Thank you so much for the tutorial, I'm doing this right now and loving the results. I don't have a dslr, but my camera does have a setting that allows me to achieve this effect. I'm so glad I finally decided to try this out!
@app411 I do but I'm not a 100% RAW PURIST - I shoot JPEG and RAW depending on the situation. I shoot more RAW nowadays because it is better to shoot RAW than not, but still do jpeg whenever. These images were actually shot in RAW even though it shows it in JPEG mode on the LCD when I'm showing the camera settings
@hediedforme89 are you sure there is no bulb mode? might wanna check the instruction manual. it is usually the shutter speed right after the 30" one. You don't need it in this situation anyway, only if you needed to go past 30 seconds.
@sapphirefiredragon to isolate the cd, place it up on a pedestal to provide some separation between the CD and the black background. This way when you use a light from the side the background will be easier to keep dark.
You do a great job in inspiring people to try new things. When doing your vids try not to huff or puff as it can come across as thought you are bored...Keep up the great work, I hope you manage to make some money from your efforts...as it all costs.
You are really inspiring. I think you probably encourage a lot of people to really experiment with photography and not feel restricted by all of the "rules".
@hikinguphigh I own a Canon 60D too. Just set it to bulb and use a remote shutter (wireless or cable) and hold it for as long as you want. The shutter I have has a lock so you can keep it for a long time and don't even need to hold it.
ur a freakin legend....who do you work for?

i have a canon and i'm not sure they have bulb mode? (not well acquainted with manual mode yet) what would be the equivalent?

@hediedforme89 go to manual mode and spin the wheel in front of the shutter to the left. BULB should appear after the 30s setting.

@hediedforme89 I have a canon 550d and it does have bulb mode, right after 30".
