This was a good night for wrestling because I prefer hogan as a heel for awhile instead of always being the good guy. His heel was very surprising and that made it all better. Also I don't know why ppl talk about Cena on all these but then again Instopped watching wrestling because it was unbearable.
the reason this will always be so shocking is because no one expected hogan to turn heel where as with john cena everyone is always thinking hes gonna turn heel which proably wont happen
I watched this Pay Per View with my American Flag draped over the TV. Hulk Hogan betrayed America on this day. He should have been executed for treason by all rights.
@iseachaixx the austin heel turn failed cuz austin was a badass and did whatever he wanted anyways against whoever he wanted so a large portion of the fans were still behind him, the reason why hogans turn was such a success was because no one saw it coming ....
For those of you who don't know, this was a handicap match pitting Hulk Hogan,Scott Hall and Kevin Nash against the Macho Man Randy Savage. You really have to wonder why WCW would agree to only having one guy on their team when the NWO had 3 guys.Didn't WCW know they could have had 2 more guys on their team? And what was that crap at 0:51 ?Sting comes stumbling into the ring like a drunk asshole to make the save and he gets knocked out by one of the weakest punches in pay per view history?Idiot.
Cena is and never will be the face that Hogan was in the 1980's... nor will he ever be the pioneer that Hogan was to build the WWF... its like the people who think LeBron is better than Jordan... people under 15 cant fathom any of it because they never lived it... maybe one day
@rawproductions08 get your young idiotic ass outta here, Nobody cares about that rapping gimick clown, Cena. Moreover your inferior just by copying. Cena doesnt have any near the charisma of hogan, hell not even the rock or stonecold. Dude is lame just this generation of wrestling fans now for buying this new garbage, lame
this had to be the single greatest face to heel turn ever, the nwo was the best ,the guys you loved to hate . the wwf has been trying to recreate this moment ever since
i remember everyone was so hurt when hulk did this and even started throwing food and trash at the ring even some fat guy tried to run into the ring which was hilarious but they kicked him out on his attempt to try to get into the ring
I've heard that the announce crew ( or really anyone who wasnt on creative/actual participants in the storyline) didn't always know what was going on in WCW. So it is possible that heenan didn't know, or the rest of them for that matter.
Omgod i remember this happening ..... i was 7 years old and i was crying like hell my dad was like suck it up its just television but as a kid hulk hogan was like a god
I was so mad when this happened, I remember watching the recap on Nitro at dinner and I threw my chicken bone at the tv. Hogan stabbed everyone in the heart that night!
other than saying this was the greatest heel turn ever, and the formation of the great faction ever (nwo) I have one more thing to say...RIP MACHO MAN RANDY SAVAGE :(
This is the first time that I have seen this being new to the sport entertainment thing, but I can't believe that WCW actually had the team of Randy Savage and that referee Randy Anderson as the team to face Hall,Nash and Hogan.Where was Flair or Sting? Or Luger?Savage is awesome, but not against those three, that's too much.
@vancedev Team WCW was Savage, Luger and Sting vs. Hall, Nash, and the unknown Third Man (who hadn't come out). Luger got hurt and taken backstage early in the match, and Sting had just gotten a beatdown before finally tagging in Savage. Eventually all four men were down, so Anderson started the 10 count. He wasn't on the team. Then Hogan comes out (he'd been gone for weeks), seemingly to save the day, and instead performs what may be the single greatest swerve in wrestling history. Make sense?
@Sith8491138 Thank you for explaining this, but I don't see Luger anywhere and Sting came into the ring stumbling all over the place and got knocked out by one punch.I thought he was tougher than that.Didn't he get suspended after this match for showing up drunk to this show?I'm sure Randy Anderson was part of the team because Hogan threw him out of the ring before he could throw a punch or do something to save his partner Savage.
@vancedev Well, this clip was only the end of a 16 min. match, and Luger was out very early. Sting had been in the ring for some time at this point, so obviously he's going to act like that. I honestly don't know anything about a suspension. Anderson was not on the team; referees get hit and thrown around all the time (a strong gust of wind is enough to knock them down, actually), so he was just 'punished' by Hogan for getting in his face.
Bobby the Brain didn't spoil Hogans heel turn. He had no idea that Hogan was turning that night. He was always anti-Hogan, clear back to there days in the WWF Bobby would always rag on Hogan. He was just doing what he always did here... turns out that he was actually right.
@pnroyal Dude, he didn't spoil it, you're completely correct about him always ragging on Hogan, but I promise you, he knew of what was going on backstage beforehand.
