  • at 1;28,he's thinking of page&heartbreaker. -he's more prowess&ability than anything else but that being said ... have to say that this is the best that i've ever heard from him. yup'r,i'm listening to this, Eddie and i feel your pain.

    i hear your heart beating.

  • This is BRÜTAL AWESOMENESS!!!

  • I think the new years eve 77 blows this solo away easy

  • @S211213 In what way? That solo is among the best though. This is kind of like the best solo most people haven't heard.

  • what is Eddie playing from 3:48 to 4:04. I recognize it from somewhere.

  • @lolwtfreak The outro to Jump.

  • listen to jimis rythmn playing that was unique and ahead of its time...

im a massive eddie nut... but as ive matured through my teens ive learned to appreciate players for feel not speed... although i spend most of my time shredding in metal bands...coz its all dickheads wanna play :/

i love emulating dave gilmour, clapton and players like that...sure we can all shred and play like dimebag if we want its easy....and dont get me started on sweeps....thats called lazy guitar playing in my opinion

  • @hlmguitarsaxman Eddie Van Halen is about more than speed. He has 'feeling'. He just shows it in different ways. Clapton and Gilmour are good, but they are just too boring for me. There's just not enough variation in their soloing and their riffs are boring for the most part. Metal can often get boring as well. I don't understand how sweeps are lazy. They are pretty hard to do cleanly. Relying on the same old basic scale to carry you through every solo and tons of riffs... now that's lazy.

  • @hlmguitarsaxman You forgot to tell everyone what you had for breakfast

  • Eddie was / is a visionary, if I can use that word. He's inventive. Listen to his live stuff, he rarely plays a lick the same way twice. When he hit the scene in the mid 70's we thought 'who the hell is this?'

Jimi was visionary of the 60's, as far as the guitar. Yeah, I agree, some of his stuff is 'noise.' But a lot of it isn't! I love Hey Joe, even though it's not his original song. I don't agree with sayin Jimi is God or Clapton or Eddie or anyone.

  • If you wanna hear some great licks, listen to Roy Buchannon. He played everything from heavy rock to country and everything in-between.

I've been playin for over 35 years and I'll never be a Jimi or Eddie or anyone, I write and I play from my heart. If they can make you really feel something from their playing, then they are the shite!

Don't down who came before you my friend, What was before them and how'd they add to or chang things "At That Time" and what they effected afterwards.

  • @LTFIRELT you' re an idiot!when you revolution music and guitar like jimmy or...eddie...i apologie but i ' m sure i never won' t!it' s not only shred

  • @LTFIRELT I'm sure your dick is also bigger than Hendrix's. Now try to compose a better song than his songs or to be as inventive today as he was for his time. Guitaring is not only how fast you can play, don't forget the music, the feeling, the scales you choose (and not only the F@¨%%* pentatonic). I go on your page to see your vids if you have some. Cheers, bud.

  • I guess part of the Hendrix thing was being there. He tore the sky open in the 60's and 70's. Also listen to his comping on Axis Bold as Love. Some of the finest guitar-ism ever. jrs Love this solo. Edward knows more than he lets on.

  • @LTFIRELT Hendrix did stuff with the guitar nobody else did at the time. Like The Wah, or Distortion which he got from The Beatles, also Invented MANY techniques that musicians like Eddie Van Halen use, plus music production Guitar Panning techniques on recordings nobody else used at the time... he HAD BLUES IN HIS PLAYING. YOU CAN PLAY A MILLION SCALES, but the blues is what makes it real... Youtube "Jimi Hendrix- Voodoo Child" and If that doesn't answer your question... he sold his soul

  • @BloodShotNow The blues makes it real? So I guess Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, and everyone else before blues was created wasn't real. Honestly, Hendrix was basically a generally unfocused Eric Clapton who used effects. He was good, but I don't get the hype. If you really want to hear a great guitarist, listen to Les Paul when he was young. If people didn't grow up hearing that Jimi Hendrix was the best, then very few people would come to that conclusion on their own.

  • In my opinion I think all guitarist are bad ass. Be it Van Halen, Hendrix (RIP), Page, Dimebag Darrell (RIP), Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, SRV (RIP), Chuck Shuldiner (RIP) or Pat O'brien. I can go on... I think they all are bad ass guitarist and I jam to all off them.

  • @LTFIRELT Your just looking at Jimi wrong young man...your not hearing him..i understand where your coming from but believe me,it's just because of your age..listen to "Voodoo Child" on Electric Ladyland and some of the other cuts, close your eye's and think about in 1968 when that came out, take all the music after that year until now and take it away!...then you can get more of a sense of just how great he was and what an innovator he was..he stood alone in front of all others!

