Even if umpire says:strike 3 batter out, it does'nt change the rule: If the ball touch the ground first, it's uncatch and batter can run to the 1rst when it's clear and les then 2 outs, or anytime with 2 outs. It looks like plate umpire ask to field umpire, and answer like the ball touch the ground first. Seem to be a good call.
It looks like the ball hit the ground after pitched, before it got to the catcher... Did it? If it did it doesn't matter if the catcher caught it or not. If it hits the ground at all, it is a dropped third strike. Even if it bounces straight into the catchers mitt, it is still considered a dropped third strike. I umpire also. And I agree it can be difficult to tell if the catcher catches it or not. It then becomes the field umpires responsibility to make that call.
@critter2 I'm saying it did or didn't hit the ground. I said it LOOKS like it did... There is NO POSSIBLE way ANYONE could tell for sure, from this camera angle, whether the ball did or did not hit the ground. It's just not possible. I was just clarifying the rule.
ok i know this doesn't have anything to do with the point of the video but i am now in U16 and let me tell you, i do not miss the teams chears at all!
From the camera angle is is impossible to see if the ball bounced off the ground or not. And yes, the umpire called strike 3 and rang her up, but I never heard anything about batter out. If it were a dropped strike 3 runner is free run.
Looks to me that the ump called 3rd strike, then called the batter out. If the ump felt the catcher dropped the ball, then the call should have only been strike 3. I would have argued the call made by the Home plate ump.
How can you tell? If it WASNT dropped, why did the batter take off as soon as she heard the ump call " Three"?
From a league officer stand point. Parents, dont complain about the time lenght of games when you allow your batters to step out of the box after each and EVERY pitch. This prolong the game by 20 or 30 mins ( or shortens the amount of bats). This ump should not allow this. Encourage them to stay in there and be ready for next pitch.
the coach has there girls take off on ever third strike regardless, and the camera was stationary and I could see from side clearly, ump was behind shortstop and made call.
Did the plate ump ask the field up if it was dropped. Cause I've umped behind the plate and sometimes from the angle it can be hard to see whether the ball was dropped or not.
only after the batter ran to first, which the coach had all his batters run on strike three call, then the home plate blue asked,it cost us the game.home plate ump clearly called strike 3,out.

@rkbeals there are rules that state otherwise, cause the umpire got trick is what happen.

The coach should've asked the plate umpire for an appeal to the field umpire to see if he had a better view of what happened there.
