Didn't know anything about the movie before renting it on iTunes -- after watching it, I bought it. Excellent movie. Sure there are cliche's -- but what movie doesn't have them. However, no over-writing, no over-directing, no over-acting -- just a damn well crafted work. Lots of metaphors in this movie including the premise, Moby Dick and final fight -- it is not to be taken literally. The marine does not lose -- he, his brother, and their father earn redemption. Damn good movie.

Excellent movie. Similar to the Rocky movie in theme but superior in it's numerous complex story lines, character development and fight scenes. More sophisticated than other fight films, far more intense. It doesn't get better than this.

Its not all the Rocky rolled into one! Saw it last night - 4/10 - pretty boring and shit. And thats coming from a huge MMA fan. Cameos from Natt Marquart and Tom Hardy stole the show (even with a crappy american accent!). 2 seconds of Rashad Evans footage. All the camera angles were just close ups of faces - 80% of the time. Shit cinematography!

It is an old formula movie ... but damned that this one works and is way above its predecessors. Never a dull moment and the best ending have seen for this kind of movie. Flawless acting, touching story and exhilarating fights. One of the best movie of 2011. I will go see it again so Go see it ! It deserve it because of the outstanding work the creators and actors have done here. Such a relief from the crap we got all summer long at the movies.

The fact that the 2 brothers are fighting each other for the championship isn't exactly a spoiler. You know Directors will do something like that. The Movie itself was simply AMAZING. What you see in the trailer is only 10% of what you see in the whole movie. I won't spoil how it ended and who won. You guys gotta watch the whole movie to appreciate it. This movie is on the same caliber as Rocky and Raging Bull. Don't believe me go see it yourself

im pretty sure this is about the Matt Hughs and his brother just different story. Matt Hughs and his brother grew up on a farm and they both wanted to fight but one had to stay back with their dad and help on the farm so they had to fight each other to see who could chase their dream of being a fighter. obliviously its a different story line but i think its what the movie is based off of.