  • Is fast better then slow? No..You don't know what Jimi Hendix would have become...i wouldn't even want to play like Eddie...i hear much more soul and feeling when i listen to Jimi play a solo! That's for me,not for you!...Jimi opened it up for guys like Eddie to get amazing like they are.lightening fast scale boys are a dime a dozen these days.Albert Collins never needed a million notes to touch your soul.if you could go back in time and listen to jimi back in '67 you'd be talking differently!

  • my band plays meanstreak

  • @LTFIRELT

You should change your name to Little Shit.

    No offense :)

  • @gtrrobster my band is better than hendix experience. im not trying to dis him but hes surely not the best and im tired of hearing it all the time jimmy page same era and was better

  • @LTFIRELT you can take jimi hendrix and jimmy page and combined them into one and you still woulnt have just ONE EDDIE VAN HALEN!

  • syn gates!!! \m/

  • I also have to say that all the guitarist befor and after eddie van halen wont even come close to takeing the guitar any furtherthan what eddie has already done and continues to do 34 years later.

  • Type o its lets not forget

  • And lets forget it was eddie van halen 34 years ago that took the guitar so far into space that 34 years later no guitarist yet hasnt even come close to his guitar genuis. AND TO TOP IT OFF HE IS A INVENTER AND MASTER LUTHEIR A PURE GUITAR GENUIS.

  • @LTFIRELT There is more to being a great guitar player than just technique and speed. Hendrix isn't "the best" or even close to it, but he was still a great guitarist for his day. Trust me, when I was 16 I could play really fast...but I still sucked. Keep playing for another 6 years and I bet you will look back on your comment and laugh...assuming youtube is still around in 6 years.

  • @zackvanhalen thanks for the good comment! :) i usualy get asswholes who just tell me im wrong and stupid. thanks if u like xbox u might wanna check out my channel i hav some cool vids! and nice vid

  • maybe I'm being critical and BORED! where's the NEW RECORD???? according to friends, it's pushed to OCTOBER, but it is unreleased roth stuff with a modern production, but the CLASSIC VH feel... I CAN'T WAIT!!

  • @falquest Yep, it supposedly going to be released in October. I doubt it will be all unreleased songs from the past. But, Mark Tremonti said the music sounds great.

  • "spoonful" jam kills

  • Ed was cocaine fast on this tour... pretty good... and the bluesy jams are phenom... but the hunger of '78, if you can find all the footage, is great...

  • Eddie u need to come out with a solo album just do it man.u know get some other guitar players u like and punch a hole I'n the sky man

  • @sithtodd If he does, it's not going to be for a while. Van Halen will be releasing a new album with Dave in October of this year. Expect a single to be released in a month or so. They are doing a bunch of shows in Australia at the end of September, then they will embark on a massive world tour in November. Supposedly, the album will contain 14 songs, one of which is an instrumental. A possible name for the album is "Two Zero One One"

  • @MrsKevinsmith Edward can out WRITE Morse and has more feel and creativity. Speed is NOT everything.

  • @Wilkster5150 Creativity, feel, and the ability to write great songs are all traits that are opinion based; speed is not. There is no way to prove Eddie has more feeling, creativity, ect. However, Eddie is much faster than people give him credit for.

  • tough.... i mean, theres three people that stick out in my mind when i hear the two words "guitar" and "god", Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen, and Jimmy Page. I Mean, i might be overrating Page, so correct me if im wrong, but those... those are the gods of guitar.

  • @quiksilverryan no, that about sums it up :)

  • @quiksilverryan umm, SRV!! do you know who that is? flip the page , drag and paste SRV. THANK YOU

  • @PHOSCHEKER Stevie Ray Vaughn? im just taking a guess right now. im not like a pro with guitar knowledge... but i know hes just as unreal as Hendrix, and the others i mentioned.

  • @quiksilverryan Let me put it this way: What Eddie is to rock, Stevie Ray Vaughn was to blues. They both energized and set the standard for newer and more exciting ways of playing for their genre. Basically, they both had that extra little something that made them the best at what they did.

  • @zackvanhalen I think its poetic and safe to say that each of the major guitarists, like Jimi, Stevie, Jimmy, Eddie, and Randy each have their own unique professional sound to them that makes them great.

