That article was ridiculous, and it is evident he has a strong bias against Microsoft. Those 140 people had a preconceived idea based on what they heard. They had obviously never saw or used Vista before so how could they have been wrong in the first place? It was never about right or wrong and the participants didnt feel stupid. The participants were made up of 84% Windows XP users, and 22% Apple users, etc. They were shown an OS, and it was all about seeing and deciding for themselves.
why should you have upgraded to XP? why should you have upgraded to ME?
why not just keep windows 3.1.?
thats a silly argument.
The Mojave experiment wasn't to tell ppl they are stupid and that there is nothing wrong with vista....it was too show people the FUD spread about vista. Look at the phrase. TRY FOR YOURSELF, DISCOVER FOR YOURSELF.
Thanks for commenting. I tried Vista Business Edition, and Ultimate. In the end I wiped off my system. Vista is glacial dealing with network shares, MOA2007, CRM 3.0. Using Win7 now...much better.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
wow you hit the nail on the head on that one... mac has been ripping microsoft apart for the past year?? how is that even possible when they are more than doubling mac's sales?? stupid fanboy and u got a little dick
One of the last points I was going to make... I agree, vista doesn't run well on older rigs. However, if I had a 512MB ram, 20GB HD computer, why would I expect a new OS to run well anyway? A new operating system runs well on new rigs, get over it. To run leopard well apple recommends 2GB / ram. You don't hear of people trying to install Leopard on their old clamshell iMacs then complaining about it running slow... it's idiocy.
That's it for now, feel free to reply and argue with me.
Thanks :) If you're referring to the guy in the video.. he did say he's got a modern computer and it still runs slow... frankly I find that hard to believe, since I ran pre-SP1 vista on a computer with lower specs than he has, and desite me running resource-hungry apps, it was never slow. Maybe he's got one too many porn diallers installed ;)
Thanks for you comments. My workstation is a HP a1450n AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ / 2.2 GHz 3 Gig RAM NVidia GT7300 Video Running Vista Ultimate, and no porn dialers. I again state the position it is much slower than XP Pro.
Hmm don't know what happened with my previous part 4. Anyway. Mac don't dote on their audience' stupidity, when they make commercials that show some yuppie bashing a mentally challenged businessman? Instead of maybe... you know... introducing the OS, or something? At least microsoft admit to the fact that their OS isn't perfect, while apple won't back down their "it just works" argument, despite pages and pages of complaints about freezes, kernel panics, overheating, and whatnots.
Frankly I think that's a silly argument. Most people wouldn't even know how to evaluate an OS through anything else other than speed, basic functionality and basic programs. if those run, and the OS looks nice, they'll like it. Christ, many people still think that internet explorer IS the internet, as opposed to just one of many browsers. I don't think the bulk of MS home user clientelle are worried about much beyond outlook and internet explorer and maybe the odd DVD.
The point about showing people the candy is silly; they're showing them exactly what they'll have when they buy it. And installation processes are never nice, so I doubt people would have changed their mind on the "candy" bit had they been made to install it first. Think installing windows sucks? Try installing linux.
About the "treating people like they're stupid" comment... (see part 3)
Where to start... this may need more than one post. First of all I'm not a mac basher or a microsoft hugger; I used both OS's and both have their upsides and their downsides.
Now. About the bad marketing campaign... mojave didn't strike me as bad as all since it didn't end with the message "see we don't suck as much", it ended up with people saying "wow, gotta have it". There's a difference there, and I don't think it's stupid at all how they tied the criticisms into their commercial.
i have to agree with you. while vista is a visual upgrade from xp if it didn't come with my computer i wouldn't have bought it. that said i wouldn't downgrade either. just wish 4x the ram= 4x the speed of the computer. my computer runs 2gb of ram and my xp runs 512mb and they both run at the same speed
Very well said all around. I agree with pretty much every point you made. The things you said about Vista and Microsoft's marketing tactics are spot on. These are things I have been saying for over a year and a half now.
