I've spent the last 2 days looking at your choreography videos and they're awesome.I'd love to see/learn more of them. I was also wondering if you still perform at Casablanca in Alexandria.
Hello, this is Amustela - I am not a regular performer at the Casablanca - I do however perform regularly at "La Kasbah" in Reston VA and "Pomegranate Grill" in Sterling VA - I always have my schedule posted at my website Thank you.
Sorry - but this choreography was intended for a beginner's level class (folks who had only 8 weeks of expereince) - it actually looks pretty cool when you see a group perform this in unison. I will be posting a little more challenging drum solo in the near future.
I love these step by step choreographies!! Thank you so much for posting them! Keep them coming! Thank you Amustela for allowing these to be posted! I do take lessons locally but I love being able to work on different styles taught from different perspective. More teachers should break things down so well like this!
By the way, I don't have anything against the choreography itself. I watched also some other videos with your choreographies and I found them very well structured and well explained. It is just this specific term problem here.
I understand - the use of the term "taksim" should refer to an unchoreographed - improvised dance performed to music - also improvised by a musician without structured beat. This video was originally intended just for my students - where I was able to explain the real definition - but the choreography was developed to help them learn the type of movements them might chose when dancing to taksim music. I apologize for the unintended misuse of the term.
Sorry for disturbing you again, but the problem is, that also the music is not a 8/4 Taksim (or Chifteteli). For me it sounds rather like a 4/4 Elzaffa. And many movements of this choreography are not typicall for the Arabian Taksim. O.k. this style here is American Cabaret anyway, but since we understand something very specific under "Taksim" in the original Arabian style, it is better to call this dance here different.
