  • word play is fun!

  • wait this is a news show that is actually fair when explaining stories concerning republicans?? hahaha you crazy radicals make me laugh XD

  • I would just like to point out, that the artists themselves are NOT the ones getting pissy about their songs being used. It's the record companies and wmg, mad because we aren't forcing our money down their throats.

  • Hell yes they should be pissed. That is thier art and if it is used in a way that they don't agree with...that's personal.

  • did anyone else lean forward at 1:05 ? lol

  • they abso-fucking-lutely need to obtain artist permission for copyrighted material produced by anyone in a public forum (such as commercials and public appearances). Private uses of songs are fine, but they are getting in trouble because they aren't using it in the private setting.

  • sue um as much as u can (republicans)

  • I think these companies that want things like sopa have to realize that if the internet really was censored we wouldn't really have it that bad. Nowadays there are talented YOUNG singers, writers, actors, programmers, and artists that post their own ORIGINAL content on things like youtube. IFF we lost access to the mainstream music artists we would most likely default to the artists that love the art their creating. In conclusion BRING IT ON SOPA.

  • they should just chill out it's not a big deal

  • So what.. no candidate is supposed to use any music?? Ignorant fucking morons... Fuck your permission. If you put it out.. expect it to be used. If you don't want it used, don't put it out. Fucktards.

  • @KTwisted10 thats not what its about. if you make any content and use a song, and upload it somewhere you need permission

  • Newt sucks

  • well look at it this way... if you use a song without permission and they don't yell at you? You have implicit permission. If they do? Then they are saying "hey butt monkey i dislike you."

  • Well it's not like us YouTubers really have should be the ones to argue against copyright infringement...

  • heheh if i was a music artist and someone i DIDNT like used my song then uh yea ima be like "u cant hav my song!" if it was someone i DID like then i will be happy they liked and chose my song to represent them. WHO WOULDNT? O_o lol

  • haha just keep fucking with the republicans simply because it makes me smile :) If they don't realize they might get served when it's happened so many times they'll just have to blame themselves :D

  • Using a song may not win an election but getting in trouble for using a song might make you lose.

  • they need to chill out

  • Did you get permission to use that song?

  • Palin two-point-0 hahahahahah LMFAO I wish I came up with that.

  • well if i made an amazing song and it was used for making abortions illegal, making gay marriage illegal, or keeping marijuana illegal i would be pretty pissed off

  • why do you even ask such a stupid thing?

  • oh course they should, stupid question.

  • Yes

  • Politicians are just like everyone else, if we take something without permission it's stealing. But they think they can do it whenever they want, fuck them

  • Fricken love SourceFed

  • and then they invent SOPA. really??

  • @pcdsgh both sides have people who support it and both sides have people who are against it

  • I am all for artists being able to protect their music, but I think they should be fair and stick it to both parties not just the Rep candidates. And honestly given the use of the clips, I think they shouldn't sue but a standard misuse fine should be enforced for campaigns that use music without getting permission first. Like a speeding ticket. That would give the police a real job instead of pulling me over for failure to use turn signal when changing lanes (more like open your eyes cop!)

  • two words Kate Upton

  • The irony is that they probably downloaded the song illegibly of a torrent or a P2P engine, then they try to force feed us things like SOPA.... LOL

  • The Boss wasn't being "pissy."

Born in the USA was completely misinterpreted by Reagan who never even bothered to read the lyrics and as a result so many Americans still don't know what the song is about.

  • Of course they should ask for permission to use their music before doing so. Everyone else has to do that, I dont see how it's any different just cause they're politicians.

  • Musicians have created something and if you take that and use it on a highly publicized campaign or whatever then people might start associating your song with the politician and that could be harmful to you.

  • Hell yes musicians should be able to tell a person whether they can use their art in a political statement. These republicans are using the songs to develop emotional trust and empathy for their campaigns. The artist may not feel that their song is done justice by the morality (or lack thereof) of the person using their song. I wouldn't want a pedophile, woman beater to go around using any of my artwork and having it relate to (him/her). Like my book Archeon and the Virgo Moon on amazon.com.

