A 500hp Hatch can run 10's with slicks and a good driver. Domestics will never be as efficient as imports. Sure they have raw power, at the price of twice the amount of cylinders, which lead to an even greater repair bill when it blows up.

@eclipse10101 More cylinders= more damaged parts. How much does a sleeved v8 block cost vs a sleeved 4 banger? The sleeving of a v8 with bottom end is much more then a build 500hp honda engine with a turbo kit. 4 bangers will use less fuel since it's less cylinders. Less rotating mass because it's only on 4 cylinders. total cost of a 1000hp 4 cylinders is a milestone cheaper then a 1000hp v8. Face it man, only thing v8 have is raw power, everything else a 4 banger can do for cheaper.

Go out an compare prices to parts on domestics and imports and then come back to me and tell me which is cheaper. a supra 2jz with aftermarket rods, piston, fuel/spark upgrades and a T88 turbo will make 700hp and cost thousands less. You need to get your facts straight.

@omegax05 Speed is speed no matter how you go about it in my eyes. I think these little Honda's running 10's is just as amazing as a rwd car running 9's. As far as price just like with imports I'd assume it depends on how you go about getting that power and what your starting with. You could buy a stock Z06 for around 40k used, drops cams in it and run 10's. Or build a older Camaro with an ls1, with just bolt on's will run int the 10's.
@omegax05 i have a k24 with over 300whp NA and this is the dumbest thing ive ever read.. stroker kits for kseries are super expensive.. drag cartel short blocks are like 8k.. the short block. my motor was 7500 for the long block stock crank. with 7500 you could build one hell of a v8..

Track use they would be no good compared to japanes and european cars. They do use them on drag strips but it would most deffinatley be a non road legal, plus cruising around in big 5.0 + american cars as daily drivers would be an economical disaster, you know we pay £1.40 PER LITER :O
