  • you can see how bent the rollcage is after that during the onboard shot

  • Voom. Voom Voom Voom, Voom, Voom Voom, Voo-wait, WHAT?!

That was my reaction to the start of this video, before we cut away from the camera in the ground.... XD

  • 0:09 going sideways LIKE A BOSS !

  • I remember this. Fabian is so lucky to be alive.

  • 1:39

  • That shows how disasterous a tire failure can be.

Take care of your tires everyday...

  • @ursuss100 Well getting rear ended on the starting grid probably didn't help

  • @ThatAdelaideGuy yeah I heard he got touched by another car at the start and that this tyre's valve was damaged in the process.

  • roll cage ftw

  • he had contact with bargwana and it tore the valve steam off

  • Comment removed

  • If this was 20 years ago, he probably wouldn't get out of that alive, to see him WALK away from that is just bloody amazing.

  • I think when he got out of his car he didn´t know what really happened with him 30 seconds ago.

  • Safety FTW!

  • Maybe next year he'll make it to lap 2 lol

  • the car hit that little patch of grass which probably made it jump a little then dig into the sand on the other side, flipping it over.

    love,

    captain obvioius

  • @C0LL1N actually this was due to contact at the start of the race off the line. There was damage to the rear left of the car that caused a blowout just b4 the dogleg.

  • Fabian Coulthard Had a NASCAR like Crash!

  • Gets out and gives a thumb up... good shunt

  • craig bairds like FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK YOU now you have blown my chance dick!

  • now theyve gotta re-groom all that sand

  • This version is much better - TimHar62 - really cool

  • Checj out my footage of it. i was right in front of this!!

  • i was right at the wall there when that happened, the whole crowd was in shock.

  • lmao at the commentator "that was Bargwanna, that was bargwanna" "No its not IM SORRY *JEEZ*" sounds like he got *are you srs?* face from the entire tv crew

  • Always love watching the start of Bathurst this was no exception.

  • he came to my school mbis he is so cool

  • @gizmo881000 murrays bay intermediate?

  • that was a nasty tire failure and a nasty crash...incredibly lucky to escape that uninjured...

  • Walks off!!! What a hardass!

  • @ststephen909 yea, he's from New Zealand

  • @ststephen909 Crazy haha.

  • @ststephen909 *Walks off* *thinks to self* "FUCK YEAH"

  • i was at the chase, man all u saw was the dust being kicked up as well as red and black pieces flying everywhere

  • If that happened along Mountain Straight....

  • damn.................

  • suspension and tyre) [*weight] so when the car was going around right hand bends, the suspension was going down, and because the panel had been dented, the panel rubbed on the tyre, this went on for the whole lap, and then when it got to 'The Chase', the tyre was a little worn down, and it was under a lot of pressure, also most of the car was pressuring down on that corner. And the panel was rubbing. So the tyre blew out and caused this spectacular crash (read comment below before this one).

  • @AlgonquinCelebrity96 wrong. They showed that the contact he had at the start of the race bent the tire valve causing it to leak and deflate the tire.

  • @zookyguy fair-o, i was just saying what the commentators had briefly mentioned as being a possible cause later in the broadcast, but your suggestion seems right. where was your source, as 'they' really doesn't count

  • @AlgonquinCelebrity96 mid way through the race feed the pit commentator showed the rim off of the car and confirmed that it was a $1.50 tire valve that had been the cause of the deflation. they also showed the scuff to the rim showing the valve damage happined during the contact at the start of the race.

  • @zookyguy thanks, good old Larko doing his job

  • Someone (can't remember who, may or one of the GRM cars have been D'Alberto) stalled at the start, Jason Bargwanna was behind them, he slowed down, Fabian Coulthard was behind him when he slowed down, but intead of slowing down Fabian went around the outside, just as Jason was pulling out from behind the stalled car. So Bargwanna clipped the back of Coulthard, causing the panel to rup against the tyre at full load (when there is a lot, if not most of the wait on that corner of the car, i.e.:

  • i like the big fat guy on the billboard at 0:01

  • See timhar62 for the best amateur video of Coultard's barrell roll - awesome angle, very close and gives a much better perspective of the speed.

