Add to that the thousands of hearing people who know sign language that makes a fair percentage of the population who can sign. Also the majority of signed programs are put on in the middle of the night so I think it's only fair that some of the news is signed for them during normal daytime hours and people such as yourself show more respect.

It's actually a clever satire on the supposed iconicity of signed languages and the reality that they are indeed anything but. It's no more offensive than any humour based upon a word in one language sounding like a different word in another language. It's funny, and should not be taken to be offensive. (By the way, I'm a qualified sign language interpreter who has published work on variation in signed languages; also a huge Adam Buxton fan.)

Come on, we all laugh at the English "translations" (renditions?) of Indian songs, and they're exactly the same thing, interpretations based on what another language sounds like. the "translation for dumb" was meant as "translation for hearing", not as an insult or offense to Deaf. The voice over is funny because HE is dumb and NOT intrepreting the signs correctly, voicing nonsense about a women w/ hot breasts and a man in a bowler hat. The "dumb" reference was in regards to the man voicing the interpretation incorrectly.

I see some are berating the deaf people who complained about the title of this very funny clip.

The hearing contributors have to understand that deaf grammar differs to proper English grammar.

Even my deaf parents thought the (with translation for dumb) part in the title was a dig at them. Until I explained it was actually a dig at dumb hearing people. I translated Adam Buxton's interpretation and they actually found it quite funny.
