  • Eagleton thinks he's at the apogee of contemporary socialism, but in fact he's a residual figure of 1960s romantic materialism. Real socialism is just emerging in the margins of British society- he doesn't know this because he's been on a fifty-year expenses, fame and salary junket which has corrupted his soul. He's loaded beyond your wildest dreams but more importantly he never helps anyone who needs it- not so much as a pound.
