Why do people keep comparing Bear and Les? They are both entertainers, they are both good at surviving in the wild. Both are entertaining... can`t you guys watch something without bitching like little girls.
i fully agree, bear grylls is BS,he is jumping around ,running like a crazy risking breaking his legs is awy from a survival mode when you need to preserve your body temperature! another thing that i don t get is why he need to drink his pee ,when water is right there:in most of the situation are bushes or trees ,and he just need a plastic bag to stuff it with branches leaves wait coule of hours deendind on the temp outside and then pour the water from the botom in something to drink it !

The fact is Bear's show is a hell of a lot more entertaining and he gives good survival tips. Survivorman is just boring.
@Aentho Grylls is very entertaining, which makes the show so fun to watch. There's plenty of dangerous situations he encounters, which he mainly does to show how to overcome them for any potential people in a survival situation. The camera crew around frees him up, making it faster paced not having to mess around positioning cameras. You actually see him traveling, unlike Stroud's filming of him walking and then going back to retrieve the samera. Don't get me wrong though, Stroud is the shit.
@Aentho It's all entertainment. I like to watch both Survivalman, Bear Grylls and Rivermonsters for entertainment and education, but i know it is all staged. If you want to see real survival turn off your computer and your TV and get outside in the wild.

Well ya he had to have safety but he is still all alone until after the shit hits the fan so he still experienced it. like what he did in the kalahari he pushed it to the limit then called it off less than 24 before he would have died. thats a lot better than someone preventing it from happening like bear
@MiniMarioBros Nope. They leave and he has to do everything himself: Filming, getting food, water and everything. The crew only takes him to the place, wish him well and leave to a camp miles away for seven days. This guy is the real deal :)
@NocheeseSherlock There's a camera crew but they are watching him from a distance. He also has a satelite phone and is in contact with his team by radio everyday, at least, that's what he said in an interview. He's got balls anyway.

@74gore Bear's show is supposed to be entertainment and demonstrating survival techniques, not about how tough he is. Bear proved his toughness during his time in the Special Air Service in the British army. There's nothing fake about turning a dead sheep inside out and sleeping in it, or jumping into glacial waters, or rappelling down a cliff face using a single rope and no other climbing gear. I know if I'm ever stranded in the wild, Bear's advice will be used just as much as Survivorman's.
@SwingwenuSwagga Thats exactly the problem with Bear's show. Its designed to show how cool Bear is, and not to give practical survival advice, nor demonstrate it very well. If you are actually lost, are you really going to risk injury propelling down a cliff, or trying to climb down a waterfall? No, because your not an ex-service member like Bear, and its a dumb thing to do. Bear routinely sleeps in hotels during filming, and even has producers catch fish and junk when hunts are not successful.
@Sonnera I was just saying that Bear does very real, very dangerous things as well as set-up scenarios. Les shoots over 7 days. Bear shoots over 10-12 so yes, he does spend some nights in a hotel. Would be cooler if he didn't, but even one night spent trying to sleep in a hole he dug into a snow bank is pretty hardcore imo. He also gives good, practical advice. He shows trap making, water collection techniques and shelter building among other things. If you can't learn from it, that's on you.
@Sonnera Exactly why I like Survivorman and dual survival. How many times do you actually see these guys catch something? unlike bear who ALWAYS comes up with something (for reasons you stated) Les is showing you how it REALLY is in the bush and he gives us good knowledge on survival tips. Bear's show (which I still like) is more flashy and hollywoodesque compared to Survivorman. I enjoy Les with just himself and his cameras because it always feels like you are with him in his survival situation

the only thing is, how would you judge it :P can't very well let them die.... maybe they could make some overall score sheet where they add up all the physical factors with scales of 1-10 after a week or 2 and then average them out... weight loss, overall condition, stamina, etc etc. ......could be interesting but it'll never happen
These sort of survival are only for fugitive or some sort of escapee. Otherwise, if you bring a backpack with you, you should have the necessary tools to survive for some amount of time.

I get tired of man vs wild and survivorman fan boys .. they are both amazing shows and people .. i will say what les does is way more challenging and is true survival .. but bear does show you what to do in certain survival situations .. both are educational but i prefer survivorman
This is ridiculous. Why bring just one match with him? No survival expert would be that badly prepared. On the other hand, if he was trying to simulate a realistic survival situation then he should have brought no matches at all. Also, he mentions the dangers of hypothermia yet stays in his wet clothes for hours after falling into the river. Why?
bear grylls is definately a hard guy but some of the stuff he does seems unreasonable or unnecesarry for a survival situation, espetially the parts where he wants to get naked all the fucking time. Les is more the chilled out dude, and he has no support and is actually giving the survival a go, the right way to do it, without too many risks, or too many crazy ideas.
@superPEA2 Bear drinks his own urine that is all the toxins and stuff in your body coming out and that can make you sick. that's my only problem with Man vs Wild, and also most of his stuff seams set up.

