The scary thing is that Mexico have an abundance of Natural Resources. The richest man in the world according to Forbes magazine lives in Mexico(Carlos Slim Helu with $60 billion). They get about $20-40billion in aid from the U.S. and their Natural Resources include precious metals, oil, gold, copper, silver and natural gas. It is the sixth largest producer of oil in the world and yet the country is a cesspool of corruption, violence, drug trafficking, unemplyment and underemployment.

Guess you should take a look at the demographics of Mexico. 60% of Mexicans are Mestizo, 30% Amerindian, 10% White. According to this, I would consider Mexico a Mestizo nation not Amerindian. I would consider an Amerindian nation those countries who have more than half of their population Amerindian (eg., Peru, Bolivia).
Yes, many traditions root from the Pre-Columbian era but, there is also a strong presence of the Spanish traidtions (mixture:mestizo).
