It's hardly Florez's fault that the conductor isn't very careful about not covering his voice at times with an overly loud orchestra during this ensemble in a concert setting (it's bel canto after all, and not Wagner or Strauss). The ladies have high lines and are a lot harder to get covered.
Superb all of them: Edita, Juan Diego and Sonia, of course. The first time I had ever heard Sonia back in 2002 and it was love at first sight ....or hearing or heart
Gruberova should go to jail for overshadowing everyone else! Hardly anyone can be heard next to eDIVA GRUBEROVA. What a singing Goddess! What a DIVA. This is simply a mind blower. No one should really sing with her. She simply makes everyone pale next to her. She is simply inspired by Euterpe the Greek Lyrical Muse and by the heavenly angels themeselves.
Nah... I think she actually brings the best out of the other singers. Gruberova is as good at blending to make an ensemble number work as she is at shining during her own moment, imo. A true artist. :o)
I love this finale, Donizetti at his absolute best. Ganassi is superb and perfectly in style. Can't say the same about Gruberova though I thoroughly enjoyed her great performance (often a bizzare thing with her in bel canto).
