  • Good job. I'm sold.

  • I pissed around with a bow type fire drill and it took forever to get a smoldering ember. Any tips? I'd heard that it could be done just by hand but I never realized it could be done in less than 20 seconds.

  • @WRWhizard The best tip I could give is be meticulous with your set up. The smallest shortcut can ruin any chance of success. I started practicing doing at least 4 coals a day for weeks, and even now I still sometimes outright fail.

  • Just wonder you used the chopsticks all the time but eat wait your fork?

  • @dirtypp To be honest, I had just eaten before making the video. I grabbed the fork without thinking for presentation.

  • @dirtypp just some cheap metal chopsticks I got at the asian grocery store.

  • what kind of chop sticks?

  • What kind of machette are you using in this video, it looks very familiar?

  • 7:19 If you mixed a omelet at home you might as well have cooked it too.

  • @newtubetubetube cold runny eggs a day into a trip is not appetizing. The idea is to mix the omelet, freeze it, then cook it a day or to later.

  • Where did you get that machete? It looks to be Damascus steel.

  • Mann who is that fat camera man. I would be afraid that the smell of his body fat would attract bears.

  • I often wonder where all these douche bags come from... Hey MAKAOFA... where are you from?

  • @josiewales44 Don't worry, it's my brother, the camera man, looking to get a laugh. :)

  • what kind of wood do you use to make the hand drill? thx, good stove.

  • @naturaltherapist I use Yucca on Yucca. Often the same flower stalk for both the drill and hearth. Easiest wood combination I've found.

  • I just received my stove today. Works really well. I'm happy. Thanks to the maker for processing my order so quickly.

  • @SoundPath My pleasure.

  • Question is it safe to cook in those bags? Do you think it releases toxins in the food?? Is that a boil bag?? THX for your vids i learned a lot. THX

  • @shippen2010 I've heard that there may be a danger of some sort of chemicals getting into your food from the heat. However I seldom eat like this, so any exposure is negligible in my opinion. There are bags made for boiling that are supposed to be completely inert in high temps. I'm not a doctor nor do I play one on tv. Besides the extra nipple growing under my arm and the constant ringing in my ears, I've suffered no ill effects.

  • @nwmanitou I guess moderation I like you stove

  • @shippen2010 Thank you very much. check out freezer bag cooking dot com. It's an entire system centered around cooking in bags. I think the chemical thing is more hysteria than actual risk.

  • cool stove i want one good idea

  • Being basically a lazy camper, I love the way you don't have to keep feeding the stove. Can you feed the vargo woodstove in the same way or are you limited to feeding it little sticks? Anyone know? With much appreciation...Laurie

  • @LoveRise well, I've never handled a vargo stove so I can't say for sure. What I can say is that my previous designs had holes in the base much like the vargo. I found that the air intakes positioned around the sides worked much better with this feed method in my tests.

  • Hey, I know it's not even out to public yet, but just have to say, I love the little cup adapter you made for guys like me who use the Stainless Steel cups. That adapter is killer man, it is so dang light, and the way you made it, it makes the stove even stronger than it already is, how it locks in to the corners, great idea!!

  • This is really a neat little stove. I've put your website/video on a Preparedness site I'm a member of. Ordering one tonight!

  • @pattybbb1 much appreciated

  • Amazing stove. Alan Bierhoff sent me your link. I am really impressed with the neatness of design and the heat it seems to generate.

  • Great stoves , just a pity i cant find any in the UK.

  • @Smegger There are a few over there. I just sent a batch off for a group buy. Get some friends together and I'll be able to combine shipping for ya.

  • I should have got one from you at EOTW

  • @paleo52 it's all good, get me your addy and I'll have one for ya.

  • GOT MINE today (10/3/11). I feel like a kid playing with a new toy on Christmas morning. The construction and fit is more solid they you would think for a tool-less design , it easily fires right up using a 1 piece of paper towel, and cooks beautifully with my 9 inch cast iron skillet. I am totally impressed. It will definitely replace the liquid gas pack stove in my dual-sport motorcycle camping kit. I give it a 5 out of 5.

  • Is that omelette in a "regular" (store brand?) double-zip freezer bag ?

