I love Queen's early work and I think that this song and the entire Queen II album is completely underrated, but I'm seriously doubting the capability of them singing the screams and the harmonies in this song that well live without dubbing....
It's hard to believe Freddie wrote this song. This sounds like a song that Brian would write since Brian has always been the one who writes the heavy metal guitar riff songs.
written by Freddie Mercury released on Queen II 1974 this is a great song I have been a fan for a very long time this is one of my favorite albums.if you listen from cover to cover its like a musical journey each song on this album from White Queen side one..and March of the Black Queen side 2 to The Fairy Feller's Masterstroke. this song...and all the great ones in between ..Now I was lucky saw them in concert in '77 and'78 they were brilliant..4 men absolute perfect genius QUEEN
only 64,000 views on this and 11 mil on "killer queen", ogre battle & Queen II is their best stuff, too bad most of their fans dont even know about the first two albums which shows how amazing they really were.
95% of teens these days listen to the same crappy pop over and over again. If you're one of the 5% who still listens to real music, thumb this up, then copy and paste it to all POP Musics you KNOW!. Don't let the spirit of rock and roll die
Incredible version of an incredible song... Queen II is surely the best, and most underappreciated, album Queen ever recorded. The band's chart hits really do belie their true sound, especially those from the Queen II - A Day at the Races era. Some of the most wonderful recordings ever committed to tape.
This is one awesome song off of Q2!! It is truly a kick ass song!! Queen is truly a phenomenal band. A band all their own!! When you first hear them, you are hooked. And Freddie's absolute amazing voice draws you right in and when you see him perform onstage, WOW!! Oh how I miss him. The tears just flow when I remember him. A true loss to this world. R.I.P. Freddie. Forever missed and forever loved!! ♥♥
I remember the Queen II concert in Madison Wisconsin, the first of 4 I saw there with Queen. They weren't even headlining! REO and Foghat played, Foghat headlined.
@GreatQueenFan Yeah, this was made like two decades before the game :D
"The series originator Yasumi Matsuno was inspired by the rock band Queen's second album, which contained two songs titled "Ogre Battle" and "The March Of The Black Queen", to name this game. Even the "Rhyan Sea" in the Ogre Battle world is named after "Seven Seas of Rhye". "
There was also a video game called "Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together" - Yay for Queen references!
@mecetnoca there are version of ogre battle like in hammersmith when you can crearly hear rogger and freddie singing those high parts so i dont thing its pre recorded
@gdsc4 The final audio for the video released from the rainbow is a culmination of 2 nights. So technically it wasn't pre-recorded but was heavily edited.
I still think there's something not right about those back up vocals. The rest of the track sounds like a live recording, but the backing vocals so like they might have been overdubbed later. They sound too perfect to be live. As much as I love this band, the backing vocals rarely sounded this good onstage.
When queen were growing up they were surrounded with many different types and styles of music, probably all from one radio station! Also they were young and impressionable when jimi hendrix, the who, cream, yardbirds, and led zep had came out.Add in they grew up in an era that without imagination, you had nothing coupled with incredible talent and HARD ASS WORK,which seems to have been lost on the younger generation, leads me to think that we will never see another queen.
@fretfirestarter This is EXACTLY what I think. There will never be another band with the magnitude of talent that queen had. The proliferation of technology and the flattening of the world has eliminated imagination and the effort it takes to craft something original and artistic.
@scaramoochscaramooch QUEEN II is truly a genius album. Not only for the brilliantly written songs but also for the production given the studio technology at the time, the end result was a remarkable achievement. You are correct a VERY under-rated album.
princes of the universe, the show must go on, gimme the prize, great king rat and seven seas of rhye are some of my favorite hard rock type queen songs.
Sort of true, but a number of the songs referenced above (Princes, Great King Rat, Seven Seas) were written by Freddie, as was Ogre Battle, of course.
Oh absolutely...Brian was definitely known as their hard rock guy, overall, but then of course he also wrote beautiful ballads like Dear Friends and All Dead, All Dead...that was the beauty of Queen - they were so diverse in their writing; you couldn't pigeonhold any of them to one style of music.
@sue213ful right, but i'm just saying that usually brian was the member who wrote a lot of the really hard rockers. but you're right, freddie wrote this one, and it's easily one of my favourites of all time. regardless, all of the members have several songs that are amazing contributions, which is extremely rare in most bands.
Yeah, jailhouse rock isn't a Queen song. It was originally sung by Elvis, but NOT written by him. I like Queen's version better personally... Freddie made EVERYTHING better! lolz :D
@jabandrade Freddy was one of the very few frontmen in history who could ALWAYS sound just as good as the album live, no matter what. That's why I argue that he is probably the best rock singer of all time.
John was one of the most underrated bass players. And still one of the best! I would form an "underrated" band with him, Les Binks (from Judas Priest) on drums, Tommy Bolin (if he was alive) on guitar, and... hmm... can someone suggest an underrated singer?