  • Its pretty hypocritical of politicians to vote for the censoring of entire websites based on the "protection of intellectual property" (SOPA is sponsored by Lamar Smith R/Tx), and then turn around and not ask permission and follow proper channels effectively violating intellectual property copyright laws themselves. Its indicative of the flaws in our government when lawmakers are allowed to be above the laws they create.

  • it doesnt really matter.. those artists should chill the fuck out.. when u look at it from another angle ur actually promoting their songs :P well kinda :P

  • i agree with what joe said at the end.for Q:

  • Seriously if they are trying to run for PRESIDENT of the USA they should be able to know copyright infringement laws and how to either maneuver around them or stay within their guidelines. I don't think it is fair that only republicans are predominantly the only ones having these problems because the artists are more left-leaning (I say this as a democrat) and I think it should be even punishment both ways regardless of if the musician(s) supports or does not support the candidate.

  • FUCK NEWT GINGRICH

  • who gives a s@$#

  • I definitely do.

  • So we have now been fighting against ACTA, SOPA and PIPA for limiting our free use of the internet. Meanwhile, copyright is not respected IN PUBLIC by highly rated politicans.

How is this a discussion? Yes, some people actually download music and listen to it - in private. Political events in full public disrespecting the law and people get sued and prosecuted for pulling songs and movies off the internet.

    I mean, really people? Really?

  • Most artist can't relate to Republicans so i suggest that these people stay in their lane and play COUNTRY MUSIC. No country artist would complain and they hace music to match their policies. Just shows how out of touch these republicans are with the rest of america.

  • I'm scared to see the future world. The internet is breeding corrupt, left-wing, Michael Moore-esque nuts. I'm pretty sure alf of the people here are not even old enough nor educated enough to vote. If the majority truly understood anything about economics, Obama would not be in office for ome, and the internet would be much happier.

  • Of course I would, it's MY music after all

  • Newt really should know better. For all the "the liberal media is out to get me" crap they pull the republicans either have a really slow learning curve or are lying about the media being liberal. Or both.

  • YES. especially with all this sopa bullsh*t.. hypocrites..

  • Yes, but at the same time, America is way too sue-happy.

  • The musicians are a bunch of bitches and fuck the politicians.

  • Elliott looks like Justin Bieber here

  • awww come on! you didnt mention how ron paul used in an explosions in the sky song!

  • Yes they have a right

  • Heck no. If you have purchased a song then you own that copy of the song. Copywright laws are to prevent the unlawful copy and selling of music and videos. If I bought an ac dc cd that has the song hells bells on it, then I should be able to use that copy for my purpose. As long as I am not copying and selling that song then what is the problem? I paid for the rights to listen and use the song.

  • @MartyMcFly003 you did watch this video right?

  • "Wordplay is fun!" lol

  • if they didn't ask SUE! nothing else to it

  • If they're using the song in a public space, like before a speech, and it isn't being broadcast, why not?

If it's in an ad... well, anyone making an ad would have to pay the artist.

  • If I can't they can't. Plain and simple.

  • If you're doubtful about the effect of a song on politics, I suggest you take a listen to La Marseillaise (the French national anthem)

  • Where does it stop? If I politician has to ask permission for a public song, what about a political radio station? what about other public performances and seminars? That's what royalty payments and the abundance of performance rights agreements are for. If you don't want to buy into that system then you're free to try something else - perhaps an EULA before you download any song from i-tunes??? That should work...

  • NEWT has the 'eye of a serial adulterer'

  • I think that music does greatly influence people. Since the fear of change is viscarious, playing music to help their inner feelings be more comfortable with a movement is sensible.

  • the kind of music they use DOES have an effect. they know this, and that is why they use the songs they do.

as far as the breach of copyright laws goes, if its illegal for the average joe on the street, its illegal for the president, the fuhrer, the queen, the emperor...

  • Are you serious? 1. Yes they have that right. 2. They're republicans idc....

  • of course they should be able to take legal action

  • Joe & Phil are the funniest motherfuckers out.

  • News stories lie this only make SOPA seem more ironic.

  • joe should do this shirtless and elliott should go pantless.

  • Just more evidence proving that lefties are the rulers of double standards...

  • WHAT THE FUCK IS THE POINT OF SOPA THEN?! Fucking hypocrite Republicans.... -.-

  • Artists should have the right to be asked permission and for them to choose who uses their music for campaigning whether or not they are for or against the beliefs or message of the ads and the people who are making them.

  • YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

  • Artists are within their rights to sue anyone using their music without permission. It makes no difference what political party the artists or the criminals are associated with.

  • @Catawallupin that is all ggod and fine when the artist owns the music. but it is often the production company that hold it, and they are the ones that send out blank request for use of copyright material. the artist has no say since said artist doesnt own it.

  • The candidates should be required to get permission because the artist may not want to be portrayed as supporting that candidate.

  • It will if you end up thinking of Newt Gingrich.....(When "Eye of the Tiger" starts playing)

  • I let you use my song for a price.

  • Gingrich has the EYE of a SERIAL ADULTERER!

  • With any music written by anyone, they to have legal property rights to those songs. If they choose to deny anyone permission to use their songs, they have that right.

  • NoBama

    2012!!!!!!!!

  • no Lee..didnt watch it

  • If everyone else in the world needs permission to use a song (isn't this what SOPA and PIPA and ACTA and TUNA and KAMAHAMAHA are all about?) then politicians should definitely be forced to follow those same rules they're attempting to make. Also, never ever ever doubt the power of Eye of the Tiger.

  • Artist should calm down because at the end of the day there song is getting free publicity

  • music industry.. it's all about money, but indie is cool though

  • yes

  • And Reps want to pass SOPA... lol

  • I'm a musician and I'd be fucking pissed if I saw some old world politician using my music for their campaigning... Plus they have money and are worth suing.

  • Artist need to chill. They need to look at it as free advertising. Heck they could be getting sales out of these people playing their music. What are they going to start sueing people for playing their music at parties? or start sueing tribute bands?

If people were making money off of their song then ok, I see a problem. But to just play it during a rally or whatever I don't see the big deal.

  • Obama

    2012

    2016

  • WORD PLAY IS FUN

  • most of this is the republicans using songs that sound patriotic but do not understand the song, such as Reagan using Born in the USA which is about how badly Vietnam veterans were treated when they got back or when McCain tried to use Our Country by John Mellencamp which is about the country belonging to the everyday people and not the politicians or the rich

  • makes me cry when anyone uses 4′33″ by john cage without permission :(

  • agree with the musicians

  • Government wants to censor everything on the Internet with this sopa bs then why can't the artist behind the music do the same?

  • @Jgraciano93 Actually its the MUSIC and MOVIE industry that want to censor the internet.. the government will be the enforcer for whoever lobbied harder, its Hollywood vs silicone valley.... gooooooooOOOOOOOO SV!

  • I totally agree with all the musicians that want to do this because the

  • I can't believe Newt has gotten where he is in this election. It makes me believe that American voters are FUCKING RETARDED.

  • If the government wants to use things like SOPA and PIPA to censor the net and enforce crack down on piracy then hell yes musicians should have the right. Practice what you preach.

  • So they can use artists songs without permission, but with SOPA, PIPA, and ACTA, the

American public could potentially get jail time for sharing a song or a video thats copyrighted??? Something is incredibly wrong here.

  • The fringe 'TeaPublican' party of today is certainly NOT 'your grandfathers GOP'! How did this party devolve to the point they have? It's pathetic.

  • I guess that SOPA, PIPA and ACTA do not apply to them?! LOL

  • SOPA,ACTA,PIPA "ON"

  • Damn the Conformist Musicians.

  • Pay for what you use

  • WHAT DID U SAY? The eye of the tiger makes the choice for me..

  • NO LEE NO LIKE

  • Republicans should stay away from all the good things we like.

  • YES

  • Of course is bias. If it weren't so obvious I wouldn't care. They release the music to the public, not private. They get their paychecks if they get sold(or ads), not privately. In other words, someone who used that song actually 1) paid for it, 2) illegally download it(politicians lie!?!?), 3) found it on the old drawer, OR 4) bought it on iTunes.

I can understand permission, but I don't ask permission to play my rap or country -- even if Kanye West is a dumbass. Just let it be. Geez.

  • What's the point in trying to enforce a law that you yourself are not willing to follow?

  • PIPA and ACTA

  • If people on the internet can get sued for downloading music, then so should politicians, whoever they are.