  • @quiksilverryan Paaage is way overrated , sorry some of his live solos are messy aweful, but VAN HALEN HENDRIX PAGE r three of the greatest guitar song writers of all time, i agree VAN HALEN = PAGE & HENDRIX combined

  • @downincognito72 Why did you type Page with three "A"s?

  • the crowd sounds like they added em later

  • Eddie Van Halen is God!!

  • Eddie and Steve Stevens are my favorite guitarists. This is massive. Thanks for the post!!

  • @nameiamusing van halen is so bad ass eddie can play eruption straight at chuck norris's face....and live

  • nothing is special , he's got the pick of destiny :P

  • this is BY FAR the best picking I've heard him do in the context of a live solo. Is this a tad sped up?

  • @headlesssoldier Not at all.

  • i hear alot of paul gilbert in his solos better yet i should say i hear alot of van halen in paul gilberts solos

  • @jsthere2watchvideos I thought the same thing!

  • Thanks for posting!!! Definetly much different than the usual!!!

  • @synesthesia67 I think this is the best overall. He really branches out and does some cool picking patterns and scales that I never really hear him do. And his playing is extra clean. Combine that with the epic blues jam and the crazy four and five fingered tapping on part two and you have what I consider to be his best. Which do you think is better?

  • Beats the living crap out of Dragon Force and Bucket Head...

  • Anybody else wanna confirm this, the blues part seems to be sitting on top of the world

  • @QGfk1 it is

  • awsoms!!!!!!

  • ai mejore q eddie xD

  • Fantastic !!

  • el mejor guitarrista lejos invntor de grandes tecnicas de guitarra simplemente el mas groso x dios!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Live from the San Diego Sports Arena: May 21, 1984.

  • The guy could play fast back then!He was the man in 1984,THATS for sure.

  • hes always the man

  • Eddie is done,IMO.He hasnt done anything new since the early 90's.Hey,what he did was great, and he'll always be remembered as one of the greats. But,if you listen to him now vs what he sounded like 15-20 years ago,you cant help wishing that someone woud tell him to stop.

  • hes not done intell hes dead. everbody changes hes 99% the same

  • @MrPeppers92 Last time I chekk'd Ed was still Ed.... 100% Ed...no filler!

  • je taime EDDIE !!!!! si tu srè pd je srè ton mec!!

  • Eddie is God

  • Comment removed

  • this is so good! definitely his best solo!!!

    the blues part was awesome

  • That blues part is insanely good

  • I get tired of all the tapping sometimes. Its good to hear Eddie just wailing without a lot of tapping. He woud still be as bad-ass if he never tapped.

  • this is so good, why doesn't he play like this now?

  • The funny thing is, he's pretty much is back to this level. He sucked on the first big part of this most recent tour. But, the last ten or so shows of that tour he proved he could still play. I urge you to watch the Manchester 2008 solo or any of the songs from that show. Still, I'll admit that his solo spot isn't this impressive, but its still great.

  • no u suck he kicked ass

  • @TheGumbo13 I have Heard Steve Morse and Him Playing at Steve's House and Steve is so much faster and cleaner if he choses to be cleaner than Eddie. I could not believe it but you can't tell Eddie that or he explodes I know! They are Good Friends but Eddie Popularized the Pull off he never invented them like so many non musicians say. I Can't Wait to see them of the 24th time and I like Dave over Sammy any day...

  • @MrsKevinsmith Steve isn't faster, but he is more versatile. Eddie was extremely fast and clean in his prime. When did you see them at Steve's house?

  • @zackvanhalen I Have seen it with my own eyes So Sorry to Burst you Idea Of the Facts Btw ask anyone else that has seen them trade licks....

  • @MrsKevinsmith First of all, you're not bursting my bubble with your "facts". I simply asked you when you saw them play at Steve's house. I don't need to see them trade licks. I know what licks Eddie plays and I know what licks Steve plays.

  • I got a tape bootleg of this solo, still have it, about 10 years ago! Great solo!

  • if that's a bootleg it's a damn good one.

  • I agree. Maybe one day this will get a million hits. By the way, have you checked out all my other EVH solos? They're all his best solos according to me.

  • Hell yeah the 1980 one is ridiculous

  • this is from San Diego, right?

  • Yes, I believe it is.

  • Just Completly Shredding

  • Damn I wish they made live vids of this era!

  • You know what sucks? They did. They recorded the Donnington 1984 show. Its all on video. In fact there are quite a few Roth era concerts that they could release. I'll never understand why they have chosen not to release them yet.

  • Money.

Who has the major rights and Ed's legacy are both money driven.

  • I'm glad you like it.

  • holy shit!!!! definately one of the best!