@pnroyal Heenan almost ruined it.. stop being a Heenan mark... luckily nobody at the time ever could fathom Hogan would turn heel... it was the grestest momment in wrestling history
@pnroyal It was all about the circle of trust here. Nobody knew except Hogan, Bischoff and Flair. Suspension of disbelief was working this night, I couldn't believe it when it happened! I've never seen so much trash litter the ring in my life.
@m12weezy true. since it seems like their turning away from the kid age crowd he might either. turn heel, or just go back to his gangster chain gang gimmick. idk
This was just masterful. The WWF could never pull off an angle quite like this. listen to the legit shock i nthe announcers voices. they had no idea what was coming.
I remember this night so vividly, i couldn't even eat the rest of my dinner that night! i was shocked beyond words but i couldn't really blame hogan in the end. the wcw crowd treated him terribly as a face!
@Distrukkt One thing's for sure, most of us weren't thinking Hulk Hogan.I had read an article just days before online in which Hulk Hogan made it clear that he refuses to turn heel.
@SuicideFunOnlyOnce I wasn't even paying attention at the time to Heenan's comment. It's not as if he needed to give it away anyway that the 3rd Outsider was Hulk Hogan because you knew as soon as he appeared.
I remember speculating for days prior to this PPV as to the third "Outsider" was with my fellow wrestling fans. Most believed it was going to be Bret Hart.I knew as soon as Hulk Hogan suddenly appeared and had a long pause in the ring that he was the third guy.
@skill14 I didn't see it as Bobby Heenan spoiling Hogan's turn. Watching this for YEARS before this, I dismissed it as Bobby staying in character, as in "they all know how Bobby feels about Hogan". After the legdrop, I heard Bobby STILL dissing Hogan ("What have I been saying about him all these years? Told you so...").
If the ultimate pro-heel commentator didn't support THIS heel turn, then I knew this was gonna be big...
True, but it made the turn a slight bit less shocking because that 1 comment put doubt in the viewers mind that Hogan could be bad when everyone thought Hogan was goin down to save Sting and Macho Man. And that comment even caught the other announcers off guard as they tried 2 shoot that comment down. It wasnt a big deal just Heenan being Heenan
Most people don't know that he reluctantly turned heel. The executive producer at the time asked him to turn heel for a new storyline and Hogan didn't want to do it because he didn't want to lose his fans.
Does anyone know the listing or has the video from the nitro where hogans son gave him the red and yellow gear and he re donned it over the black in the same night after his friends turned on him?
@GlitchMasta He won't. An remembered wrestler, sure but not a legend. I don't even consider Hogan a legend. He hasn't done nearly enough in that ring to be called a wrestling legend. He's the postor child/man for wrestling because of his gimmick (all american ass kisser), that's it.
The comment wwas meant as A joke??????How someone could think A person is serious when mentioning the words "mat technician" and Hogan,Nash,or Hall is an absolute mystery.Let me dumb it down ,,,,when Hogan would do his "back rake" on opponents, how could it be taken seriously, the guy was wearing full fingered leather gloves!!!ABret Hart and Curt Hennig forgot more moves than all 3 of those buffoons ever applied to an opponent in their entire careers!!!!!
What the hell is goin on heyahh sez Dusty Rhodes..Man,we just witnessed 3 of the all time greatest mat technicians all together,in the same ring.Hogan was such A tactical assassain,Nash was so fluid with his unstoppable, uninterupted chain wrestling, and Hall, well he just oozed technical perfection! No one man on this earth ,evah, could match these 3 greats, move for move, and I mean no one!I Man When Hogan would "Back Rake"(scratch)his foe w/ gloves on,you could feel the intense pain he was inflictin
Still, Hulk Hogan fucking sucks.

Most people don't know that he reluctantly turned heel. The executive producer at the time asked him to turn heel for a new storyline and Hogan didn't want to do it because he didn't want to lose his fans.

@YoungBuddy lol I like how just because people dont like John Cena they say he won't ever become a legend
GlitchMasta 1 year ago
@GlitchMasta He won't. An remembered wrestler, sure but not a legend. I don't even consider Hogan a legend. He hasn't done nearly enough in that ring to be called a wrestling legend. He's the postor child/man for wrestling because of his gimmick (all american ass kisser), that's it.

@clipsryan I thought that being the biggest ass kisser made you a legend???
GlitchMasta 1 year ago
@GlitchMasta Not in my eyes. Famous, yes. A legend/icon, no.

TheAngelus1898 1 year ago
What the hell is goin on heyahh sez Dusty Rhodes..Man,we just witnessed 3 of the all time greatest mat technicians all together,in the same ring.Hogan was such A tactical assassain,Nash was so fluid with his unstoppable, uninterupted chain wrestling, and Hall, well he just oozed technical perfection! No one man on this earth ,evah, could match these 3 greats, move for move, and I mean no one!I Man When Hogan would "Back Rake"(scratch)his foe w/ gloves on,you could feel the intense pain he was inflictin
