It's probably given a stretch the Director knew about Lavos given their technological level and the fact Lavos had been screwing around in key historical events. It wouldn't surprise me even if the Director probably knew about Lavos all along through gathered info but kept quiet about it knowing the end was nigh and that they still were ultimately helpless anyway.

@Cookeryoshi it starts out like every other rpg, the characters being completely oblivious to the threat, then you end up fighting lavos and killing it. even though i don't know how, since it controlled time and harvested the dna out of every life form on the planet, it became the most powerful thing to exist. it was even more powerful than a god. next to sephiroth/kefka, lavos is the best and most powerful villain in the rpg business.

@KopperNeoman lavos was pretty annoying too, you fought it 3 times, (about 5 times throughout the whole game) and the main character ends up dying, but lavos's 3rd form was hard, since it had three parts and two parts were immune to any kind of damage, and if you kill one of them, it just spawns another one, over and fucking over.

@lastblade3 If I remember correctly, when you're in Ayla's timeline, right after you beat what's-his-face (Azala or something?) and Black Tyranno, the party will see a shooting star and it crashes into the Reptite place (After the gang left of course) and destroys the place. Ayla was the one who named Lavos. So, it's been around since Ayla's time. That's how it's been able to gather all the dna and more or less helped people in the game evolved or rather, go insane in the case of Queen Zeal.

@XerastheBeras I knew that already. They were practically oblivious to the threat, since at the end of the game, right before fighting the core, they had just found out it was absorbing all the dna from the beings on the planet. It did help people by giving them fire and all, but yes, it also was very bad for the people, as it was sucking the life force out of the planet. Also, I say, fuck Sephiroth and Kefka, Lavos destroyed the world by FUCKING SITTING THERE.

This game doesn't just let you lose. This game makes you FEEL BAD. It makes you feel like you let down the entire earth and it's destroyed because you had to be an idiot and rush in to fight Lavos ASAP.

Wow this game insults, it's like not only didn't you beat the final boss, now you see the world end you dumb fuck. Sorta reminds me of if any of you have played Tekken 5, when you get up to Jinpachi but lose to him and choose not to continue you get that FMV of him destroying the world, pretty fucking scary.
