I was thinking the same thing. Pat Buchanan is racial arsonist. Buchanan is right in some respects, but also wrong. He talked about Obama not winning Virginia again. It all depends: the economy is not bad in Virginia where unemployment is 6.4%, demographics are changing rapidly, 35% of Virginia is non-white. I know because I'm from Virginia. Obama's white support will drop in VA by 5-6 points, but his non-white support in VA probably still be strong enough to overcome that.

That is how our political culture has evolved over time. It interesting that at the turn of 20th century to the 1940's blacks voted Republican, but during FDR to Obama they have overwhelmingly voted Democratic. Republicans have not done much to court black votes, but have made policies to turn them away.
It is kind of a shame that the people that the party that freed slaves can't get votes of their descendants. The GOP made a calculation in the 70's/80's that they didn't need black votes to win.

I was thinking the same thing. Pat Buchanan is racial arsonist. Buchanan is right in some respects, but also wrong. He talked about Obama not winning Virginia again. It all depends: the economy is not bad in Virginia where unemployment is 6.4%, demographics are changing rapidly, 35% of Virginia is non-white. I know because I'm from Virginia. Obama's white support will drop in VA by 5-6 points, but his non-white support in VA probably still be strong enough to overcome that.

The aging white section of the electorate may be shrinking proportionally, but they're becoming more united, and they showed that in 2010. However, the GOP and Tea Party successes that year were a hypercorrection for 2006 and 2008, and a lot of it was, and we all know this if we're honest, over Obama's funny name and funny skin color.

Eisenhower, Nixon and Reagan were successful because of the Cold War, and the fears that our country's Left were insufficiently patriotic and willing to defend the homeland. Bush was re-elected because of 9/11, and not only the resulting Islamophobia, but other "culture war" issues such as gay marriage. Take away that fear, and we got Clinton for two terms and will likely have Obama for two as well.

@bf1tz also, race determines risk factors for any given disease - blacks are more likely to be lactose intolerant, less likely to get sun cancer etc., whites are more likely to develop celiac disease. the biological difference in between races - particularly black and white are quite substantial and if you can't find a journal article which suggests that one race is more likely to become prone to a certain diease or more capable of performing a given task due to race - you need to look harder

Are you reading medical journals from the 1800s? Everything you listed besides being somewhat (and I stress somewhat) more prone to certain conditions is complete bunk. An increased likelihood for something like sickle-cell disease in African Americans is the result of one amino acid mutation, an infinitesimally small difference in genetic makeup.

By your logic if someone is lactose intolerant, has longer limbs, a wider nose, more power and endurance, is resistant to "sun cancer" (lol), they must be a "black" person. What I am saying is take any "race" or any ethnicity and measure the genetiv variation within that population compare it to the genetic variation in any other ethnic group. What you start to realize is that characteristics not only vary just as much within any ethnic group as between them, but also that there is not a single nove trait that does not overlap with another ethnic group.
