  • They were judge differently. Iron chef were judge by his dish. But the challeneger were judge base on how he matches the wine, not the overall wine and dish combination, and how it work out. I think since they were lost at the experince of wine matching with dish, they didn't judge correctly.

  • @CEOcutter, I totally disagree with you!

  • when they judging kobe they are already drunk.. LOL

  • holy cow! The green ranger lost o.o

  • Well this is BS. You cannot absolutely deny that this so called "challenger" had a lot of help using his already good-tasting wines. One would say that he had a special ingredient backing him up, and he got away with it because of his title, which is unfair.

The other judge even remarked that what she was eating was not tuna, because of the overwhelming use of wine.

And because Kobe's dishes were tasted last, the judges were already hammered with clouded sense of taste.

  • @ger111, you might want to rethink everything you just said. I mean really think long and hard about what you are saying.

  • The judges are alot more giggly than usual aren't they ;D

  • that sucks...kaga got hammered

  • Kaga looked pissed after giving the verdict. Also Kishi tends to throw a point to the iron chef, especially if the challenger wins 3-1. Only time I've noticed she'll go for the challenger is when they're far superior to the Iron Chef that day .

  • This must have been tough for Kobe to take.

  • I thought at first that the sommelier is handicapped (because he's more of a sommelier/wine steward than a chef), but it seems that the IC is the one handicapped. Good win by the sommelier though.

  • 5:39

  • HAHAHHA KOBE PISSED lol

  • im pretty sure cooked alcohol kills all the alcohol so it would be near impossible to get hammered from wine used in cooking

  • You're right. Alcohol has a very low boiling point. Before heat even exits the temperature danger zone the alcohol begins to dissipate. Of course, as you see in some of Chen and Sakai's battles, the fumes are still extremely flamamble.

  • @Azamat1337 :Yeah, all the alcohol evaporates once you cook it for a while. The reason you add wine in cooking is for the flavor. Some for the fruitiness, or slight hint of whatever barrel/container it was put in (like oak), and so on

  • unless you flame it, a surprising amount remains given the one hour max time constraint. Still not enough to get toasted without busting a gut, but more than you would think =P

  • i think the judges except kishi was biased by the chalenger's title

  • Nah, he obviously spent a lot of time thinking about this match and even about the judge's personalities in order to select perfect matches for wine and food. Kobe was obviously thrown off by the theme ingredient (tuna), which is hardly used in Italian cooking. He looked like he was pretty much flying blind. The challenger deserved the win, title or no title.

  • well...if it is a wine battle you want...i belive there is one that sakai did later down the road...not sure if food network aquired that one tho

  • I certainly didn't call that one. Then again, whenever I try and guess the winner of Iron Chef, I usually turn out to be wrong ^_^

Kobe's pasta/tuna dish was the one that had my mouth watering the most. I'm not much of a wine fan, but I love tuna.

  • the scores show Kishi's bias, and 2 points for that matter

  • i agree, hisownsidekick. Kobe lost because he tried to put his wines-dish combos against the challenger's, who was an absolute master at wines. he's worked at enough places and tasted enough food WITH wine to know just what wines go with what flavors. he pretty much recreated some recipes he'd used from restaurants he's worked at and put those flavors with wines, his specialty. he knew how to please taster's pallets; it's his job. that's why Kobe lost...to everyone saying judges R hammered.

  • This battle was unique in that aspect simply because choosing an accentuating wine can really alter the overall taste of the meal. A good wine pairing turns good food into great food, an advantage of the Challenger.

  • I thought this was an interesting twist. A wine expert with a light background in food vs. a food expert with a light background in wine. The Iron Chefs can complement their dishes with beverages anytime; they just don't most of the time. Kobe didn't have to make it wine and dish vs. wine and dish but he chose to, and lost on that front.

Also, I got tired of comments about how the judges "got hammered." If you think that, what you know about drinking and wine-tasting amounts to bullshit.

  • I don't know if the tuna was the main ingredient, or wine. Seriously, these people seemed to have forgotten what the main ingredient was.... Plus they were probably really hammered XD

  • "...perfect..."

  • "This is not tuna," she says. lol

  • maybe his food actually tastes better you douchebags

  • well I can't image wasting outstanding chu toro like that!!!!!! chu toro itself has great flavor. instead of cooking it, they should serve it raw!!!!!!or sear serving.I know they are not sushi chef, but that doesn't not mean they should only do what they are master in!!!1

  • There's more than one way to eat things.

  • the panel was getting properly shnickered by the end of the first meal, i've never seen them start making lewd jokes before hahaha. cristal and sweet cognac, good choices...

  • Kobe underestimated this guy

  • haha the panel was completely blitzed by the end of the first meal! Kaga included!

  • is it just me or did the girl complain about too much tuna... I thought the main ingredient was supposed to BE tuna

  • lightweights

  • unfair! by the time it was kobe's turn, the judges were all full boozed by the challenger. a glass of wine after every dish! not to mention the smooth talking. or course he'll win!

  • Yeah, at the beginning of Kobe's turn, the lady is already bored of tuna, lol.

  • hey, this player busted out the cristal...what did you expect? of course he was gonna win! kobe looked really pissed at the end...lol...

  • it seemed that wine was a big part in this episode.. -_-

  • Tasaki, you did a great job!

  • I don't really think Kobe is experienced enough. All he seems to do is wrap everything in a fat netting and turn it into a giant sausage. Although I do like his pasta making.

  • lmfao

  • wat episode with mexican style chef vs iron chef kobe

  • i want too see the mango battle with kobe

  • If it's the one with the mexican style chef, you don't wanna watch that, it sucks.

  • I remember the next Kobe match after this. Kaga belittled him for losing to a WINE expert. And something like Kobe needed to win the match to redeem himself and still be considered an Iron Chef.

  • The challengers playing dirty, the wines are not the main part of the dish, the tuna is. All the wines can really overwhelm the judges tastebuds like how the woman said tgat she already tasted to much tuna. I think Kobe knee that was gonna happen, he looked pissed.

  • I agree, his reaction to the loss was just pissed. But I think that what Kishi said was right, he sort of smooth talked them into liking his dishes. If it was the flavor of his dishes or the way he presented them, he still won.

  • Whoa... I wish I could give this more than one thumb down.

  • The challenger did a good job.. I would have LOVED to see Tasaki face Sakai. Hah!

  • I loved this show! When one says they are preparing dishes that they have prepared in the past, it seems to go against the rules by Chairman Caga to prepare "original" dishes. I love to see truly unique dishes loved and by the judges, chocolate tuna, sweet tuna desert... WOW! He deserved the win.

  • That is an interesting point. Contestants do receive points for originality. I've seen the Iron Chefs repeat themselves, in terms of certain aspects of a dish. (Chen used the same chili sauce on shrimp, then lobster, but changed presentation aspects.) It gets hard to avoid sometimes. Sakai had 4 or 5 homard lobster battles, or that is what I think he said in one of his final battles. (21st Century or King of Iron Chef.)

  • A well-deserved win by the challenger! I think I have only seen one episode where Kishi voted for the challenger over the Iron Chef.

  • Awesome! I'm really seeing forward into the next episodes of Iron Chef!

    Thanks again oh great archo89!

  • naaaahhhh!

  • OMG KOBE WAS rOBBED!

  • is there a a posibility that this chalnger win?
