@raran44 This actually was at the time and it cost USD$20 billion at the time. Usually when Hong Kongers say it, they are telling the truth whereas when my countrymen (India) say it, they usually are lying because it is sort of nationalist propaganda where they get really happy if anything is done properly in the country.
@wilsonshinkansen no, hong kong is shit, and improve your grammar please, your other posts in the shanghai disney section are grammatically incorrect to say the least.
@wilsonshinkansen u do realize, it became UK territory, because of the opium war.. that the UK started, first by giving the chinese opium, for silk and so forth.. making millions addicts.. for economic wealth.. and then the UK goes and sends a fleet and attacks the chinese, because the emperor, decided opium wasnt healthy for the country.. so yes it is a great country, soaked in greed, guilt, and blood.. but anyway, that was a 100 years ago or more.. let it be forgotten..
all people is not equal under the communism china, most of people is so poor, but major communist has so many privilege, car house food etc etc,,,,,,major communist in china just want to keep those privilege,so that why they killed historical amount of their citizen, its typical characteristic of communism, communist kill their against people without any permission necessary, china is perfectly lawless zone, chinese communist party killed historical amount of people for keep major communist`s privilege
Actually, the point that it was only built to restore confidence is not true. The geotechnical work was done scoping out the site, around 20 years prior.

even now, Hong Kong people don't like being called as a part of China..
even though we ARE, (i'm from Hong Kong, born before the transfer back to Chinese hands) we still like being called a Special Administrative Region, half China, half English =DD

This documentry doesn't mention that one main reason of undertaking this massive infrastructure project is the June 4th massacre in Beijing (this project announced in 1989, same year as June 4th) and panic after that. By early 1990s HK experienced massive outflow of middle class and highly educated people (ie. "idiots trust Beijing, let's escape the sinking island" thinking). The project's primary goal is to restore confidence
thanks for posting this i went to hong kong just a year after this airport was built. i was so impressed, everything looked so nice they had a train that ran within the airport and also the 'ching ma dai ghiu' bridge was amazing. we arrived in the evening and the sight was exhilarating
Wow, originally, I thought the workers used seven years just to build the airport. That isn't impressive at all. But with the bridges, tunnels and highways turns it completely around, making this an insane project.
The China Airlines overshoot incident didn't kill anyone...there were no fatalities, just injuries

i love how all the episodes of extreme engineering claim the featured project is the "biggest engineering project in history". Well, which is it?
