Here here Rodney!! I'm originally from DC and lived for years with the threat that by 1999 the Atlantic would be cresting around the base of the Washington Monument. Science with a political agenda is nobody's friend.
I'm always skeptical when fat Rebublicans use tactics like character asasination to belittle science or policy. That guy is an asshole and the scientist did suggest that the data be left to stand on its own regardless of the fact that one graph used questionable tempreture data in conjunction with tree data that was unusable after 1960. It seems like a very small infraction that is being made out to be more than it really is. Kind of like a blow job. :)
@MrCaltec Character is the most important issue!! If the character of the person doing the research is in question, then all data derived from that research is in question. Environmental scientists are naturally inclined to blame people for climate change. They love the environment and are biased in doing the research. They do not know why the tree ring test fails after the 1960s, yet they just ASSUME there is a reason other than that they are wrong. Of course there has been a warming...
@KiheiLawyer in the past 30 years, but the issue is whether HUMANS caused it, and thus, is there anything we can do to affect it. It is so obvious that given the 1970s "ice age" theory versus today's CO2 theories, we either do not know or don't know enough to make a determination.
I'm not suggesting character is not an issue. Only that when pundits for the counter point of view use that in an argument instead of providing there own scientific evidence to refute the claims that its usually politically motivated and questionable at best.
often times issues such as this are, shall we say over the head of many, me in particular. now this doesnt mean that i couldnt learn more about the subject, but then there are scientists that have spent years researching this very subject, and when these scientists come to much different conclusions, well, where does that leave me,,,well, when one side is caught fudging the data, then i have to assume they are hiding something, which in science is never a good thing
I think people should look at the science and the data before accepting what they are being told. Science becomes a religion when you "believe in" it rather than understand it. I remember reading somewhere that people were wrong about the number of teeth in a horse's mouth until someone actually counted them. Until then, everyone assumed the number given in the books was correct.
I think the problem here is that the global warming denier community is trying to take a single incident of what you've described - which I'll agree should not happen - and paint everyone involved in climate research with a very broad and disingenuous brush.
Marc Morano runs the Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow, a conservative anti-environmentalism think tank. He's hardly an objective skeptic.
I'm not using the word word to describe people that disagree, or want to ask questions. I think that's to be expected given the circumstances.
I'm using the word "disingenuous" to describe those people, like Marc Morano, who are not in the debate to ask honest questions, rather they are using the situation as a means of furthering their politically driven agenda without regards to what the truth might be.
I'm all for honest and open debate, and I wish we'd see more of it frankly.
at this point i really cant see much honest debate, since for honest debate to occur those who have used their power, attained through disingenuous means, come clean. how can any honest debate happen when those in power are trying to stifle debate and marginalize those that disagree.
part 2 of 2 it would be a hopeful sign for each side to start from scratch, but those who are the institutional leaders of this nightmare will not admit they lied, so they will continue to sit atop their high horses and just sit back and wait for the institutional machine to grind dissenters into dust, which will not happen, so im not too confident your wish will come to pass
You're making a lot of assumptions about "those who have used their power", and that they have attained that power through "disingenuous means" and what it means to "come clean".
I don't think anyone knows the extent of this problem. We won't know that until an independent review of the situation is completed. Until then jumping to any sort of conclusions is simply reactionary IMO.
The problem with your assertions is that the deniers have been doing the denying of CW before this incdent took place. "This" incident underscores the many years or skepticism that went unheard due to the overwhelming and unquestioning support of this consensus science by the mainstream press. And your latter assumption is also fallacy as you cannot prove his postion has truely skewed his objectivity anymore than a scientist that wants to just believe something is right on the cache of others.
I understand the heated nature of the debate, and it's one I've been having for a long time. I hope I didn't cause any offence to anyone with my comments on your last video, but I am quite strong in my views. Just because someone thinks differently from me doesn't make them a bad person.
It was actually a pretty mild exchange compared to some I've seen. Do a search here on YouTube on the words "Varney" and "Begley" and you'll see a VERY lively debate on climate change between Ed Begley Jr. and Stuart Varney.
where are the videos????????????? Link directly to them please.

@KiheiLawyer Sorry, found them. I assumed you had videos from 1975. Found them.

The Religion of Climate Change will not be denied by its faithful...
Actually history is repleat with great minds shunned for daring to challenge accepted thinking...
Many of the folks championing this cause have been lining their pockets in the process leaving in doubt their objectivity...

to use the word disingenuous to describe those that disagree with the people that have obviously been tweaking the data is golden
