's expected ship date is Nov. 29th. :-\
ok i need to know , is it hard to change the old hdd with the new one with ssd ? and if you change an old hdd with a new hdd , u need to re-install the windows 7 again right ? and when u bought it , it didn't come with a win7 dvd , am i right ?
or is it possible to copy and paste all the windows 7 OS file and other file into a new hdd that will be install inside the laptop so no need to install the OS again ?
Dang! Mine takes about a minute with the stock HD. How fast do programs launch on yours? With mine, I can start things about as fast as I can on any other computer.
I just ordered one of these, and am wondering how difficult it is to swap the Fn and Ctrl key. Supposedly you can swap the physical keys, and there is a BIOS option to do the keybinding swap.
@ThePatrykfilm9000 Yes. The performance is resonable, but still not as good as Chrome. It's similar to my 1st gen Core i5 desktop (in terms of responsiveness).
@ThePatrykfilm9000 Just how responsive it feels - I didn't use any benchmarks, there aren't any numbers. IE9 is noticeably slower than Chrome here, but that's been the case on every machine I've tried.
Could you give an idea of how fast it is? I am thinking about buying one but I am afraid of it being to slow. My main use would be surfing internet and Excel. I know that they are not high cpu-consuming task, but I am afraid that when you open several tabs in Firefox and have an Excel and a Word document opened the laptop turns very slow. Could you give us your experience or record a video?
@Charlo74000 I have just bought a new one and I am a bit disappointed because it is quite slow. I am figuring out what to do to make it faster. I have observed that the default Windows 7 boots with 900MB in running process!! Do you know where do they get so many processes? Do you recommend a clean installation?
What about SSD? Is there any issue about it? Should the installation be straightforward? SATA II or III?

@Charlo74000 I find without an SSD mine's fine for web surfing, word processing, email, and playing HD video, some games (on low settings), and some basic photo editing. This is exactly what netbooks should be. Thanks a lot Intel Atom for making netbooks known as slow dogs.
Thanks for the video. I was wondering, have you noticed a difference in battery life with the SSD instead of the HDD? Also, how many programs or files are you able to store, including the OS, before you run into very little free space like 5GB?
I saw both your videos and I'm on the fence between this unit and an SL410. I'm just curious how much heat your x120 puts out when streaming video? Any fan noise? I'd guess that the SL410 would be cooler overall. Can you guys enlighten me?
Thanks for uploading this video, I think I am going to get a ssd for my x120e. Funny I also have the same layout (black taskbar on the side but I have solid black color for my background.
Did you image the Win7Pro from the original HD to the SSD?
I clean installed Win7Ult to my x120e and I'm trying to find the background you have. You have that background when loading win7 from 22-25sec. I'm guessing you need the original lenovo installation image.
@Charlo74000 How did you do the clean install with what came in the box? (no disks) That's the problem I'm facing: I'm moving from the 360 GB HD that came with it in favor of a 128 GB.

@sp00n32 You can download the Windows 7 ISO images from mydigitallife.info somewhere - I forget the exact URL though. Then use the license key that came with the machine to activate.
Very nice. I have a dual core x100e with Intel SSD. lightning fast considering that its a tiny borderline netbook. I'm sure that the x120e is much faster still. But i'm curious... my Windows Experience Index for CPU is 4.1. WHy is the x120e only at 3.8? Is the WEI accurate?
no the cpu score is correct. they the same on th eother models. i had the k625 and got 4.2 but its true that this cpu is not as powerful but it does perfom as good on certain software.
The older x100e processor is indeed faster than the current x120e, but it put out more heat and the x120e still have a edge in the graphic department.
@feedreader2009 No - I think the CPU is slightly faster than the previous dual-core one, but graphics are significantly better. Battery life and heat are also much better.
@yhp99 I've heard in some sources that the x120e has more power and in others less (just CPU power, not GPU), so that might be why. I believe there were multiple dual-core options at a time.

Are the chiclet keys easy to remove?

Is there a difference in battery life using a SSD?

Thepatrikfilm, the fastest browser is chrome.
Look for the tests.
Nixxon157 11 months ago
Have you ever tried Internet explorer 9??
Its a fast browser i must tell!
Its faster than any browser!
please tried it.
ThePatrykfilm9000 11 months ago
@ThePatrykfilm9000 I find it's pretty fast. Chrome still seems a bit faster though. I use Chrome on my x120e.

that is a good laptop with a very creepy looking battery.
mahmut123456 11 months ago
@mahmut123456 How is it creepy looking? I never even notice mine, even though it's the 6-cell version.

if you rerun the performance assessment the side-docked taskbar gets slimmer which should help you save space on the small screen.

Because I have an SSD, everything is extremely fast...I guess this laptop is perfect for office tasks (web browser+excel) with or without SSD.
Buy it, you won't regret it

The laptop stays cool, however I've never played any games with it. No heat during HD video playing, a bit of fan noise when using chrome + flash

Nope, clean install. Original image was loaded with crapware...
I just recovered the backgrounds from the stock HDD, somewhere in C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper

From the reviews Ive seen, the x120e spanks the x100e in all areas including CPU intensive tasks. I wonder how accurate the WEI really is?
Anyhow enjoy your new machine. I wish I could trade my x100e in for a x120e LOL

I'm surprised your experience index is 4.1 for an older CPU.
I freshly installed the OS before recording the video, maybe there's a CPU fix released by Lenovo, I'll check that
