@aircat29 - actually, this music is taken from Minkus's full, un-cut original score for Petipa's 1871 staging of "Don Quixote" in St. Petersburg. I have the original published edition of the score, and this waltz shows up in the the 3rd act, if memory serves. Minkus wrote quite a splendid opus for the original staging, but the version used by most companies today is derived from Alexander Gorsky's butchered staging of 1902, which the Mariinsky still performs, & they even still use the decor!
ballet even a kitri is more understated and classcal than that. tht was a jazz dancer doing ballet. granted she has technique. but artistically. no thank you. go watch the pro's there is no comparison.
Yes this variation is from Don Quixote. I verificate that the piece is from this ballet because it appeares in the piano score of 1871 St. Petersburg). This is the first of the divertissement dances in Act One entitled as Allegro con fuoco in 3/4 time. There is no signalisation if it was a female solo or a group dance and as for the choreography, who knows? But very nicely dance anyway.
I listened to the whole c d of Don Q and i couldnt find this variations music at all. help please!!!!!
