Theres no such thing as saving a car. It could have very little fire damge and the insurance company will total it. The public always seems to think the minute they dial 911 we are on our way. I takes 1-2 minutes for them to dispatch us and then another 4-5 to get to the scene.

The explosion was not either a gas tank or a tire, tires blow down and out from the bottom of a car. Most likely that was the compressed air cylinder from the airbag which is usually housed in the steering column.

ummmm that was not the gas tank. gas tanks do not explode when there is gas in them. that was a tire.when a car becomes fully involved the fire has to reach the gas tank and then after prolonged heat it melts and the gas pours out and catches fire but no explosions.

It may have been a Firebird once, but it's a fireball now! Our almost brand new station wagon burned to a crisp back in 1990 or 1991, and it's not a pleasant experience for sure. It would have cost more to repair than replace it, so we just got another. Thank god for insurance, hope that kid has it!

Actually the fuel tank did NOT explode, ( NO BLUE FLAME OR VIOLENT FLAME UP UNDER THE CAR ) I would guess that "POP" was either the heater core OR an air bag. Most air bags flash WHITE sparks when deploying in a fire.

A heater core will "POP" when it gets hot enough & the pressure builds.
