Thats it!You are now my favourite youtube-reviewer. A few gems on your list that I haven't seen so I guess it's time to get to work on that... One of my favourites of the year that wasn't on your list was "Terri".
Really glad to see a list that left out "Warrior" and added a classic Rutger Hauer-flick insead:) You know your shit! Looking forward to future reviews!
@m4em4e Thanks so much! I have no idea why everyone was obsessing over Warrior, it was bland. I really want to see Terri but for some reason it hasn't had a UK release :S I'll definitely check it out when I get a chance - I love John C. Reilly.
@barefootfiona Thanks :) I liked TTSS. Gary Oldman was flawless and it was directed to perfection - it created a wonderful mood. Ultimately, I found it to be unfulfilling though with a lack of payoff. It ended too quickly. Still a great movie to bathe in for a while though even if it didn't stay with me.
Oh, and the score was GORGEOUS. Alberto Iglesias is a genius.
Tom! Please make a video about your thoughts on this years Oscar Nominations...I personally couldn't be more appalled at how conservative the list is - really interested to hear your thoughts on it!
@fabittyfab I haven't seen all of the nominees yet so I don't feel prepared enough to talk about them. I will most likely make a hopes and predictions video closer to the time. The nominee choices never make much sense - not a single one of my top 10 ended up in the best picture category. However, they never nominate films like Drive and Meek's Cutoff so it seems pointless complaining about their absence. I always do though :)
@lukosius1221 Sean Penn shouldn't have been in in the film at all, the dinosaur sequence was a huge misstep, it was too long and needed some more harsh cutting and the symbolism at the end was too on the nose.
@FilmArtReview I have to agree with Sean. It was kinda attached to it and didn't hold as firm. Dinosaurs...well they were creatures who lives before us, so I liked that he used them as part of evolution example. I liked the symbolism at the end. It might have been quite pretentious and maybe too much but mostly it was great. You just like cutting stuff! U used this with other films too. Uncut scenes are harder to do I like them, gives them closer attention. Respect ur opinion tho.
Great video! After watching this I immediately checked out Meek's Cutoff. You did a great job selling it and you were absolutely right; it's a great film! ****/**** easily. I loved the 4:3 aspect ratio. Such wide open terrain has never seemed so claustrophobic and scary.
My favorites of the year are Weekend, Submarine, Beginners, Bridesmaids....I think that's it, I was really out of touch with cinema this year. I'm definitely watching all of these.
@bruana10 Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it even with the ridiculous length :) I've been meaning to go back and review some older films actually so keep an eye out for that.
For some reason I can't remember many good films this year, but enjoyed in no order Senna, Midnight in Paris, Sarahs Key, Submarine, Beginners and The Future.
Brilliant video so keen to see all these films. I like your genuine opinion on film which doesn't seem to come across in a lot of other channels. Out of interest are you working or studying film at the moment?
@atr3plyme Thanks! I hope to be working in film in some capacity in the future, I'm currently applying for university. That's a great collection of films although I never got round to seeing Sarah's Key which looked interesting. Great to see some love for Senna! It was hard to leave it off my list.
I'm surprised you didn't mention The Artist... but now I'm thinking you haven't seen it? Because I can completely see you enjoying a film like that! With that said, another insightful video. I've been meaning to ask you this, donno if I already did?! But what type of camera do you use? The picture is so clear!
@ShipperWar For some reason, I never got around to reviewing it - I may do in the next couple of weeks. I found it very enjoyable actually and probably one of the best constructed films of the year but ultimately, I saw it as a very good exercise in style over substance and can't imagine ever wanting to revisit it. It probably wouldn't be in my top 20 - it's been a great year so there's tough competition.
I subscribed! Great list and video. And THANK YOU for in the title, saying "My Favorite Films of 2011", instead of "The Best Films of 2011". It annoys me so much when people do that.
@moovieman222 Subscribed back, you've got a great channel! I know what you mean about best/favourite - if I was to pick the best films, the list would look different. I much prefer talking about films that are flawed but connect with me personally on a level that perfect films don't always do.
@FilmArtReview thanks! I mean it annoys me when people on these types of videos say, "The Best Films of 2011". Even though almost everyone does this (including users I like), it annoys me because their opinion is not a fact if that makes sense.
You have no idea how wonderful your channel is. Not only for your intellect but also your beautiful personality. Thank you so much for sharing this. I now have a wonderful to watch list. Cheers and have a beautiful year!
