  • 0:33 the epic MULTI-CHOICE.

  • Dolphins are pretty flippin' intelligent. I hope that we decode dolphin language someday, that'd be so cool...unless they're just insulting me.

  • holy shit...amazing

  • wow!

  • i wish that was my life!

  • I couldn't help myself, but as I watched the entire video, I started to sob like a baby. I wasn't expecting such a reaction on my part. But it shows the love I feel for these four incredible individuals (the 4 dolphins that lived at this facility).

  • OMG... I can't believe I found KBMML videos! Thank you so much for posting these videos. I used to be a volunteer trainer at this facility for 5 years :) I still mourn all four dolphins: Akeakamai, Phoenix, Elele and Hiapo.

  • dolphins are awesome

  • Akea was the best--the smartest, the sweetest...and we miss her...

  • Beautiful animals.

  • They are so cute! I wish I had one in my room! :P

  • why dont they ask him if hes happy with all the questions they are asking him.

  • Akeakamai 's highly intelligent/creative response is just amazing. Better than a lot of humans would do. At least the equivalent of a 5 or 6 year old child!!

In areas which are different to our way of thinking/cognitive structures it is not easy to understand how the minds of other intelligent species work, what their strengths are & what their limitations are. Isn't understanding their intelligence, in some way, (almost ironically) a measure of our own intelligence & mental flexibility?

  • 0.16 - dolphin pays attention to man. look at its little face! lol

  • But can she explain string theory to us?

  • hi anyone want to chat

    just moved new area uz

  • HAhah, this was an awesome video. But hey speknovik, that comment was uncalled for. Do you honestly think avg. Americans can do anything about their disenfranchised situation? If you're propagandized from a young age, only the wisest can interpret what is behind the curtain, and dolphins can too :)

  • its difficult to blame americans for their ignorance because there are many factors involved, but its not so difficult to blame them for their complete lack of effort

  • americans are almost as intelligent as dolphins

  • hahahahaha

  • they dont even come close if you ask me ;p

  • key word Almost? lol

  • thoughtful of you to say so, but that would have to be proved and sorry there is little evidence to support your claim.

  • @mullacy2 even as an American myself , I have to agree.

  • @mullacy2 Hey!!!! I'm an American, and I resemble that!!!! ;-)

  • @mullacy2 Hey don't make fun of US...get it, US. Wasn't funny? that's ok.

  • @mullacy2 Not much of an insult really, since it's debatable which species is more intelligent. If humans really do have superior intelligence, then what you said is probably sad but true...except you forgot the word 'average'.

  • how were they they taught what the yes and no paddles mean in the first place?

  • signm language like they say yes nd show them it then say no nd show them it nd they prob kno

  • @amarnamriju Yeah, how did this all happen? It's amazing, and interesting.

  • @amarnamriju probably a form of operant conditioning

  • @weirds0up Great question. Cognitive work is set up to specifically exclude op.cond. (as well as random chance & inadvertent cueing). By the time this video was made, yes the animal was familiar with the stimuli. However the published result was based entirely on the animal's 1st-time exposure to each stimulus, ie operant conditioning can't explain the result. (The animal learned procedures w/another set of named objects where op.cond. is possible explanation, then was tested with new objects.)

  • they're smarter then me!! LOL

  • Thank you for this footage of the late, great Akeakamai, who was an inspiration to many!

  • Dolphins are amazing!!! AWESOME VIDEO!

  • they are almost as intellingent as americans

  • They're so cute and smart

  • I love it

  • smart...do dolphins have the own language just as good a human

  • Probably not as good as humans but they certainly have high level language that's deep enough for them to give more complex commands and requests than shown in the vid aswell to give each other a sort of first name and last name system - Individual first names and last names that correspond to the pod they belong to....

  • im pretty sure that its that individual pods of orcas have certain dialects. And the naming system is because each bottle nose dolphin has an individual whistle., which is used by other dolphins to call it. Not so much a name, more of a relationship betwen sound and dolphin.

  • A name is a relationship between sound and individual.

  • Ya.... That's called a name

  • newyork, there has been more evidence Bees, elephants etc have a language before all the hype about dolphins. And, if people are adament about dolphins having a language, then ALL other animals should also be recognised as having a language of their own.

  • @thestarduster don't think it's just a matter of language but how they can so easily learn our language (or the language we want to communicate with) and then reason - actually apply analysis & come up w/ solution. The dolphin came up w/ a solution to the "stumper" qustion - the dolphin thought up an answer that scientists hadn't even thought of!

    hehe. yeah mon.

  • This month's National Geographic magazine (March 2008) brings an article about animal intelligence and they talk about the experiments done with Akeakamai, Phoenix, Elele and Hiapo.

    It's a must read!!!!

And thanks lot for this video!

  • Thanks for putting this up.

  • This brought a big grin to my face! Dolphins are such wonderful creatures, and I'm always amazed by how intelligent they are.

  • Elephants can also understand syntax. And, there are over 40 different species of dolphin and dolphins are not equally intelligent. Only Orca, Pilot whales and Bottlenose dolphins actually live up to the public perception of intelligence.

  • i saw a picture of their brains and they are large and more wrinkled than the human brain by a large amount, that dolphin is probably feeling like the main character in the movie idiocracy
