That may be. But it seeme to me that he looks pretty proud when Prof. Schmidt-Gaden shakes his had immediately after his performance. I wonder if singing Pamina isn't one of the most honored roles in the chor? I really enjoy the boys' unrehearsed and uninhibited expressions. I especially like the grin on the boy on the right in the first set of boys Was he a Pamina also?

They're new CD Michaelisvesper is proof of that...11 treble soloists...incredible production...

Actually, the Tölzer boys choir haven't published much in recent years...They are certainly as good as the Hannoveraners..., but they aren't producing the same amount of CD's ...But the Tölzers are more famous on youtube....

I felt bad for the first set of boys. It seemed to me that they were waiting for applause but they did not get any. Anybody know why?

Did you watch the whole video ?

After the performances of all soloists the applause was "allowed"...

That concert was on Sunday evening and ended at 10 pm. The next morning all the poor kids had to get up early cause they had to go to school...:) Therefore all the applauses had to be "reduced".

Different culture and customs...Applause is rarely given inbetween pieces of classical music. Even in a semi-formal setting... Furthermore, the first set of boys didn't even finish the whole aria..., so people probably expected that the boys went on with it...I guess, they forget too went off stage and were amused about their mistake...In Germany it is also a sign of politeness to wait a few seconds after a performance and than start applauding...

Thank you for this excellent update of the Tölzer Knabenchor. It's very interesting to compare this group with the one in Graz in 2000 and with the Harnoncourt DVD of JSB's Johannes Passion. Such a concentration of talent year after year! And nowadays discipline being so difficult to impose but as essential to a choir as in the days of glorious JSB and wonderful WAM. Again Tausend Danke

1- Thanks Toelzerfanclever- the picture and sound quality are both excellent.

2- The boys should walk off to their right, in an orderly manner instead of bumping into each other. It looks untidy and unprofessional. The boys coming on should come in from the other side. One boy even has his hirt hanging out !

3- They should all bow TOGETHER together, when the conductor says 'Bow' ; otherwise, it looks unprofessional.

4- The singing was up to the customary high Tolzer standard. Herr Schmidt-Gaden seems to constantly unearth and then polish new treasures all the time.

10 excellent soloists in only 10 minutes! That is not a normal boys choir! It's an elite school for future artists on the opera stage and classic music halls.

In spite of the sound track having wrongly recorded the hammering piano and not the singers (!) it´s easy to recognize real talent, mostly among the the last quartett. And with the "Pamina" boy something great for future has arrived. His voice and also his cool, natural appearance is very like Alexander Lischke´s when he turned up! This one seems like 11 yo now and should have at least 2 years to better his lung volume and also d-a-r-e to let lose his full capacity. What´s his name?
