  • This is exactly what I needed. Thank you!

I have been asked to make a crois for a hand-fasting ceremony this year, and had no idea where to start. Thank you so much for this video.

  • Thanks! The best place to learn fast warping is at triple W (dot) lindahendrickson (dot) com. She has posted a video on it. It is listed under 'Instructions' as 'How to make continuous warp'. Linda Hendrickson is a marvelous weaver. Check it out!

  • Clear, concise directions. Thanks. Have always wanted to learn cardweaving, & just ordered some cards. Still have to find a tutorial on warping, but your video gave me a better understanding of how it all works.

  • Thank you for this. I am so new I haven't even woven anything yet. The magnet idea is great because keeping track of where I am is a worry to me too. Can't wait to get started!

  • The magnet thing is a standard cross stitching method. Crochet and Knitting as well.

  • the magnet idea is clever

  • @ollieoniel Thanks! I once bought a similar system that was designed for Cross stitching. I have no idea what I did with it but this one is pretty much the same. It's not an original idea by any means but it sure works for card weaving.

  • Thanks for replying so soon but nothing is found under Google searches. perhaps you could email them to me as we will be using them in the RV whilst traveling in the holidays.

  • I wish to teach my grandaughter card weaving and would love to know where you obtained your frame or plans details. Grandad

  • @GrandadandOlivia Good for you Grandad! I have posted detailed photographs of my loom at nellanellabest.blogspot.com If you 'google' that you should end up at the blog. I peiced together the loom from several different sources. I wanted a portable one I could use while travelling. For teaching your grandaughter you may just need the backstrap tensioning device, some cards, some crochet cotton and something to tie the cords to. Yesteray I jused a tree. It was finally sunny here!

  • This is great, hope you are planning to do more..I'm interested in learning how to do this...fantastic

  • Thanks so much! I'm just took a class on cardweaving and have the basic idea but kept getting lost if I got distracted. This method will be a big help!

  • @connipal You're welcome. It was the details of what needed to happen and why it needed to happen was what made card weaving easier for me. The breakthrough was from Philia's research when she said the thread that crosses the to of the card is the one that shows. Check out 'Philia's String Page' for more!

  • Love the video. Where did you get the plans for your loom?

  • Awesome video! Thank you very much. I had just found out about card weaving in a medieval pattern book, but they only explained the technique, not how to do patterns. So this adds a lot of information!

  • This is probably the clearest video on tablet weaving I've seen so far :)

  • @samato09 Thanks! That's what I was going for. It's nice to know i have succeeded.

  • Beautiful pattern. I have found very little in the way of learning how to make a weaving board or loom, where did you find these references, if I may ask. I would need to be able to put my work away, and having a portable loom or weaving board would be a must for me. I have an interest in inkle weaving but don't plan to buy one of those for a long time.

    Thanks

  • Very nice

  • Thank you so much for this video. It was very helpful. :)

    - Weaver form Norway.

  • @aarjolilja Thanks so much! I loved doing it and hope to get a second one done this summer. It's so nice to sit and weave outside in the evening.

  • I know exactly what you mean about finding very little to show you how the cards turn! Thank you so much for this!!

  • Where can I find this pattern? ^^ I love it and would like to try it too :D

  • Very nice.

  • Thanks for the replys. I have decided to try Nella's pattern from this video, as my first few attempts have left me pulling my hair out, lol.

After watching this video a few times I am ready to try again. I just need more cotton.

  • If you have a pattern that says FFFFBBBB does that mean that when I mark the lines of the pattern do I mark line 1 F, line 2 F etc then line 5 B, line 6 B etc.

This is what is confusing me at the moment.

I really want to learn and can't find this info anywhere.

    Thanks for any help.

  • Yes. Four turns forward and then four turns backwards. You are working a threaded in pattern, aren't you? The last one I did that was threaded in called for two forward, two back, six forward and then six back to get the pattern to repeat. With threaded-in patterns the turning sequences often vary.

    Hope this helps!

  • Ranchwhiner is right. FFFFBBBB would be right for cardweaving only in a threaded-in pattern.

I'd love to see your pattern or maybe even the final project!

  • I have been working on a pattern for the last week and just could not get it... Thank you so much for this video... tytytytytytyty

  • On the second line of the pattern, your background cards were rotated forward TWO quarter turns. Was this supposed to happen? Great video - this has helped me considerably in the logistics of this type of TW. Thanks!

  • Yes. Each row of the pattern takes two one-quarter turns. That's why it was so difficult for me to remember where I was in the pattern. I always got interrupted or ended up to far into the 'zen' of weaving to remember if I was on the first or second turn in each row. Moving the shuttle from one side to the other became my indicator.

    Hope this helps.

  • great video. You make it easy to understand.

  • Excellent. Thank you for this!

  • Marni, what a wonderful video. I actually understood how a pattern works...believe it or not..I didn't before...thank you :):):):)

  • I'm so glad! It really helps to know what you're looking for in each of the steps.

    Thanks for commenting!

  • OMG! I get it! Finally I get it!

  • Wonderful video! I look forward to seeing the pattern on Ravelry soon. Really nice job.
