Conservatives have always felt that a smaller government was better since the founding of the USA. That was in the eighteenth century, well before late night TV show antics were invented. Conservatism is one side of American politics that has always been there, and it is not promoting anarchy, but rather a smaller government. This is simply a continuation of those ideas by people who feel the government is getting too big, which is something the founding fathers themselves tried to prevent.
Though this short excerpt of the whole Tea Party does not include it, there was a section where one speaker in particular brought up the point that the money was going to inefficient uses, such as employing someone for only a few hours to refurbish a basketball court.
And the point of the tea party was not to protest how the money is being spent, but to protest that too much is being spent... period. Conservatives feel that tax cuts would benefit the economy more than extra government spending.
Everyone is entitled to there own opinion, however, it is unfortunate that we cannot discuss them without resorting to insults and degrading cliches, especially ones that are untrue and do not apply.

You may have no state or local income tax, but your sales tax rate is 10% or more in some citites/counties. I have relatives who live there. Also Tenn. is one of only 3 states that doesn't follow the federal guidelines for "Gift Tax". You must pay when you inherit something, and you must pay again if you give it away to someone. That's Absurd !! But your state is beautiful !!
The DNA of the protests inevitably is not so much about "freedom" it is about having a balck man (or half black) as the president...sad!