  • Its understandable that they get upset about their music being used without permission, but c'mon... they don't have to be a brat about it. They put music out there or people to enjoy, if anything, they should be proud their music is getting more publicity. And thanks to google, if they like the song, all they got to do is type in some lyrics and badda boom, publicity.

  • fuk republicans!!!!!!

  • who he f cares.

  • I am so behind on my subs XD

  • Fico its just music besides musicians are still rich ass fuck

  • Should every club have to ask permission to play music from the artist? The are benefiting from playing music, yet the artist doesn't get compensated. How ever I think the politicians should at least ask permission.

  • I completely understand where artists like those are coming from. Having wrote a few songs myself, I know how much of a pain that would be for any kind of organisation cheaping out and using your creation completely out of context as a pathetic mechanism to promote themselves. And it's just a huge 'fuck you' to the artist by not asking permission.

  • Yes they should be able to be sued. Congress already has enough laws specifically suited to them (as in special laws for them vice all other Americans). Do an spot on all their "special" laws and see how much attention that will garner!

  • painters are never famous until they are dead. I think money crushes the creative soul, and the music industry as a whole gives us more evidence of that than any other artistic expression.

  • I have elliots hoodie AND i can't watch this show because the background light gives me a headache.

  • Irony...

  • Every artist you name sucks balls so who fucking cares?

  • They should ask...

  • I think as long as they purchased it legally then they can use it anyway they want. That goes for the rest of us too.

  • @kataylor0007 recordings purchased are for individuals to enjoy in their homes, cars ipods etc.. Public performances (large crowds, bars, etc) use in commercials and other such use is not included in that purchase price. You have to pay extra for those rights.

  • I was quite interested in hearing the details of this story, but after your short intro at the start of the reporters I had to pause it and stop there. I really don't want to get my news from the mouths of dickwads.

  • Hell, if I download one of these songs illegally and I'd get hit with some gigantic lawsuit, what makes these politicians so different?

  • Yes, its like soap in the shower..if you have some special soap and some one uses it without asking....I would get mad. But if they asked then how nice.

  • TEAM MUSICIANS

  • Newt Gingrich makes me sick

  • PENIS

  • Comment removed

  • He's not the eye of the tiger he's more the food for the tiger. That fat piece of shit should go and hang himself.

  • Chillout

  • My main issue, is that you can't actually contact a musician unless they're small-time.

You can try, but you'll most likely be talking to a middleman or something.

  • WORDPLAY IS FUN

  • well i think the artist should have complete control of who uses their songs and for what reason it is being used. however that being said the musicians song could be heard by millions of people so they are not only getting mad for illegal use of their song but the dont look at it as more publicity. I guess you cant have your cake and eat it too hahaha

  • Anyone should have to obtain permission to use someone else's art. That way the artist can control what or who their music is associated with.

  • using something created by someone else, for yourself, is plagiarism.... didn't we all learn that in school? just ask if its okay and give them credit for whats theirs. its that simple

  • Yes.

  • I believe that if they are going to do that to some candidates, but not to others, it's ridiculous. I completely understand them wanting to give permission, I simply do not understand why you would not be fair about it.

  • I believe that if you release the song then you are putting it out there for people to use. Unless you are really losing money over it, PUT YOUR BIG GIRL PANTIES ON, MOVE ON, and GROW UP!! You put it out there, so you have to live with the consquences. I don't have to have your permission for anything!

  • @polarpeanut dude, your really gonna call democrats bitches, when your bitching?! get a life internet troll.

  • the first

  • Yes

  • ~Get Rid Of Elliot Morgan~

  • @Regnows dude. Elliot is awesome.

  • Those musical, democratic bitches...

  • hell yea fuck these asshole in power

  • ron paul 2012

  • Good job gentleman I loved the "come on come on" part. You guys actually funny. Lee is funny in the blog where she being natural, yet every time I watch her in the offical videos she seem staged and not funny sorry lee you need to relax Girl!

  • chill the fuck out, my opinion

  • Respect the artists rights. Ask permission. Simple , straight forward. But I think they don't want to be associated with him or have people think of him when they hear the song.

  • @SourceFed>@sxephil

  • where is lee!!!!!!!!!!

  • yay politicians thinkin they're above the law

  • Sounds like fucking a SOPA to me

Politicians are not above the law. They have to respect the laws they make too- they owe it to the artists to ask for permission.