Well ya he had to have safety but he is still all alone until after the shit hits the fan so he still experienced it. like what he did in the kalahari he pushed it to the limit then called it off less than 24 before he would have died. thats a lot better than someone preventing it from happening like bear

@MiniMarioBros Nope. They leave and he has to do everything himself: Filming, getting food, water and everything. The crew only takes him to the place, wish him well and leave to a camp miles away for seven days. This guy is the real deal :)

@NocheeseSherlock There's a camera crew but they are watching him from a distance. He also has a satelite phone and is in contact with his team by radio everyday, at least, that's what he said in an interview. He's got balls anyway.

bear gryls is nothing compare to this. u give him a ham and a chunk of shit, hed choose the chunk of shit and eat it with a frown and making claims about it's high protein. probably everytime they turn the camera off he gets to eat real warm food.
he's been proven a fraud too many times

@74gore Bear's show is supposed to be entertainment and demonstrating survival techniques, not about how tough he is. Bear proved his toughness during his time in the Special Air Service in the British army. There's nothing fake about turning a dead sheep inside out and sleeping in it, or jumping into glacial waters, or rappelling down a cliff face using a single rope and no other climbing gear. I know if I'm ever stranded in the wild, Bear's advice will be used just as much as Survivorman's.

@SwingwenuSwagga Thats exactly the problem with Bear's show. Its designed to show how cool Bear is, and not to give practical survival advice, nor demonstrate it very well. If you are actually lost, are you really going to risk injury propelling down a cliff, or trying to climb down a waterfall? No, because your not an ex-service member like Bear, and its a dumb thing to do. Bear routinely sleeps in hotels during filming, and even has producers catch fish and junk when hunts are not successful.

@Sonnera I was just saying that Bear does very real, very dangerous things as well as set-up scenarios. Les shoots over 7 days. Bear shoots over 10-12 so yes, he does spend some nights in a hotel. Would be cooler if he didn't, but even one night spent trying to sleep in a hole he dug into a snow bank is pretty hardcore imo. He also gives good, practical advice. He shows trap making, water collection techniques and shelter building among other things. If you can't learn from it, that's on you.

@Sonnera Exactly why I like Survivorman and dual survival. How many times do you actually see these guys catch something? unlike bear who ALWAYS comes up with something (for reasons you stated) Les is showing you how it REALLY is in the bush and he gives us good knowledge on survival tips. Bear's show (which I still like) is more flashy and hollywoodesque compared to Survivorman. I enjoy Les with just himself and his cameras because it always feels like you are with him in his survival situation

So much petty drivel typed on here. Bear, Les, Ray Mears, Bush Tucker Man etc all make good shows. It would be nice to get them all together for a last man standing survive off. My money is on Ray, he knows his stuff and you dont get a figure like that from eating cow pats!

the only thing is, how would you judge it :P can't very well let them die.... maybe they could make some overall score sheet where they add up all the physical factors with scales of 1-10 after a week or 2 and then average them out... weight loss, overall condition, stamina, etc etc. ......could be interesting but it'll never happen

These sort of survival are only for fugitive or some sort of escapee. Otherwise, if you bring a backpack with you, you should have the necessary tools to survive for some amount of time.

I get tired of man vs wild and survivorman fan boys .. they are both amazing shows and people .. i will say what les does is way more challenging and is true survival .. but bear does show you what to do in certain survival situations .. both are educational but i prefer survivorman

This is ridiculous. Why bring just one match with him? No survival expert would be that badly prepared. On the other hand, if he was trying to simulate a realistic survival situation then he should have brought no matches at all. Also, he mentions the dangers of hypothermia yet stays in his wet clothes for hours after falling into the river. Why?

bear grylls is definately a hard guy but some of the stuff he does seems unreasonable or unnecesarry for a survival situation, espetially the parts where he wants to get naked all the fucking time. Les is more the chilled out dude, and he has no support and is actually giving the survival a go, the right way to do it, without too many risks, or too many crazy ideas.

@golygoshbatman Urine though contains the things your body is excreting for a reason. As you grow more dehydrated it has less fluid for the concentration of things being excreted. It is not a sustainabe practice. Firstly you need to get over the mental block of acatually doing it too...

Hi All,..Just a tad of (imo) observation on this fisrt video.It seems a bit misleading.(dont get me wrong,i learned a couple things so far,its a very cool so far)To make a fire THAT BIG with just ONE match,is LUCK.your better off traveling with a flint,then a camcorder.If you KNOW your ganna be in the wilderness,be perpared.Maybe hes saying if you only HAD ONE match.its unlikely your ganna get a fire like that with ONE =1 match.you'd get better results with glasses,even.statisticaly speaking.:/
