  • Thank you for the video ! But I think there is a mistake in the subtitles at 1:29. Levinas says "où le geste de barrer est aussi important que le geste d'écrire", that can be translated as : "where the act of crossing out is as important as the act of writing".

    There is no question of "physical gestures" as opposed to "written gestures", it would be a misinterpretation.

  • @Himmel3775 Yes, you are right! The translation for this interview accompanied the video on the ina.fr site as a transcript (I just subtitled). Nevertheless, the translation for my other Levinas uploads is my work, so if there's any problem with them please let me know!

    Il faut dire que, lors de cette interview, Levinas a 87 ans (il n'a plus que deux ans à vivre) et que sa diction est parfois un peu difficile à comprendre. Au-delà de leur intérêt philosophique, ce sont des images très émouvantes...

  • @Himmel3775 Oui, ceux-ci sont des vidéos très émouvantes. Je crois qu'il avait aussi la Maladie d'Alzheimer à ce temps (j'ai seulement vu cette revendication une fois, dans le 'Introduction to Phenomenology' par Dermot Moran, p. 327)? Merci pour vos commentaires d'insightful!