    ... or ... is is dome "special" hi-temp "boil-in-bag" ?

  • @phrankus2009 Just a regular double zip freezer bag. So long as the bag remains under the water it won't go over 212 deg. I imagine if I kept it in there at a rolling boil for an good long time the plastic may get soft enough to rupture. But I only leave it in long enough to cook the egg.

  • Thank You. VERY impressive little stove! I'm sold...Larry

  • have you ever tried to cook a meal in the kettle, if so how was the clean up. is it easy.

  • @1swampwalker so far I've only boiled water or made tea in it, and of course the omeletes. I use a lot of dehydrated food. I do have it as my only cook pot, and I do intend to cook rice with it. The top is large, the sides aren't too steep, and the bottom rim is curved. The stainless steel cleans up real nice so long as you can get a scrubbing pad in there. In theory it should be just fine as a cook pot. But i'll have to actually use it as such.

  • What kettle is that being used in the video?

  • @Nervjiggy It's a GSI Glacier Kettle. They also have one made of anodized aluminum called the Haulite Kettle. they are awesome.

  • You sold me. I have several Rocket Stoves but none capable of throwing in a backpack. This will be great! I just went to their site and ordered mine.

    Thanks

  • @TBFMT thank you very much.

  • Would you recommend using a gsi frying pan with this stove?

  • @gowdaflow Well, if you can put it on your gas stove I be it'll work fine on the emberlit. Just be ware that the Emberlit will eventually deposit soot on your cookware. that is just hte nature of wood fires.

  • That is one amazing little stove. Great design and functionality. You know, Im undecided between getting the gsi bogaboo because the set brings a frying pan as well, or getting the gsi tea pot you have on this video..

  • I am impressed! Heading off to TSP to get one.

  • @patriotparalegal Very Much appreciated.

  • Nice design. I'd like it better if it had some holes on the burn plate and less holes on the side. I'm waiting for some one to build one like yours but with double inner walls to gasify as well. If someone made a folding gasifier, it would sell like hot cakes.

  • @MrJoeyBoombotz Thanks for the comment, but out of curiosity.. why would you want holes on the burn plate and less on the sides?

  • Very nice, great video too. I'm awaiting mine in the mail now... I have a question though -- where did you get that awesome little pot? I've been trying to find a nice simple pot with a lid and a bail for ages and have nothing to show for it...

  • @aethertap Ah, the pot is a GSI Kettle. They have it in both Anodized aluminun (haulite) and stainless (glacier). It really works well for me.

  • the omelet looks good, did you freeze it first. you should come up with some bushcraft recipes. im sick of freeze dried.

  • @1swampwalker I usually freeze the omelet and have it the second morning on the trail. Lately I've been wanting to see how well Biltong would be for a trail food.

  • Have one. Great stoves and well worth the $

  • great stuff bro

I just purchased one I'll be waiting for it to arrive :)

  • Great review! I am getting one for sure. Where on earth did you get that Damascus machete? I WANT!!!

  • @celticwarrior916 Oh, hehe, well, that's just an ontario machete I polished then stained with mustard to make the pattern.

  • you should try putting a buddy burner in there. no need to get fire wood then, and it would burn consistently.

  • @ChemicalMikeUK I bet a buddy burner would work very well in there. But the downside would be carrying the buddy burner. Wood is abundant where I am. I can see situations where the buddy burner in the emberlit would be very convenient though. Thanks for the suggestion.

  • Awesome job on the stove and video. Where did you tape this at. It looks like the high desert of Northern Arizona?

    Walter

  • @wpick Almost... just a bit farther north in Utah.

  • the whole time i was watching it i was thinking this would be great for the zombie Apocalypse!

  • @panthersecks I'll be camped out on the roof of a fortified Costco, bustin zombies and cooking bacon.

  • wow. you made firelighting look too easy! ;)

    nice job. great vid!

  • Awesome job Bro! I think this is a great small burner.. Can't wait to get one! Blessings

  • what kind of wood do you use for your hand drill??

  • @golfer1555 I used the dead flower stalk from the Yucca plant. I made the drill and board from the same stalk.

  • the only problem, or should I say dislike is that your hands are all covered with black soot. other than that it looks great.

