written by Tina Turner's sister, Alline Bullock. the lyrics/core song that is. you gotta give the percussionist and Nina serious props for this radical interpretation!
@DeadBirdCitizen I Tought, heeey.. i need to hear that after seeing the title...Then i saw your comment...PURE AWSOMENESS!!! i love LSD! and i looooove good music, like Nina Simone... The combo of acid and this song...Great thinking mate!! 1200 micrograms and nina simone!! im there!
@DeadBirdCitizen I Tought, heeey.. i need to hear that after seeing the title...Then i saw your comment...PURE AWSOMENESS!!! i love LSD! and i looooove good music, like Nina Simone... The combo of acid and this song...Great thinking mate!! a1200 microgram dose and nina simone!! im there!
fuck - what a cool tune... that rhythm - damn! - what a find... and I don't even know how I got here! Oh yeah, it was via classic blues tunes by Leadbelly etc...
I like Ike and Tina and Nina Simone's takes on this song. The funky drums and percussions are insane on this one and I love Tina's voice, along with the badass bass that accompanies her. I love both versions. I do.
This song is pure hype. It sends this indescribable feeling that makes you want to dance so bad. Doing homework with this on is NOT a good idea. The break on here is ridiculous.
i thought i'd never find this song again after i lost my albums! it's kind of hard to find it when you can't remember the words, or what album it was on, & all you have stuck in your head to work with are those wonderful drums, lol.
The song was originally created by Aileen Bullock, Ana Mae Bullock famously known as Tina Turner's sister. I suspect that the song was written to describe Ike Turner.
she was so talented ... she could sing somthing as heart felt as wild is wind or lilac wine .. then flip it on you and get SUPER FUNKY ! ... she is the queen of rhythm !
I hear this song differently now. It's like her soul addressing the old worn out mind dominated state of consciousness within her and all of us. The mind struggles to keep up with the soul. I know im reading too much into this powerful song. ...... ok im done now.
That rhythm gets under the skin - it itches and hassles like that old mosquito bite she's singing about. Can't help but jiggle with the thrum of it. Great performance!!!
The funkiest track ever recorded in my opinion. Makes ya wanna grab a drum and go nuts! I love this side of Nina and the way she sings "aaaaalllllways rapping bout the same old thing" and the BEATS immediately after are supreme!
Tweeter can desribe a sound or a pinch. So in this case, Mosquito's tweeter is a pinch/bite from a mosquito. And "funkier than mosquito's tweeter" means she's describing the man as unpleasant as a mosquito bite.
when i first heard this i didn't know it was Simone and thought it was a bloke with a funny voice singing, no offence of course cause I hadn't known of Nina until then I love her voice and this song
@WERTY123 You're kidding right? In Tina's recording its so poppy and overdone the song itself is overlooked.
"Tina Turner's voice is much more suited for this song". Yeah Turner has excellent vocal clarity but her version sounds too upbeat and fun. That's obviously not what Nina is going for. Tina couldn't capture the funky heartbreaking vocals that Nina gets. If you're into showy Broadway performances, by all means keep listening to Tina Turner, but don't be dis'in on mah Nina Simone.
WERTY123 you have missed the point of Nina's version and indeed music at the time altogether: in the 70s there were many black artists (soul, jazz, blues, etc) that would make a great record; other artists would do not just a simple "cover version" but their own unique take of the original, expanding the original music and lyric to a newer dimension, just as Nina has eloquently executed here. And remember that Ike & Tina did many hot versions of others songs, too, even scoring hits with them.
That line "always rapping bout the same old thang" would be a good sample. But, since all the rappers rap about the same thing I guess no one would use it. This song is slammin'
Nina is was and always will be the best!!!

Tina Turner's voice is much more suited to this song and complented by Ike's base guitar.
