ok my question is when u build these how do u know if mason bees will go in there what if a wasp or honey bees or spiders move in there instead? O i live in utah norther utah and i am just wondering
@soxnes Generally speaking they aren't built just for mason bees. Native wasp populations are also encouraged. Because they are not of a communal species, they are way less likely to sting. Don't worry about it, they are great pest predators.
Hi, Can you tell me the size of the mason bee nesting holes, and the drill bit size? I have just completed a mason bee house with transparent tubes, but the size looks way too big. The book I have also bought tells me they cannot use larger size holes.
I used parchment paper, rolled up a piece about 5 inches long and the width of the depth of the holes. You can buy commercial liners at a bird seed store or garden store.

IMHO this is the best style of mason bee house, with instructions.

How big should the holes be for the aphid eater block? Do we have any in Phoenix, AZ?

Use a brad point bit, 3/8 inch. After the liner is inserted, they will be close to 5/16 inch.

Exactly two minutes of banal commercials beforehand! As one cynic spotting another, it doesn't give me that warm fuzzy feeling.
In saying the guys come good with their explanation of wood-drilled solitary bee towers.
