Burned Out Provo Tabernacle Research Among Rubble Turns Up Original Historic Hidden Beautiful Painted Decorations: See inside photo and short video at blog mormonartconservation
I grew up atheist in a Mormon family in Provo. I sat in this building many times when I still attended church. Whether or not we believe in God, it is sad to see historic buildings go like that. Hotel Roberts, the Catholic church on State, now this. At least the people of Provo saved the Academy building. I feel that we lose touch of our history too quickly, accepting the stucco invasion like stripmalls. Goodbye, old building. Where will we skate or grind rails now?
Should have checked for the smell of the hot glue gun and not just think it was the cameras. Happy that nobody was hurt, sad to see such a beautiful building gone. Hopefully what is left can be rebuilt.
@tweezer28 Funny thing is, anyone who works with AV equipment knows that the smell that is produced from wires burning is almost the exact same smell produced as a hot glue gun.
I just moved away from Provo to Eastern CT into an old historic home built 1883. It is an old beautiful home like most buildings here but the tarbernacle was different. I drove by it daily n everytime I was in awe, like looking east at the mountains. They got me every time. That, the courthouse and library. It's a real shame.
We were just there on Saturday. My daughter's choir sang there three times a year. The craftsmanship in the building was amazing. A real piece of history is gone.
Its weird. I hated going in there. The seats always drove me crazy, and every event that happened there that I went to kinda sucked. On the other hand, I miss the darn thing. Back in Philadelphia, there are loads of old historic buildings. Provo only has one--that one--and now it has none.
@vantarinitel Well, let's see...there are a few historic buildings on BYU campus, there's the B.Y. Academy, the Magleby's building on 5th West; the Knight Block & the Union Building, and dozens of pre-1900's and turn-of-the-century homes. Really none as beautiful as this one though, IMO.

Makes me cry to see this. One of the loveliest buildings in Provo. Heard The Messiah sung here many times at Christmas.

My sister lives in Provo. I always enjoyed seeing this building when I went to visit. Sad it's gone.

This is some amazing footage... I just drove by there (it's just past midnight) and the flames were still shooting out the windows. So sad.

That's not entirely true. We still have the old Brigham Young Academy building and some older structures in downtown Provo.
