There were clashes only on a single ship, the rest of the convoy was unharmed. Israel has the right to security and to stop its enemy (Hamas, Hesbollah) from getting its hands on weapons. @desager1 As to my ignorance- I flew back from Israel yesterday where I was in Sderot near Gaza and saw first-hand the bomb shelters on every corner and over schools because the HaMaS continually attacks Israeli children, using their own women/children as human shields. Israel only retaliates when their people/children are terrorized (as any country would do). I also saw a military trial against a suicide bomber and the man was treated more fairly than he would have been in most US courts.

The slaughter of innocents in the Gaza Strip (Operation Cast Lead) was utterly vile and fascistic, as was the illegal and inhumane siege before Israel broke the June 2008 truce with Hamas and the extent of the blockade is is even worse today. Israel doesn't deny its use of human shields, it simply says it's changing policy, but that wasn't the case in Operation Cast Lead as documented already.

Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, B'Tselem... they've documented cases on the use of human shields on Israel's part. And even if human shields were used on Hamas' part, its a bullshit suggestion to use it as an explanation for the 700+ civilian deaths. (cont.)

I agree with the international community in condemning the land grabs, followed with the brutal occupation that continues until today. The Israeli government can play legal games with the justification of the West Bank settlements, but there's no way anyone could morally defend them.

There were clashes only on a single ship, the rest of the convoy was unharmed. Israel has the right to security and to stop its enemy (Hamas, Hesbollah) from getting its hands on weapons. They only wanted to scour the ship for weapons and not to stop aids reaching Gaza. If some use such actions to supply the Palestine with weaponry than this is no longer a civilian humanitarian action but a shear military one the Israeli have the right to intervene.
