Great break down of the groove. And awesome of you to include the PDF. Really helped break it down. Quality lesson, quality sound and quality video. Can't believe you don't have more views than you do! Thank you
@0eyvind Thanks so much...so glad the lesson helped. I do live lessons weekly from my website (in the video description section) if you're interested. I'm actually giving away a free book this month if you sign up. Really appreciate the kind words! More to come!
cool! I'll try that next time I am able to play drums :D And thanks for giving a reference with the you notes you linked in the description of that video! :D

@egbt4 Thanks so much! And yea, if you listen at 3:32, I say just that and play it like that the whole lesson. There's an open hihat on the e of 2 and the e of 4. There are several variations within the song of the groove, but this is the groove as it is on the drum break. But yes, you're right...there is an open hihat on the e of 2 as I went over in the lesson. Thanks again!
@TheFoxdefrance Tha's another epic groove...I'll see what I can do. If you'll search through the lessons on my page you'll find 3 other James Brown breakdowns...Mother Popcorn, Give It Up Turn It A Loose, and one other. Glad it helps
Thanks so much for this. Been playing this non stop since you put it up and its awesome. You helped so much.
Also i was thinking if you could shed some light on Gadds groove at the end of 'aja'. I think you know which one. Its been a pain for me for a while now.
But thanks for all the lessons they are really helping!
@allmetaliswelcome They're neck and neck, but last time I checked "Funky Drummer" still trumped the "Amen" break. The "Amen" break is most definitely the most sampled in the D&B style.
@DrummerEtc Check out "Public Enemy" a song called "Rebel without a pause".Terminator.X used "Funky drummer" on this song......first time before anyone had.......besides Clyde Stubblefield himself.
@DrummerEtc MY birthday is this sunday (september 18) it would be soo cool if you pls did one for me man, thanks God bless BTW your super good at the drums, you deserve more views!!!!