But, that's been proved dozens of times. In the end the issues that exist still exist. I suppose Microsoft really did need to do some counter-advertising against the "Get a Mac" campaign, but counter-characterization and parody would have likely been a better approach, not to mention more cost effective.
I really don't know what else to think of the Mojave experiment given there weren't preset conditions in the first place. All in all, it's a biased opinion influencing another one on camera.2/2
I dunno, while the style of the Mojave experiment definitely leaves a bad taste in my mouth I think there was a sort of objective that was met. Though influenced by company, those who participated in the Mojave experiment openly admitted to liking Vista with the features that are simply there.
That said, the execution is poor and really did strike me as a method to distance Microsoft from any problems that users may genuinely encounter. Did it prove people are prone to preconceptions? Yes. 1/2
whats so bad about an experiment that helps people who openly admit they think a product they've never tried before is not as bad as they thought? I dont like ignorant people & theres too many of them who are so quick to bash Vista yet have never tried it. I think the mojave experiment is good and I feel no sympathy for its "victims" because maybe if they handt let mac commercials tell them how to think in the first place, they wouldnt have ever been "victimized" by an eye opening experiment!
Thank you for your comment. One of the key points of the "experiment" is that this particular group basically watched demo of vista features, rather than upgrading, or installing Vista on there own, and "discovering" thse cool features on their own.
Your observation about the "Get A Mac"campaign makes no sense in context of this discussion. Microsoft is clearly blaming the media, tech pundits, and bloggers for vista's issues, not Mac commercials.
I was not speaking to who or who not is getting blamed by MS. I was talking about how I dont feel sorry for the "victims" of the experiment. You cant tell me that most of if not all of the people interviewed in the experiment didnt let mac commercials cause them to think Vista was terrible. The're exactly the type of people who played right into Mac's advertising. And I gotta give it to Mac for getting so many ignorant people to ignore the possibility that if they tried Vista they might like it.
MS probably got the same dumb ass advertising firm who did the whopper experiment, that kind of advertising is so lame. Clearly for stupid people. the only ones who hate vista are people who get the most of XP. Even you mention lots of software you don't even use. besides i have met not a single person who uses media center. Vista sucks. Mojave sucks.
Don't buy vista, you don't need it, stay with XP aka the best thing windows has done. Allow me to continue my rant...most of these 'good' futures that windows has finally gotten right (elevated privileges and not defaulting to a root account for the average user) have been around FOREVER. And 10 years down the line and many mistakes later they get incorporated and "wow, the security has gotten so much better" but perhaps it was all part of the master plan because look at the culture
and for that matter the money that has been made on so many fronts by putting out software with a policy that has more holes than swiss cheese. Perhaps gates is a true business genius, he is...I wiped my HD clean of vista, and XP on my free computer (replacement through warranty) Vista is pretty but as you have said sir, it lacks features worth spending the money to upgrade. Buy Linux oh wait....buy mac just stop giving money to an evil back stabbing thieving law breaking man. for the kids
Microsoft has done great things, but has become an evil giant, and found guilty of breaking federal laws, albeit white collar stuff on the surface. You don't see the evilness and greed masked by a smiling Bill Gates. Open source is the way of the future, and has a strong foothold. It expands on what microsoft has brought to the marketplace. User friendly and doesn't dilute that operating system to a level where it is obvious the programmers are writing code for morons
Sir, you are absolutely RIGHT! Microsoft should definitely take your review into consideration if they are going to be in business. Granted Vista is a nice OS but it still has bugs. Moreover, I honestly don't see the main features to make the change. They should either A: List the new changes or B: Put in something NEW that no other OS from Mac to Open Source Linux does not have.
I agree, microsoft should have probably taken a different a different advertising approach. Then again, I don't particularly like the mac ads either, with a few exceptions.
