A soldier does not always fight for his country, it's up to the people who run the country and the electorate who allowed such leaders to have discretion in the first place. Don't need an army? Kosovo, Bosnia- the british army moved in repeatedly 'COS THEY couldn't stop tearing each others throats out.... and before you say we didn't stop anything, learn your facts! The fact is British Forces there, thru military power AND diplomacy together, were able to bring about relative peace after CENTURIES of hatred. Natos army killed more people than it saved. in Yugoslavia "civil war" died less than 11 000 people. Nato killed over 250 000 Serbians and tears the whole Yugoslavia apart. besides, Serbians and albanians business is no ones else business than serbians and albanians. only THEY can solve their problem.
for example if Non americans would meddle in american civil war, the civil war between south and north would never ended. The same thing is with Yugoslavia and all other countries

I would love to know how you came to that figure of 250,000, it is wholly innaccurate... As for NATO tearing Yugoslavia apart, not true. After Tito was removed from power, the different ethnic groupings of ancient states OLDER THAN THE RELATIVELY NEW YUGOSLAV REPUBLIC decided on independence. NATO did not disband the Yugoslav state.
Finally- not getting involved? I'm sure Europe would have been much happier under Nazi rule had no one "meddled". You have a very poor grasp of history.

Britain initially reacted before hitler attacked the uk to come to the aid of a poorer and undefenceable nation- POLAND- using her armed forces... exactly what we did in Kosovo. I think people are actually confused when people say they fight for freedoms and rights.
IF Britain, or ANY country said to the world - We refuse to fight, we refuse to have an army - they would be invaded. Rights and freedoms would almost certainly be stripped from every citizen - the fact of the matter is people are BRUTAL, VICIOUS, mongrels. We are animals after all. they fight for more than resources, they fight for our security, which includes resources, duties include peacekeeping to fighting a foreign foe to helping out when the flood defences fail in the uk.

'Terorrism' has benefited states around the world because it gives them an excuse to oppress their own people and tighten their control of their people. China for example used the guise of terrorism to oppress the the people of Turkestan in 2001 quoting 9/11 as their justification.
