  • @oh really? where do the gata come from?

  • @2bjjones 12 or so Furi Gata methods from three schools combined together in our practice. From Takagi Yoshin Ryu and another Ryuha as well. Not all the spinning methods in my video are designed for just the Rokushaku Bo. Some are specifically for the spear as well. A pole-arm with a blade on one end. That end needs to be kept forwards for cutting. The standard Bo Furi method (Sayu Bo Mawashi) does not allow you to keep the blade forward.

  • funny. Although I studied kukishinden ryu, well the basics anyway, I sorta learned this spinning concept just from devoting enough practice in bojutsu, but I never thought it was part of the system. Self realization of kata can be so eerie at times. it's like doing a technique long before you realized the "technique" you supposedly made up had been in the system all along.

  • @2bjjones Not all the forms of Bo Furi Gata that we do are from Kukishin Ryu.