  • @jimbtabor You are right. My stove was heavily used, not cleaned, and that was I think the 4th or 5th take assembling it. But yeah, fire = soot. Though I don't mind it. Thanks for the comments.

  • this is just the neatest thing, ever since it was first shown to me via TSP chat.

But also ... the way you killed 2 birds with one stone ... re the food & hot chocolate.

BRILLIANT! and if all that weren't enough ... the way you started the fire and how FAST you got it going! Nice work altogether man.

  • @DesertDood Awe man.. you are making me blush!

  • Awesome video and product. I really enjoy your videos and post on BCUSA. I ordered my stove tonight! Can't wait. See you on BCUSA.

  • Thank you. This is a nicely made, practical, video that demonstrates this new stove well.

I'd love to see it [also] using alcohol and Esbit as effectively.

  • @aeronmb That is in the plans. I'll use my alcohol stove and some trioxane fuel tabs

  • I ordered mine as soon as the website came up...very impressive!

As for the heavy breathing, it comes with the stove porn territory.;)

  • That's a real nice stove.it was good to meet you at EOTW

  • Nice! Gotta get one and try that omelet trick. Thanks!

  • plenty of good ideas in this video, thanks for sharing them with us.

  • Ordered mine yesterday. Looks great. Nice design. Have you tried making any with more air holes around the sides or bottom?

  • @gryphon50 Yup, some of my earlier designs had holes in the bottom and long slots on the sides. But it didn't burn as efficiently. The current ratio of the intake hole surface area to the exhaust vents works very well to maintain a steady flame.

  • Mmm, bacon... Looks like a great little stove, Mikhail. Feeding it looks much easier than something like the Vargo Hexagon (which loses some of it's stability when the door is open) or the bush buddy (have to feed under your pot - and you're bang on with the yo-yo comment too, by the way).

  • the fire spout lokks like a better stove

  • @joc1274 Just looked at the fire spout. I think it's a very nice design.

  • Hey, maethor here from bladeforums. Great little stove, and very impressive hand drill technique. I'll subscribe, in case you put any more videos about it up! Thank you!

  • the breathing annoyed the shit out of me.

  • @flash2591 You and me both. My camera has a real tendency to pick up breathing. Even at arms length.

  • @nwmanitou still good video though

  • Looks like a great woodburner! It's hard to improve on the basic Hobo design, but this stove seems to have done it, aside from cost. The major disadvantage of a hobo stove is storing, transporting, and cleaning. I get sut all over everything! This new stove looks easy to clean and pack, I'm sold on the idea and might just pick one up!

  • @IHatchetJack Thanks man I appreciate it. Yeah, see that little rag on my leg? I use that to wipe the soot off the stove. So it will be a little sooty, all wood burning stoves are, but that's part of the fun. hehe. You are right, hobo stoves are very simple concepts. The turning point for me was when my fancy design didn't work as well as a soup can with holes in it. So it was back to the drawing board to make it simple and efficient.

  • Nice looking breakfast.

  • @rfanimation you know you want some.

  • Great video. I have a vargo wood stove, but this looks better. Will probably pick one up.

  • Where are you camping at? Looks beautiful.

  • @GotYarbles Honestly, I'm up on the hill side behind my house. There was an icecream truck down on the road we had to wait to drive away before filming. Though just about everything west of my place looks like this. It can be nice up in the junipers.

  • I'm jealous, you make the hand drill look WAY too easy.

Great video, appreciate what you do!

  • Great review on that stove. I use a pocket cooker and it weighs around 2lbs, this looks like a great replacement at 8oz. Thanks for sharing the omlet in a bag trick, great video. Hope to see you on the trail! (R.I.P. R.H.)

  • @jprEd1973 Thanks man. Yeah, the pocket cooker is a great little stove, just heavy for my tastes and of course i love the way you feed the emberlit. I was hoping to show Ron the stove at EOTW. Sigh, RIP in deed. It's the passing of an age in my opinion.

  • Great looking stove. Using chopsticks is a good idea as well Thanks.

  • @cahoonu Stainless steel and they cost me $3 for 10 of them at the asian market.

  • Very cool stove bro! Cant wait to get out there and do my video.
