Israel retaliated by invading Gaza, destroying numerous historical sites and killing many innocent civilians, including women and children. They still have presence in the air in Gaza with their planes. Gaza is basically a huge PRISON that is run by Israel. They don't occupy the cells, but they control the entrances to the prison, and how much goods the inmates can receive.

Hamas is the only group that legitimately represents the people of Palestine, if the US or Israel were ever serious about a 2state solution we would've talked to them from the beginning, but Israel just wants an excuse to continue the genocide. Just look at the last ceasefire - Israel broke it by attacking Gaza on Nov. 4th and even before, they never complied with lifting the blockade, they just intensified it. Israel commits terrorism everyday. They target civilians on purpose. Israel has the 4th largest military in the world, the Palestinians have homemade rockets. Yes, since 2004, 24 Israelis were killed by rockets, that is tragic, but in the same time 5,000 Palestinians were killed, mostly women and children. That is pogrom (genocide). Barely any electricity, no food, medical supplies or water. They even destroyed a UN building that they admited had no militants in it, check the facts.

But is Hamas willing to compromise? Last I checked they were trying to grind this conflict down to the bitter end. Peace is not the Hamas agenda. If they were to accept peace it would be to rearm and retrain and it would be a cynically motivated event and only short term. Hamas has claimed a truce many times, while doing exactly the opposite of what a good government does during a truce. Make no mistake, these guys are not fucking around. And that's not what I was saying.
My point was that Hamas wants to fight to the death and no amount of peace treaties is going to change that. A 10 year truce would just be the same conflict, in 10 years. Hamas always uses the peace to rearm and retrain and go right back at it. When you love martyrdom Hamas it's not a question of IF, but WHEN.
