Oh god poor thing! Greyhounds are skinny I understand. When animals get sick it is so hard, harder than you'd expect. It can be like losing a relative or best friend.
I'm dealing with two pet deaths right now. This pain is under rated! It's not quite as painful as when I lost my mother, but it's up there. I haven't been into work. Love of pets can be as strong as sibling love I think.

Thank you for posting this. Like your Gisela, my cat was suffering from pancreatitis and I had to euthanize him. It's terrible to see our beloved pets wasting away in pain, but putting them out of their misery is the only thing we can do to save them from suffering. RIP Gisela and my boy Boris.

@nytransplnt Sometimes it may seem to others the best idea to put a dog to sleep immediatley after recieving a neglected dog like Gisela, I used to think the same myself, but if that dog after years of pure hell and abuse can feel at least 1 hour or 1 week (don't forget a vet wont keep an animal alive, in pain unless they can control tha pain and think the dog can come through and get the life it deserves) then isn't it better that it passes feeling a little love & poss even a little security!

Sometimes...the final gift is the best one that you can give. End the pain, the suffering, the misery.
Sometimes, the pain is great but the final gift and the memories it may bring is the best gift you can give. The time, joy, and comfort, you gave...it took me many years after our greyhound had to be put down (lymphatic cancer) to come to this...but she had one HELL of a good run at life.
I have put animals to sleep- as I cry (like now) I tell them that I release them, and I'll see them at the rainbow bridge. As they die in my arms, I weep, but I know they are no longer suffering. It's the least we can do for our beloved companions. Keeping them alive when the fight should be over is an act of cowardice, not love.

Its so sad that humans can do sutch terrible things to animals like her, I get so angry on humans that do things like that, the person its not human its a monster and should have the same treatment, but no Gisela rest in peace in the everlasting paradise of love and Joy and no more suffer. I emailed the Spainish Embassy here and received this reply. That there's been very recent law changes regarding such atrocities is encouraging, as it means such things are being considered at the highest realms of governance, and the issues are on the table, IMO..

The hanging of dogs cannot be considered a tradition but a penalized reprehensible cruelty. There are not official statistics on greyhound breed in Spain; the sources on this issue are diverse but inaccurate.
In any case, the reality to highlight in this regard is that mistreatment of dogs has been a sad reality for many years, in response to which the Spanish Penal Code has been modified at the end of 2010 so as to toughen the punishment related to such behaviour. As a matter of fact, animal aggressors will no longer incur in a misdemeanour but in a criminal offense punished with between three months and one year in prison and between one and three years of disqualification to work with animals.
Regarding the control measures (registration and chips), registration is mandatory within the whole territory, whereas each region has authority regarding microchip implantation. However, most of them have approved laws making this control mechanism mandatory so far.

Still your beautiful condolences come through for this beautiful girl. It is difficult not to still be sad and reading all the lovely messages makes my heart cry out but already we have more galgos needing our help and love. Two last week, one galgo, Milo with a nasty injury to his front leg, the other one, Nikita, thin and frightened. Both in foster care now. This week a galga in the pound with only 3.5 legs due to be euthanised. We cannot get her out until the vet has checked her over.
My heart goes out to you at such a time of grief. As you know that last act of kindness is really proof of your selfless love for Gisela. May the wonderful memories of your time together quickly return to brighten your hearts.

She will live in so many peoples hearts all around the world and hopefully the plight of the galgo and the courage and trust they show to everyone has been seen in this video in her eyes. Now she is at peace and no longer struggling for life! We lost a very special loveable cat on July 4, 08, to liver cancer. Losing a pet is extremely hard and we have to hold on to the memories we had with them. So sorry for your loss.

I know how heartbroken you must be, having had to euthanize my pets in the past. Not to compound your loss, but the dog looks incredibly emaciated. Maybe you waited too long. As responsible pet owners we must always put their needs before our own.
Please kizmet5000, look at all the videos before you judge the efforts these good people have done for Gisela. You will see that she WAS emaciated when they rescued her, they tried to bring her back to health with the help of a great vet, and the good thoughts of all of us. She fought for her life and they decided to euthanize her when their doctor told them that she was no longer fighting. They helped as long as they could and let her find peace when she stopped fighting. You are wrong!

I was sitting at the side of my own dog years ago when he died and although he had a wonderful life it was hard to stay till the end. Your video made me remember for him again. So sad! Rest in peace...

it's disgusting and sad, that there are such bad people out there, who do not care for their animals...i do not understand this behavior!!!

This unethical, immoral , and inhumane treatment on an animal who just wants to love you and you to love them. Man, however, is capable of committing the worst of evils on animals and children who can't fight back and are completely innocent. Why can't the inhumane man go outside and pound on a tree to release the rage from within? A tree is not going to feel the fury because they o not have a soul .People must get involved and report this. The best place to report abuse is to call a vet. RIP G

I'm sorry, but no compassion person who cares about animals would allow one to get to this stay and attempt to "fight" her way back to health. The pet owner sounds VERY selfish for having allowed this animal to suffer for so long. I despise people like you! You let your pet suffer just because you were too weak to let go! Shame on you!

Still your beautiful condolences come through for this beautiful girl. It is difficult not to still be sad and reading all the lovely messages makes my heart cry out but already we have more galgos needing our help and love. Two last week, one galgo, Milo with a nasty injury to his front leg, the other one, Nikita, thin and frightened. Both in foster care now. This week a galga in the pound with only 3.5 legs due to be euthanised. We cannot get her out until the vet has checked her over.

Was ein wunderschönes Andenken an die arme Maus. Ich denke das sie jetzt ihre ruhe gefunden hat und noch einmal in ihrem Leben gespürt hat das sie geliebt wurde. Mein Gott ich kann garnicht aufhören zu weinen wenn ich sehe wie man mit Gottesgeschöpfen umgeht.

Thank you everyone for all your kind comments. I have been amazed at how many people have been touched by Gisela's short life with us. Your warmth and sorrow has been overwhelming. She will live in so many peoples hearts all around the world and hopefully the plight of the galgo and the courage and trust they show to everyone has been seen in this video in her eyes. RIP Gisela! Sorry that her fight for life was lost!
Now she is at peace and no longer struggling for life! We lost a very special loveable cat on July 4, 08, to liver cancer. Losing a pet is extremely hard and we have to hold on to the memories we had with them. So sorry for your loss.

I know how heartbroken you must be, having had to euthanize my pets in the past. Not to compound your loss, but the dog looks incredibly emaciated. Maybe you waited too long. As responsible pet owners we must always put their needs before our own.

Please kizmet5000, look at all the videos before you judge the efforts these good people have done for Gisela. You will see that she WAS emaciated when they rescued her, they tried to bring her back to health with the help of a great vet, and the good thoughts of all of us. She fought for her life and they decided to euthanize her when their doctor told them that she was no longer fighting. They helped as long as they could and let her find peace when she stopped fighting. You are wrong!

i am GUTTED here!!!!! thanks to YOU though, she died in peace and surrounded by love. it's important, i've had to do it myself. i've taken in animals that that were on their last legs and i KNEW they would die soon and all i could do was nurse them, provide a peaceful environment, give them TONS of love and take things as they go. sometimes, it's all we can do. they pass on peacefully whilst we are in agony! such is the life of an animal lover in all it's depressing reality! BLESS YOU ALL!