  • I bet his ar$e was singing opera on that one!

  • 6 times over! wow!

  • i was there it was in front of me

  • Left-rear tire blowout.

  • @AccordGTR coz he tapped todd kelly on the start line

  • @FridayNightLego huh? how did that affect his rear tire??

  • @AccordGTR coz when they hit the tyre was hit so it caused it to blow apart like it did im sure you can find footage of it

  • My own footage of it standing on a wheely bin 1 minute before the crash for a different angle as seen on tv , reasonable footage , in my youtube account @ Leeschwarzenberg !!! Its worth a look .

  • Lap 1 lmao

  • @Mk2ification Turn 2 aswell lol poor guy

  • @Mk2ification He suffered a blowout at almost 300km/h. Scary shit isn't it?

  • @Mk2ification

    drive better

  • @Mk2ification

    drive better

  • If u look very closey. The lear rear tired exploded.

  • rollovers are generally one of the safer ways to crash (in a car with a cage anyway) because the energy is dispersed gradually...it's the crashes where the car stops suddenly, that are usually less spectacular that are generally fatal..

  • how could he live

  • @TheDabomb44 the roll cage mate, it saved him

  • Neil Crompton and Greg Rust (One HD commentator) should be a married couple both of them are as useful as a japanese robot toy...hell at least the robot would get a call right, but due credit to crompo at least he apologizes for stuffing up Greg Rust blames it on the TV crew or his computer.

Get them off of motor sport commentating!

  • @Icey909 what i suppose you want bruce macovany! you knob!

  • @gpartrt I would prefer someone like Martin Brundle or Ted Kravitz from BBC Racing you redneck hick ;)

  • @Icey909 so international commentators for a great AUSTRALIAN sport! good idea your a discrace to your own country!

  • @gpartrt At least they can get the call right in motorsport...unfortunately Ray Warren doesn't par take in motor sport oh also sunshine Former Formula 1 Champion Alan Jones (Australian for your pea sized brain) commented several times saying Australian motorsport commentators are out of touch and have a poor source of knowledge when it comes to motor sport. So for a champion to actually see flaws that your tiny brain can't seem to comprehend you fall under a brain dead yuppy generation.

  • @Icey909 your a discrace!!did i stutter??

  • @gpartrt don't let the door hit you on the way out ;) i am finished on this video haha enjoy everyone else, very good driving today sunshine coast Whincup vs Van Gisenburg

  • @Icey909 Grow up you nimwit! Everyone makes mistakes. I've seen your beloved BBC crew team make mistakes and not apologise for it. In any case, you want commentators who KNOW the sport from experience. Why Martin Brundle is a good F1 commentator is cause he drove in the sport for 10 years. Neil Crompton drove V8's for a long time, he's knows the cars and the tracks better than most. At full speed it can be hard to tell exactly what happened-cars with similar liveries, hence the initial mistake

  • @stephen2988 Stephen...i said and i quote again "but due credit to crompo at least he apologizes for stuffing up" he has driven in the motorsport...but Greg Rust? please...mate...he giggles like a fag, he hiccups when in a stressed position even when he tried to interview Bernie Ecclestone for the 2010 Melbourne GP it was like he was going to piss his pants.

Atleast Crompo would have a go at him, at the heat of the moment he jumped a bit too quick to this incident...my focus is purely Greg Rust

  • @Icey909 Do you realise the guy that made the call is a former racer with various Bathurst races right? he knows more about that type of racing then almost anyone on the god damn planet.

  • @gpartrt With the level and amount of international drivers coming in it wouldn't be a dumb idea. They did it for the Gold Coast race, shit in cricket we have a pom and saffer commentating!

  • he need a lotto tix

  • the car exploded haha when i seen the tire blow i wa like oh shit, and the tire ha to blow right on conrod straight haha bad luck

  • Gotta love the V8 Supercars. Have a look at this crash on the first lap of the 2010 Bathurst 1000.

