The sad thing about this study is that it used only the people that were given to Spitzer from groups like exodus international, love won out, and NARTH. The interviews were only phone based, and Spitzer never attempted to ask if any of the 200 were in fact bisexual. Generally speaking, during self-report surveys or related data, some percentage of the participants will be dishonest. So one mere testimony is not nearly enough data to prove a hypothesis.

If someone did a similar trial and around 40 to 50% responded with change and then this were to repeat multiple times, I'd believe it. This has yet to happen.

In fact there is a lot of evidence that shows environmental factors are a big cause - e.g. poor relationship with the parent of the same gender, physical abuse as a child, not being accepted by kids of the same gender at school. An author who really steered me away from this line of thinking was Kate Bornstein. There are reams of research and writings that all challenge the notion that homosexuals are 'mixed up'. Mostly because it's impossible to say what 'natural' sexual orientation really is. Check her out for a good read!
