Legal definition of religion in Australia: "(a) belief in a supernatural being, thing or principle and (b) acceptance of canons of conduct in order to give effect to that belief".
Sorry, but atheism meets neither of those definitions.

Both Kenneth Miller and Francis Collins are practising Christians who are firm advocates for evolution; and the Big Bang was proposed by Monsignor Georges Lemaître a Catholic, whilst Charles Darwin was also a Christian when he proposed evolution.

Kenneth Miller is a devout Catholic and he was the lead witness for the plaintiff's during the Kitzmiller v Dover Area School District case (as well as other like cases) and is a strong advocate for evolution and against creationism and intelligent design. That is just one example.
