Actually, after listening to a full version, I can't criticize Ataris of lacking emotion. Both versions are extremely good in different ways. Personally, I probably prefer the original, mainly because I prefer the final guitar solo in Henley's version.

I heard this song being played REALLY LOUD at a Hawaiian shaved ice place called Get Shaved in Torrance, CA while waiting in a HUGE line to get served. Totally dug this version. The argument that the original is better simply because, without it, there would be no cover, is so unfounded it's almost comical. That's like saying Hinduism (the oldest of the major religions) is somehow better than Islam (the youngest). Equally unfounded.
