@gpciie It is actually the same "called" play. Titan special teams coach Alan Lowry (still with the Titans) has alluded to it and this game on several ocassions.
I do know that SMU was doing these things, but im pretty sure they werent the only school doing it to that extent. I mean come on, an Aggie booster bought dickerson a car.
I remember listening to this game with my Tech alum dad on the radio. After the return, he gets up from his chair, turns it off, and walks out of the room. No words spoken.
thanks for refreshing the memories. I was never paid - got two degrees from SMU though. Tech was a fun rivalry. I hope happy days will come again. PONY UP!
Ah yes. The good old days of SMU football. Back before the NC double assholes crippled the program. SMU fans, I feel your pain! I am an Alabama fan, and the NC double assholes fucked our program in 2002. We even went out and hired a $4 million a year coach and STILL can't win. Just goes to show what the communist NCAA can do.
One of the great finishes in college football history, particularly with the pony express ranked number two and undefeated. Unfortunately it is largely forgotten because the following weekend the Cal - Stanford band game happened.
What a shame, no one has mentioned that "The Voice of God" is narrating this clip. He is THE voice of football in America. I'm in awe, and always will be, of John Facenda's legendary delivery and voice.
I think some of these "posters" weren't born in 1982. In any case, they have no idea who John Facenda is. He died in 1984, by the way. Incredible person--glad I got to know him.
You're not kidding, the videos here on the Tube are polluted with the likes of that...and the people posting them. Such filth compromises a service's credibility.
hb151. "By the way, great video. The Voice of God..."
Write a check, go to Tech. We're smarter, have a much better city, a much better campus, a much better academic program, and have much more history to our football team then Tech does. Regardless of the DP, football at SMU will eventually be back, and then we'll again be much better than Tech at everything we do.
I'm digging the Masked Rider at the 50. Thanks for posting this. I was only 6 months old when it happened and I've always heard people talk about it, so I've always wondered how it happened. Thanks for posting this.
Craig James is a fucking little girl, a crybaby, a redneck peice of shit.

Wow, a pretty similar setup to the Music City Miracle nearly 20 years later.

John Facenda is mentioned in the description at the top. Believe me, I would not leave him out of anything.

SMU was awesome.. Tech just didn't pay their players enough. Sand Aggys still sucks!
jstarling88 5 years ago
The DP was over 25 years ago, before any of you were a wet spot on your parents' beds. Get over it. SMU is still suffering for what happened.
MrMustang1965 5 years ago
SMU payed its players..., simple as that.
Cheaters.
tcuhndfrgs 5 years ago
That's a pretty ignorant statement considering what we know about all of the teams in the conference during that time period.
Teams still pay their players - the difference is that the teams know that the NCAA can never dish out a Death Penalty again.