  • lol love his comment after it happened. he knew the car was in bad shape "when I got out of the car without having to open a door".

  • I was at the Chase and saw this crash...Makes me appreciate the awesome safety features of these cars, because when I was watching this car disintegrate in front of me at the speed it was going, I really thought that the driver was a dead man. When it came to rest I could see the cage had held up, and thought to myself that he was going to be hurt, but should be alive - Then the driver got out, walked away and waved to the crowd!! Eerie silence turned to raptures of applause - AMAZING STUFF!!

  • Errr your all idiots. It would have been very easy for Crompton to mistake the car for Bargwanna's, they are very similar in colour, especially when the car flashes over the road cam at 300km/h

  • @perhapsthebestsamuel And they were very close at the time as well.

  • Comment removed

  • Now this is why I love V8 Supercars, ya can have the excitement of such an amazing rollover and have the safety to keep the driver safe. Amazing stuff

  • Is it weird that i could see that it was a bundy car and that the wheel was fucked when that happened live?I was like jeez commentators get it right.

  • bundy red racing - showing drunk drivers everywhere how its done.

  • GO HOLDEN!!!!!!!

  • i was in the westtrack tent right in front of me

  • My suzuki would be flipping straight from when the tyre blew lol

  • I was sitting at the chase and saw it was very frightening

  • that was bargwana, that was bargwana ... oh sorry no its not

  • and then he gets out like he just parked the car at the local servo

  • hmmm sponsered by bundy, he mite have had a few shots be for driving, they should put him on the breatho, great race thou, awesome watching besnard and lowndes fight it out 4 about 5 laps, even thou im a ford supporter still enjoyed bathurst, great that coulthard could walk away from a massive crash like that, it all started when his tyre got hit at start of race

  • @bones111987 u think you're funny?

  • @1suns31 what?

  • I watched it happen and started laughing when i saw him sideways but just went silent when he started flipping. the roll cage did it's job well. turns out Coulthard and someone else collided right at the begging and it made the tyre rip apart.

  • Light weight doors are just hooked over a set of pins so they will come off easily. Its the cage that provides all the protection and the bodyshell is built around the cage rather than the cage built in the car.. By the look of it the cage was hardly touched, all the energy was disipated in rolling through the kitty litter lol A good vet would have that on its feet in a few weeks :)

  • Was surprised all the Holdens didn't have Chevy badges on them, See so many cockheads doing that these days.

If you are going to(God forbid) drive a Holden, leave it as a Holden please.

  • LOL! the back door came off before it even rolled, what a piece of shit!

  • @krashdown102 lol when the left rear blew it went with such force it damaged the body work. The door came off when the car spun 180deg and the air caught it at 270kmh. Every part of a car that comes away in a crash takes some of the energy of the crash with it, so I say good job it came off.

  • @zookyguy yeah your right at 1:38 you can see that the whole rear wheel well is stuffed and the door has a dint in the side of it (i dunno if this happened before) but anyway i like to believe that new cars are made to break so they adsorb energy in a crash to protect the person inside.

I'm talking more about normal cars with that though and i wouldn't exactly call these cars holdens and fords anymore even though they look the same.

i liked it in the 70s when the stock cars raced x-( oh well

  • incidently will that car race again? i know it tore to shreds but how much chasis damge was done?

  • Anyway, to the crash: nasty, nasty, nasty accident. If you pause it at the right time at 0:09 or 0:10 you'll see the door and the panel where the fuel tank is literally ripping apart even before he's even 90 degrees around.

That has to be probably the worst accident seen at Mount Panorama considering the position and the speed. Yes there have been deaths over the years (RIP Bergmann and Porter) but it's a testament to the safety of these cars nowadays that people can survive these accidents.

  • Suck shit holden

  • @stanfrodo lol lol too bad they dominated.

  • @stanfrodo Holden 1-2-3-4 2009 AND 2010

    Suck shit Ford.

  • holden: 19 cars

    Ford: 10

careful when you say "suck shit" mate.
