All you guys are doing beside pointing a live weapon at you with the hammer cocked, is stressing the snake out. Snakes cannot tolerate much handling in a careless(to the snake) manner. Rattlers have their place in the ecosystem and are vital for rodent control. They have natural enemies such as the king snakes of which are many varieties. I ask you to leave em alone fellers, please.
@rmachayes In this case the snakes were located next to a day care center and baby rattlesnakes had been found INSIDE the building, so I'm sure you agree that snakes in those situations cannot be left alone but must be removed, and in this case at least the snake escaped with its life.
Is it legal to hunt rattlers in Texas? I live in western Canada, and although we have diamondbacks, we're technically not allowed to hunt them (although, the fact that rattlesnakes may pose a threat, makes the law difficult to enforce).
You should not kill rattle snakes..... Just leave them alone and they will leave you alone! You have to just about step on them to get bit, they really don't want any trouble...
all im asking is that plp should respect em, there beautyful animals yes deadly but deadly beautyful, thats why they rattle to warn us, hey im here and i dont want you near me...when they bite a human its usually cause there being abuse or handle.... theres rescue groups get a hold of one of em, they will gladly help you and take that sanke to a secluded area
Is that a diamondback? my brother was taking out the trash to find a diamondback on our front porch. we shot it twice in the head with a bb gun, dround it in a large pickle jar for over half an hour, then froze it. Is it dead? I heard they come back to life when you let them thaw.
@The1sillygirly i got bitten by a western diamondback rattlesnake at a frds house in southern cali, i caught her put her in a wooden box, my frd took me to ER, i was in the hospital for 7 days and got a bill for almost 30k, well about that snake that bite me shes been my pet for almost 3 yrs now
@SICKDOG831 wow. well... good for you. I didn't have a say. It was my dad that shot it. He's a father that grew up on a cow ranch and that's how it's always been done for him. It's all he's ever known. He's only trying to protect his family. That and spending so much money for a cure isn't a luxury we can afford.
Ok I know lots of professional snake people and to a person they just won't handle a live rattler. This guy is obviously good but it's just too dangerous to do this stuff he is doing. Having a bystander hold it is really not wise. You're making people think this is no big deal. A rattler bite is extremely dangerous.
@bordercollie1961 You are right, of course. We went into this adventure without really thinking it through, and had no intention of handling a rattlesnake. I'm not sure anyone will think this is no big deal, because most people have commented that we were crazy or stupid or both, to which I cannot disagree. Still, I have a framed picture of myself holding a 5-foot live rattlesnake and I can't help thinking that's a pretty cool souvenir of this reckless escapade.
Texas ranchers used to hunt them all the time with 22 rifles from the bed of a pickup truck -- accurate and potent enough to kill with 1 shot -- since rattlers go after and kill livestock. They probably still hunt that way
@mac777daddy He's a professional, there's a differense. These aren't some ignorant city slickers wandering out in the tall grass not knowing what they're doing.
@MrSimonGirty My dad would have just bashed it's head in on site. He wouldn't have cared about species or anything. Fear and ignorance are the most dangerous weapons man has.
he coulda lit your ass up! standing on his tell and his head is freakin right there. at 1:30 the first thing that came to mind is, what the hell is that guy doing?!
Man i live a few miles from this town called sweetwater down here in tx and every year they have a national rattlesnake hunt and i mean like 4 year olds do it. Ma those people are crazy.
an where do iget astick like his? and will al snakes dothatwhen you grabthem with that stick? cause i don't want to get bit and then get fired for being a dumbass
alright. i got about a hundred questions or 10. i have never seena rattler in texas andi been here 5 yrs till death. isee tons of snakes in my line of work. i've never seen acoral snake, a copperhead, or a rattler. i been bit on my steel toe in knee high grass and hightailed it out onto the gravel lol. but the snakes ialways see andi always mess with them, they prop up like cobra's. wtf?
@HudsonBendTX why poor snake? most people in the city would've lopped the things head off and tost it in the tall grass somewhere. nobody wants one of them things near them or their children. I happen to love snakes on the other hand. :D
Living here in Texas you always have to be aware of your surroundings, especially in the summer months or right now when the snakes come out of hibernation.
Awesome video thanks for sharing.
